A very peaceful and chill game!
I love the detail in the game, and you can move at your own pace. There's so much to explore and do! It's so relaxing and lets your mind escape!
the storyline is interesting and i love every character. it's hard to pick a favorite. you can romance certain characters and complete quests for rewards. highly recommend to people who enjoy games like stardew valley. similar, but very different!
The game is fun and you can get into sessions where you spent hours in the game without realising. I really like the artstyle since that is one of the main reasons i started playing the game and the vibe of the world of Palia all together. But: ☆After the Royal Highlands update i find it harder to stay in the game longer or i go for some time when i don´t open the game for few weeks as of before when i played almost everyday. For me the Higlands are quite empty and as they introduced the horse as a big horse fan i was excited even more when they said in the trailer they wanted to focus so the horse feels as animal and not a car as it is in most games. But i am kinda dissapointed with the animations of the horses i hoped it would be fixed since i saw a lot of people complaining about it but instead they just keep releasing new variations of mounts. Idk if they are planning to do anything about the animations in the future so this may change but it doesn´t look like it. ☆The prices also recently became quite ridiculous . I understeand that as f2p game they want to make some extra money but it is ridiculous for some of the clothes to cost almost as much as some purchasable games. I myself was planning to maybe spend some money on the game when i strated and saw some of the outfits but tbh it is ridiculous amount to spend on some like i have bought 1 outfit i think but it was on sale for few euros because other than that i don´t think the prices are worth some of the outfits. And tbh i would say there is all together ridiculous amount of microtransactions for game that is for pc kinda feels sometimes from this side as a mobile game that is filled with them. But in the end i would say try it. It can for sure be fun and the story is quite interesting. And you don´t lose anything by trying it since it is a free game.
Palia is everything I want from a cozy fantasy RPG. A beautiful world to explore. Mysterious ruins. Ancient magic. Fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking, crafting, decorating, and enough quests to keep me wandering around for hours because I got distracted six objectives ago. I have a lovely home. A successful garden. Wonderful neighbors. A peaceful little life in a magical village. And, through dedication, persistence, and absolutely no respect for the traditional concept of monogamy, I am also somehow dating every eligible woman within walking distance. At this point I don't have a romance subplot. I have a scheduling problem. I came here to uncover the mysteries of an ancient civilization. Instead I'm tending my crops, rearranging my furniture for the 47th time, and maintaining approximately fourteen simultaneous relationships while everyone in town politely pretends this is normal. 10/10 fantasy RPG. Saving the world can wait. I have girlfriends to visit.
So I say yes for recommending BUT there are conditions. (4 sections ahead) #1 THE BAD: Spaghetti code is the name of the game here - you will be using that unstuck button. You will fall through the landscape at least every third time you log in or decide to embrace the inner druid & tree/rock/fence/house/wall/whatever you are trying to run by hug. You can, at the time of this review, expect to get get booted randomly usually when changing zones or “servers”. I have also had the glorious experience of running about on my head for a day when my character randomly became inverted. I have also routinely experienced my character either becoming camera shy or embracing their inner ninja(invisible) which does make for an interesting time interacting with things. These features also make for some laughs when your friends are running about headless, torsoless, or as featureless blobs. One time I had not head to people, my friend A had no torso(head & legs) & friend B was nothin’ but a pair of legs. Two of us were sharing screens when the situation was witnessed to great amusement by all. NPC’s routinely also follow suit in all of this. I have yet to have someone visit my plot & not have them be located in the ground. You are starin’ straight down & wigglin’ about until you see the “talk” prompt with that one. Check you map often & routinely for their locations. IF you are supposedly standing upon them, look down and wiggle about. & it is quite common/normal to see one swimming along paths or bobbing up and down as they go. Walking backwards, sideways or upon their heads is also quite normal. Items will often pop in and out of existence both in your inventory & on your plot. One seed will work one way for one person & then another for the next. Neither of us know who is glitched in this department. I have a whole set of flowers that once grown, do not give me seeds. My S.O. does not have this problem. But they also have jams routinely disappearing out of their bins so I’ll take my flower glitch over that…. Just sayin’.... In the last two weeks I have experienced a chat glitch where if I tab out at all the chat becomes inaccessible for me until I reload. I hit enter to chat & the game goes from fullscreen to windowed. You hit enter again & it goes back to fullscreen. You cannot access chat via anything other than enter. I must reload to fix this. You can put tickets in for things… do not expect a reply or a fix. - I do not know what is up with this but I know I am not the only one who noticed it. #2 GRIPES: - While the MSQ is technically optional, many things are locked behind it. Which is fine, that is not the gripe. The gripe is the fact that one you start a questline involving ANY of the NPC’s to meet you at a location, then that NPC is now HARDLOCKED into that questline & will appear no where else. You have a side quest to meet someone at a particular location & time? Well that side quest now gets to sit until you’ve finished the other questline because that person it out yonder somewhere wonderin’ where the hell your bum is cause they have now been standing there for a week, are getting cold & want to go home. - A personal opinion on MSQ - I do not feel it is wise to allow the ability to pick up all MSQ quests before the prerequisite main-main MSQ is done. Being able to do a sublime 7 then having the NPC’s of it get locked into an area you actually haven’t reached yet is… problematic.. We’ll say…. - It is time gated. This is not a gripe for me until it hit ranching & I really wanted a specific horse. But all time gating here is like most mobile games. 16hrs is 16hrs real life time. NOT in game time. This applies to everything from gifts to NPC’s to trying to breed that damn perfect coloured horse that I only need one more breed combo to do but it is refusing and my horses are about to become seniors & be unable to breed anymore which means I will have to start over…. *screams into void* - Can’t sell decor items. Once you have them, you have them unless you choose the “trash” option. - Upgradable sell box would be nice. But I do understand why it is a set size. - Has taken the SOT cosmetic theme & doubled the price at least on everything. This is HIGHLY advertised in the cosmetics & some things, like the ability to use chickens as pets (I FINALLY GOT IT!!! Will not confirm nor deny I am enjoying runnin’ about with a pink & brown chicken a little bit too much). Are locked behind a paywall. IF this is the case, I recommend zeki’s club for the patient ones. It is the best deal & just by playing the game or checkin’ in daily you will gain the currency to get what you want. (LIKE A CHICKEN LICENSE!!! - yes… i’m obsessed.. I will never deny this… ) You can spend more, obviously, to get the instant stuff but the best, affordable, route is Zeki’s Club. #3 THE DECENT: - No combat farming game - LITERALLY NO COMBAT & the only “enemies” (lizards that spit slime) hit you with slow. - Play at your pace - ROYALTY of the “OO! Somethin’ shiny!” Garden, go explore, decorate your plot & house, go talk to all the villagers, sit in the middle of town & people watch, sit on your plot & enjoy the music, make loops about the zones on your horse for kicks, gallop down the beaches and back of the newest zone (which is MASSIVE), go achievement chase for plushies or other goodies… *heroic tone* SANDBOX! AWAY!!!! - The Leveling is decently paced &achievable with or without friends. You level up various abilities by going out & using them (mining, foraging, fishing, cooking, gardening, ranching, bug-catching, furniture making & hunting). You want to level it, you can literally just go do it. Podcasts & off ye go! - 1hr = 1 in game day which means there is always something to do with that kind of time turn over.. - In game events - From routine zone ones to seasonal to monthly. Each offer plenty todo if your ADHD happens to be failing you. LOL - People tend to be kind. There is a “gifting” system which is how players help each other gain items. I personally managed to accidentally sell two things I needed for the quest I was doing & someone came to my rescue. There are also always groups going to if you do like the party gig & meeting completely random strangers, this is the game for you. (I play both but am often solo. I like my podcasts too much LOL) #4 THE FABULOUS : THE STORY LINE IS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I won’t spoil it but OMFG is this ♥♥♥♥ addicting. Pay attention to that dialogue though. Both in MSQ & what the villagers say as you get to know them. Cause there are hints everywhere about backgrounds/personal stories & how the lot all ties into the MSQ. I am in the royal highlands at this point(third zone) & am like, where are you going with this? This clearly isn’t ending here… Very much so looking forward to seeing where this goes!!!! I have had others tell me that it’s too short but it’s not a problem for me. Granted, I am also highly invested in all the side quests which is also possibly giving me a larger picture than just the MSQ is. BBBUUUTTTT I still find the MSQ to be epic regardless. So there’s that. This game is exceptionally atmospheric. You can even hear the wind through the trees, the hoofbeats of your horse, ambient bugs & birds as the day progresses, the water splashing in a river, etc. Not to mention the music is fantastic and the art style is adoring. Hopefully the above is informative. I personally continue to play the game though I know many who, with the above, have dropped out. My S.O. was one of them. Simply just kept losing those jams & ultimately the time gating did not work well for them. That & the dev situation. Which I do get. Sometimes I do feel like my time may be limited with Palia but we shall see. For now, I get to continue.
Fun.
It's the first time I try an mmo without a combat/pvp mechanic, and I am really glad I found Palia. The community is great, the story is engaging, the characters are well developed. Gameplay can feel a little stale after catching your 500th fish, but it really compensates with gorgeous environments and interesting lore. A little bugged lately, but they're working on it. I loathe the mount movements with all my heart. Can be played as a singleplayer adventure without having to interact with other players, and that's a plus.
