As of the latest update they have introduced Paid Storage. So i am officially telling other people this game is now P2W despite promises they would never lock game functionality behind a paywall. This is given players who pay up to 100k extra storage space compared to only 18k free storage you get through regular gameplay. I can no longer endorse or recommend this game in good faith as now the writing is on the wall it will only get worse from here.
Enjoyed this game a lot and spent a lot of money between me and my wife's account. But charging for storage upgrades is absurd. The entirety of this game is based on grinding for hours so that your work is rewarded. Trapping storage expansion behind an expensive paywall when it never has is crazy. Very disappointed. Not very cozy.

1,517 hours. Every achievement. At this point, I’m not sure I played Palia so much as I accidentally moved there and established residency. I started out thinking, “Oh, this looks relaxing. I’ll gather some stuff, build a cute little house, maybe do a little fishing.” That was adorable. Fast-forward an unreasonable portion of my life and I’m farming, hunting, fishing, mining, cooking, decorating, collecting, completing quests, chasing achievements, meeting new people, and apparently developing strong opinions about virtual furniture. This game is addicting as all get out, and I regret almost nothing. There is ALWAYS something to do. Finish a quest and three more things catch your attention. Go mining and suddenly you’re hunting. Go hunting and somehow you’re gathering ingredients. Decide you’re finally going to decorate the house and four hours later you’re standing outside wondering why you originally left home in the first place. There are villagers to know, friendships and relationships to develop, collections to complete, events to chase, things to discover, and actual friends to meet along the way. Palia somehow makes doing chores feel recreational, which frankly sounds like witchcraft. And yes, I spent real money here. Cosmetics, DLC, assorted shiny things I absolutely could have lived without — and I'd do it again. After 1,517 hours, Palia could probably invoice me for back rent and I'd have difficulty arguing the charge. I got my money's worth many, many times over. More importantly, I had fun. A ridiculous amount of it. There were relaxing nights, obsessive “just one more thing” nights, laughs with other players, discoveries, accomplishments, and those wonderfully stupid moments where you log in intending to play for twenty minutes and suddenly it's tomorrow. Eventually, though, even a game you genuinely love reaches the point where you've climbed the mountains you wanted to climb. I've done everything I came here to do, earned every achievement, and have a frankly incriminating Steam playtime to prove it. Palia has been cozy, addictive, occasionally ridiculous, and genuinely special. I can recommend it without hesitation. Now it's finally time for me to put down the tools, step away from my little corner of Kilima, and find the next adventure. Thanks for 1,517 hours, Palia. I'll miss you. A Palia haiku: One last lantern glows Thank you for all the joy I leave, loving you
( -1 PvP )
I have played Palia for years, and have put a lot of money into this game. I have bought every supporter pack, many of the outfits, tool skins, plots skins, etc.. I also gift the mystery outfits fairly often. While I always believed the game cosmetics to be a little over priced I was ok with it, since it was a free game with a small team and the devs gotta eat too. But recently they started to paywall game items like plushies and skins for in game furniture, such as mailboxes. I wasn't ok with that but none of these things were needed or important to game play so I spoke my mind about it not being ok but carried on. Today though they have now introduced paid storage. This is so upsetting as this was something they were vocally against in the early days of the game. As it is now, most would find the amount of storage as low, and they plan on introducing more "adventure zones" or worlds with more items. Its a slipper slope that will only lead to this game becoming pay to win. So I hope the money you get from the storage is worth it because I for one will never spend another cent on this game unless this is changed.
I cannot recommend this game. I've been waiting for years now for the game to become actually stable to play. Instead, it's new outfits that cost increasingly more money without fixing basic infrastructure. Long loading times, my character randomly falling through the ground for friends and many random things just not working ruins it for me. AND THEN, now they're making people PAY irl money for storage. I don't care if it's optional, giving people access too gameplay things that others don't unless they pay is not ok. I have a firm line where I don't allow any pay to win things, and while "win" isn't really the thing, it's definitely paying to get ahead. ALSO, having to shoot a disabled raccoon is ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
I understand this game is free but the in-game purchase are absolutely ludicrous, like shocking (and that's coming from someone who has 1000hrs on VALORANT, infamously overpriced). I'd be more inclined to spend more money on the game if you got more bang for your buck. I don't know about other players but I'm 10x more likely to make purchases if its in smaller increments. $20 real world dollars for a mount license is criminal. The premium lunar paths are even MORE insane. If I wanted to buy the available lunar paths right now, I'd have to forgo buying groceries for at least a week. I love this game and wish I COULD support it more financially but I'd rather have paid $20 for the base game and then less for extras.
I played a lot on this game. 660h+. One of my most played games, actually, right after Warframe (5000h). I used to love it, enjoy it. And I spent money on cosmetics, even founder and supporter packs and some Paths. I brought friends in, I made new friends, helped new players, completed all the available quests up to the Royal Highlands. Was completing all the Bundles, finishing the Paths, explored every nooks and crannies and hidden spots. Streamed it. I really loved that game. But I cannot support the path the game and the company are choosing to take anymore. The game used to be fair, fun and cozy. The cosmetics, while overpriced, were the only micro transactions for a long while. Easy to ignore. But then came the Paths - seriously overpriced Battle passes. Then the pets sending stuffs from your pockets to you house inventory. Then Farm animals and mounts hidden behind paywalls. And now, finally, storage extension you have to pay for. This stopped to a free to play to become a PayToWin. It's no longer fair, fun, and cozy. It's competitive. It's predatory. Especially on a game whose aesthetics appeal to younger audiences. And if the monetization was the only problem... No. The game is not maintained. There are updates, regular ones, yes. But they are always to introduce new paid content. Fixing the very numerous, annoying and fairly often game breaking bugs and even crashes IS NOT their priority. The assistance doesn't even answers requests and signals anymore. And the community? For most of the time, you can meet nice, normal people and have normal interactions and conversations. But then you can also meet aggressive and competitive players. IN A COZY GAME. You can ignore them, block them. But that still affects your experience of the day. Worse than that... you can meet the creeps. Same thing, you can ignore them and block them. But signaling them will do strictly nothing. The chat is not safe. Singularity 6, and the companies that own them, have broken every promise they have made over the years since getting the game out. It is disappointing. And at this point, 2 years after release, and after all the layoffs the game has seen, the game being in Beta is no excuse anymore. And on socials? Discord, Reddit, Instagram? Negative, constructive critics get censored, erased, or ganged upon by mods or die hard and sometimes straight up aggressive defenders. Critics are not accepted. I loved this game, truly. But I cannot, in good conscience, recommend it anymore.
I loved this game as a great way to just relax and lose myself in a calming world. And up until this recent update, I was able to do that quite well. But the entire time I've been playing there's been the same bugs present, and the only response you get from the devs is "We're investigating," and nothing gets fixed. But as a person who plays Bethesda games, I can live with that. What I can't live with is violating a promise that originally is what got me into the game. They promised that they'd never monetize gameplay functionality, but now if you want to max out your storage it'll take cost you nearly $100 real world money. I can no longer in good conscious recommend this game. TL;DR, bugs from when I first started still exist, monetization has become extremely predatory, and developer 'gifts' for events are extremely lackluster.
