I was really looking forward to this game but was disappointed with this release. It's still got the incredibly satisfying telekenesis mechanics and the very natural and intuitive dash mechanics however the cons far outweigh the positives. * There is very little extra content from the original demo. It is 1 arena with the occasional added cave to find weapons and then the big sentinel boss, defeat him and its back to main menu to repeat. * It's far too easy. * The dash although fun is just overpowered and basically makes climbing pointless. My main issue is the lack of content, I effectively completed the game 30mins, I have little reason to return due to the lack of difficulty or change in scenery/weapons. It's becoming increasingly more evident that JoyWay need to focus on quality rather than quantity as they are churning out games but these games are too close to the incomplete expectations of VR games 3 years ago.
At the time of writing this review i only have roughly 2hrs worth of gameplay. In its current state, Outlier has a lot of bugs to bang out, but the game is a lot of fun to play. The guns are a lot of fun to use, especially dual wielding them. I'm not a fan of the telekinesis, though i likely just have to practice more and find the right point to release the objects. The ability stones are okay, but some can be lack-luster. The enemies definitely don't make it easy for you, which is a fun challenge. There's only one boss, though the layout changes are okay. The controls can be rough to get used to, namely the dash (as you have to hold a button and swing your arm). The dash doesn't seem practical at first, with having to swing your arm to dash, but it helps for directional control mid-fight. After my first clear i had about 3 runs where no enemies spawned and i got stuck in places waiting for gates to open (as i should have been fighting enemies while waiting for them to open), but the gates eventually opened. All in all, Outlier is a fun game. I can easily recommend it, but if you find yourself getting upset easily at frequent bugs or things "breaking" then i would definitely wait on this game to see if it develops further. If you don't get upset so easily at bugs or things "breaking" in games, but you like roguelikes with a bit of a challenge, then this game is definitely your bag.

All it needs is a little more time in the oven and a banger of an OST when fighting. edit: nevermind they canceled development, its caca
it is a fun game to play but the content is just not there. - there are 5 types of enemies and 1 boss - there are 5 types of enemies guns (4 guns and 1 bow) and 3 types of magic - the upgrades don't actually effect the game play they just add a multiplier to a number. - you can complete a run in less then 10 minutes and still defeat the boss. - the inter run upgrades are almost useless considering that they make the game easier when the game is already very easy for reference if you've seen the first video on their store page you've seen the entire game with all enemies and weapons
👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑

Follow Main group
Follow Second group
English: ----------------------------------------> Outlier by Joy Way, who you might know from Against and Stride, have now released a fast-paced roguelite shooter. In Outlier we can jump, climb, throw anything we have at hand, and of course shoot! And that's exactly what we should do if we don't want to get eaten by the different enemies. At the beginning, the game prepares us in a small tutorial in which the basic movements are explained to us. At the end of the tutorial we find ourselves in the main game room, where we can start playing or test our weapons in one of the other rooms. In the main game, which does have a story, it is all about surviving as long as possible. So it's jumping, running, climbing, shooting, throwing objects and so on. If we are killed, it starts all over again. Our brain is simply put into the next body printer and we continue. In the game we find steles with weapons or other things, but we can only choose one at a time. But there are enough of these steles on the procedurally created maps. Besides the weapons, there are power-ups that we can even combine. Graphically, Outlier is unfortunately not as beautiful as the trailer suggested at the time. Due to questification again, of course. It is rather low-poly and poorly detailed for a PCVR game. There is of course no finger tracking. However, Outlier offers good physics although the collision detection is sometimes a bit strange. Climbing works well via the grip key, only the dash function, which is relatively essential for the game, sometimes hangs. Throwing, or telekinesis, works well. The sound is just okay, but the English voice-over is easy to understand. There is an audio and video section in the settings, but unfortunately I couldn't open the options. For those who like roguelite, Outlier is certainly quite an entertaining game in which you can let off steam for a while with different enemies, even if it does get repetitive, but that's the genre.... it's certainly not a standout title. 👀More replays on my curator page. 👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑

Follow Main group
Follow Second group
PROS: -The movement and telekinesis are fun CONS: -There is SOOO much jank with EVERYTHING, including with the movement and telekinesis -game runs like garbage, even on my rtx 2080 and i7 8700k. unplayable when more than a few enemies exist -the map collision is terrible with massive random invisible geometry nowhere near the actual walls, and even blocking the item shops INSIDE THE INVISIBLE WALL WHERE YOU CAN'T GET TO IT. This game is barely worth $10. I received it as a gift and still requested a refund for my friend.
Meh, wish I could recommend it, but personally don't find it great. Just the average bullet spam rougelike vr game. It's "dash" mechanic is nice, but it's tied to how fast you move your hand so it's hard to dash and shoot. They have a Video and Audio tab in the settings, but you can't click it so eh. Way to much makes your controllers vibrate with no way to turn it off. Hand over where you can grab weapon? Vibrate. Hand colliding with wall? Vibrate. In the games menu? Vibrate. Probably more as well but I didn't play much. First time launching it the tutorial glitched and no enemies spawned, including the boss that's meant to kill you. used the menu to go back to the "hub" and got stuck in the upgrade tutorial as it wanted me to buy an upgrade to progress but I got no points because there was nothing to kill. Luckily restarting the game reset me back to the beginning at the time. There is also plenty of small geometry that you will get stuck on, including tiny steps that for some reason you can't walk over while you can bigger ones. Guns and abilities seem nice, but nothing amazing. They have an option in the settings tab you can see that lets you change between hold to hold and toggle hold. Though toggle hold also affects the bow so you have to grab the arrow twice basically to fire it. Toggle hold doesn't affect the telekinesis though. Don't know about the other weapons/abilities as the only thing I unlocked was the basic telekinesis, basic pistol, and the bow before refunding. Other than that, again, it's just an average bland rougelike vr bullet spam game. Hopefully it turns out better before it's fully released but who knows with how these games go.
Character movement is too fast and odd, you'll definitely get motion sick from this but that doesn't even matter because chances are you wont even to play any real amount of the game. I was barely into the tutorial when the game bugged and a boss that was supposed to kill the player spawned dead, then when i went to the menu to bypass it, it told me to upgrade my character. I did but the game didn't acknowledge it and i couldn't progress anymore into the game. Didn't even get to play a single level before i was locked by a game breaking bug. 0/10 dont bother
great concept, terrible execution
At the time of this review Oculus Quest 2 through the Oculus Rift still has some major issues, such as height adjustments (to the point where I became a GIANT) and just generally bad handling. But aside from that, the game as it is is just not much fun. The gunplay feels slow and awkward, the movement, especially the leaping, is awkward and often just plain broken. The leap by bashing both controllers down hard (sort of... vaulting) sounds fun in theory, but it's just annoying after 10-20 minutes of play. There is no coherent or intelligent story to speak of, basically "something happened, go down to planet and shut down something, oh weird, there are aliens." There might be more here that I didn't explore yet, but if a game can't draw you in in the first 2 hours, be it with story or gameplay, you refund it in case you wasted some good money. That said, the price is a-okay. I personally couldn't fill 2 hours because it glitched me into being a giant, ten times as big as the portal, all the menus were tiny and unusable. I got annoyed and refunded after already being annoyed by the gameplay.
