About

Ôpe is a 3D platforming game in which you play as a little hero named Bô. His quest will lead him through enchanted forest and temples where he’ll need to deliver shamans from corruption before the sun sets forever.

This game has 10 playable levels in which you’ll discover forest and temple environments. Forets are more 3D-platforming-oriented and the temples are puzzle-oriented.
Throughout the adventure, you’ll learn many skills to help you during your quest such as dashing through walls, push rocks, double-jump and even transform your character in a little sphere to access new opportunities.
This original title was developed in 15 weeks by the class of 2018-2019 of Campus ADN, a public video game college in downtown Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The students worked in two teams to make the games Blank and Ôpe. Each game was created by about 30 students in total from Animation, Level Design and Modeling programs during their third semester under the supervision of professionals from the industry.
KOSTENLOS
If it IS broken, don't fix it This would be the title of my Review, if a Title could be add. Im very conflicted and I'll try to explain why. Im at level 5, just one hour played, so this is just an early impression but all in all as feedback I can say the game is charming, with some glitch or fix that SHOULD be done, but i would totally recommend to NOT do it. Aside from the Bear shaman just getting stuck walkin in position (but it was no problem, the power got unlocked after we talked so i could move the rocks by my owns) I had no major problem. The only issue i have with the game is half of the time i've outsmarted with a good jump on edges with no purple slime and jumped over entire sections of levels (most of time it was not on purpose! I realized then it was not the intended path). Is this bad? No. Absolutely not! I'll be rudely clear... i love the main screen with the book and the rusty rexture of the page that brings back PS1 memory of games like "Tigger's Honey Hunt". But aside from that what I saw til now didn't made me enthusiastic. I kept playing after Level 3 thiking "at least I'll finish the Demo before leaving an opinion"... and i continue, and continued... til i realized and checked "Oh snap! This ain't a demo! This a is a FULL free game". So i stopped and collected my thought. I can't lie. Im not a fan of it atm. It looks like your classical "ruin temple" levele aesthetic but over and over and over and over. The puzzles are not great brain teaser at this stage and looks more like a convoluted way to make you navigate slowly the level with a character that can't do very much. Kinda stale. BUT... the Dash comes aboard... and with its.... the little unpolished structure of the level you can exploit.... and that is the thing that got fun to me. The possibility to not play the level strictly the way it's intended. The chance of speedrunning it. And im NOT a speedrunner. Im sure skileld level that would study it to do it on purpose would be jawdrrapping. So all things considered the game at this stage is truely recommended. If you're really young (or have kids that are kinda new to videogame in general) this is a charming, simple, intuitive, nice game that is challenging enough for a new-comer. It is a game that has 5+ would work greatly! But if you GREW on platforms the games end up loosing of charm: but i can't blame it! Would you be amazed to play Tigger Honey Hunt today? One of those PS1 games that maybe took you a month when you were 6, and today it took 3 hours total?? I doubt! You would take it for what it is: a platform for young audience where you're not the target demographic. This game to me is (at least for these 5 levels, I promise i'll continue it and leave a complete review in case) PERFECT for kids. And it's RARE on Steam to see something for an extremly young audience. So PARENTS out there... it's free, make yourself a favour and let your kids try it. On the other hand... the most hardcore player may find some fun exploiting the heck out of it cause there are some surface you shouldn't logically reach so fast... and i would recommend the dev to leave it like that. It gives something funny to do even to an older audience.
Simple, fun and enjoyable. Can be a little rough with some clunky controls but the game has really nice graphics and is free.
Quite enjoyable, despite the clunky controls and lugging at times. Nice graphics, ambient and story. Free game
"Ope" is a student project self-published on Steam Direct. It's from Campus ADN in Quebec. Student projects might look better than amateur shovelware, but they aren't real games. This is just a glorified homework assignment. It lacks the depth and value you get from professionally developed product because it was made for a grade, not for players. Schools, colleges and universities shouldn't be using Steam to show off student projects. It might be fine for the school's marketing, but it clutters the Steam store with pollution... we have to sort past all these short student tech demos just so we can find real, full games from professional developers. This is a case of a game dev college putting its own interests before the interests of gamers. The students made a reasonable looking (but totally janky) Sonic 3D clone where you control a little... thing... that can do 3D platforming and spin around in a ball for whatever reason. Again, heck, a free Sonic clone, if well made, might be quite popular on Steam, but once more we have a student project that's incomplete, abandoned and unmaintained because the students got their grades and walked away. And make no mistake, this is a bug riddled janky mess with locked controls (so you can't even adjust or try to fix the control screwup through the settings)... as usual, a student project just teased us with a game that might have been but never will be. Why is this good for gamers? The graphics in this game are really quite good, which at least makes the game look more appealing. And while it's vital for any game to have impressive visuals (gaming is a visual medium, after all), there's more to a game than just the graphics. To be worth a gamers time, the game must match top tier visuals with top tier gameplay, and that's not happening here. Insultingly, the developer insists that you should play this with a console peasant children's toy gamepad instead of KB+M. You cannot play this without a console peasant children's toy. Developers should try to be aware which platform they're designing games for. It's the responsibility of the developer to ensure the game runs well on the platform they're selling it on, with the primary peripherals that PC gamers use. This game is fairly dated at 7 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. It would be unethical for students to try charge money for their homework assignments, so you don't have to pay any money for this. But you'd still have to spend your time downloading this, and "time is money", as they say. There's the other problem, too... as a student project, this wasn't made for gamers. There's no requirement for them to polish and balance the game properly, all they need is something to show the faculty so they can get their grade and move on. Let's once more ask... why is that good for gamers? It's obviously not delivering a solid product. Yet here it is, on the store page, and here you are, reading my review for a student demo that's going to waste your time. While genuine amateur developers who made real products get ignored because they have to compete with this stuff. In some ways, this deluge of student projects on Steam is harmful to everyone. In terms of public reception, the "free" price tag didn't help. This peaked at a handful of players and then immediately cratered. With a peak count of less than 50 gamers (out of over 130 million gamers and over 40 million daily logons), it’s safe to say the PC gaming community has collectively decided to ignore this, probably because of the reasons supplied in this review. Given that this free student project won't count toward your game collection or add any achievements, and because it's not really a full game and more of a homework assignment, it's not a worthwhile download.
