Ok where do I even begin with this one. Ok the story was very good altough I did predict the story at the beginning of chapter 2. This does not change the fact that this is a very unique and fun game. gameplay: good difficulty: easy/medium fun scale: 10/10 soundtracks: very good and fitting for story\ price: cheap (I got it with a coupon, so it was a steal for me) Oh yeah in the last chapter there are actual movies playing, you might find yourself standing still and staring at the movie instead of playing the game, but I will let this go as a good thing. So, do I recommend this game? The short answer is yes, if you are into puzzle games I'd say this is a must have, but even if your not into puzzle games this is still a fun game to play and experience. And you don't have to worry about getting stuck because the game provides you with tips.
Oneiros, developed and published by Coal Valley Games, is a surreal first-person adventure that unfolds like a lucid dream caught between waking life and subconscious turmoil. The game follows Liam, a young man who wakes up to find himself trapped inside his own mind, surrounded by distorted memories, impossible architecture, and objects that seem to possess a life of their own. What begins as a simple escape-room scenario soon evolves into a psychological journey that fuses puzzles, platforming, and narrative exploration within an ever-shifting dreamscape. It’s a game that thrives on atmosphere and imagination rather than scale, and though it occasionally stumbles in execution, its ambition and strangeness make it one of the more memorable indie experiments in recent years. Visually, Oneiros is a kaleidoscope of contrasting spaces and moods. Its environments shift seamlessly from the ordinary to the extraordinary—an unassuming apartment can twist into a hallway suspended in the sky or crumble into an abstract landscape of floating geometry and glowing symbols. Coal Valley Games makes impressive use of lighting, color, and environmental transitions to blur the line between reality and illusion. Every location feels unstable, as though it might dissolve into something entirely new at any moment, capturing the fluidity and disorientation of dreams. Despite being built on a modest budget, the game’s art direction is striking and expressive. Its surreal distortions, flickering lights, and shifting textures all work together to keep the player slightly off-balance, evoking a sense of wonder mixed with unease that permeates every scene. The gameplay combines elements of exploration, environmental puzzles, and occasional light platforming. At its core, Oneiros is about observation—understanding how objects and clues interact within each environment and using them to progress deeper into Liam’s subconscious. Early segments feel reminiscent of traditional escape-room puzzles, where you collect items, decipher codes, and solve logic-based problems to open doors or activate machines. As the game advances, the mechanics grow stranger: gravity may shift without warning, rooms can rotate, and physical laws bend to the rhythm of the narrative. The design encourages experimentation, and while most puzzles rely on straightforward logic, there are moments where dream logic takes over, forcing players to think laterally rather than literally. Occasionally, this unpredictability can frustrate, particularly when hints are subtle or when platforming sections introduce unnecessary precision challenges. Still, the variety of tasks—from constructing mechanisms to exploring surreal landscapes—keeps the experience engaging, and the pacing ensures that puzzles never overstay their welcome. Narratively, Oneiros presents itself as an intimate exploration of identity and memory, with Liam serving as both the subject and the observer of his own fractured psyche. Through scattered documents, voiceovers, and environmental storytelling, fragments of his past begin to surface: regrets, personal failures, and moments of emotional vulnerability that give the dream world its shape. The game touches on themes of guilt, depression, and self-discovery without resorting to heavy-handed exposition. Instead, its story is communicated through suggestion and symbolism, leaving much for the player to interpret. At times, the tone shifts dramatically—from melancholy introspection to absurd humor, embodied by odd characters and talking creatures that break the tension with surreal banter. While this tonal inconsistency can be jarring, it contributes to the game’s dreamlike unpredictability, where emotional logic often supersedes narrative coherence. The ending, abrupt and ambiguous, reinforces that ambiguity, closing the story on a note of reflection rather than resolution. Sound design plays an essential role in anchoring the experience. The soundtrack blends ambient drones, gentle acoustic tracks, and occasional bursts of indie music that heighten emotional moments. Several scenes are scored with songs from alternative bands that evoke both nostalgia and melancholy, creating an audio landscape that mirrors the emotional volatility of the visuals. Environmental sounds—echoing footsteps, mechanical hums, the faint rustle of unseen movement—deepen immersion, giving each space its own rhythm. Voice acting, on the other hand, is inconsistent. Liam’s delivery alternates between casual humor and detachment, which sometimes diminishes the gravity of the story. While the writing itself contains flashes of sincerity and introspection, the dialogue can occasionally feel stiff or awkward, pulling the player out of the otherwise strong atmosphere. In its pacing and structure, Oneiros strikes a careful balance between brevity and density. The entire journey can be completed in a few hours, but within that short span, it manages to introduce a surprising range of mechanics, environments, and ideas. It never lingers too long on one motif before transforming into another, maintaining a sense of progression that mirrors the flow of a dream. While some technical issues and minor visual glitches break the illusion at times, they are easily forgiven in light of the game’s ambition. The developer’s attention to visual experimentation and thematic cohesion clearly outweighs its limited production scale, making Oneiros a small but passionate work of surreal creativity. Ultimately, Oneiros stands as a thoughtful, strange, and often beautiful indie experience. It invites players to lose themselves in its fractured logic and to interpret meaning from its layers of symbolism and abstraction. Though it doesn’t deliver a tightly woven narrative or polished gameplay throughout, it excels at mood, imagination, and emotional resonance. For those who appreciate atmospheric puzzles, surrealist storytelling, and introspective journeys through the mind, Oneiros offers a memorable glimpse into the subconscious—a place where beauty and confusion intertwine, and where every answer feels just slightly out of reach, as all dreams do. Потрясающая игра. Сперва скептически относился, когда покупал по маленькой цене, но игра стоит куда больше своих денег. Рекомендую. Пройдена на 100%.

For its price, this game is great fun for fans of scripted puzzle games. Short but well done.
Promising a "psychedelic" cool puzzle game experience, and delivering only a wonky, bland linear game with no real challenge. Voice acting is terrible, same with the forced humour. Aesthetic is kinda pleasing, but overall a disappoinment.
Відгук написано: 05.04.2026 Михайло Punkel Кенебас ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬Thank you for your attention. That was a beautiful game, really nice puzzles and touching story. I really enjoyed the artwork style which was different than the usual. Music adds much to the feel. Recommended!
Nada del otro mundo.
