About
Once Upon a Galaxy is a fast-paced, free-to-play card battler of cosmic proportions. Captain a crew of characters from myth and fairytale lore into battle across a spectacular galaxy in search of allies, spells, and treasures to ensure your ultimate victory!

Begin each game by selecting a Captain with its own unique effect.
Will you choose Dorothy to help complete her friends’ quests? Or Dragonmother to discover what hatches from her Mysterious Egg? Play as Indiana Clones to "clone" your best three treasures, or lead a troupe of toys as Geppetto!

More captains are released each month, so there’s always something new to try!

Galaxy features an eclectic cast to help you on your journey. Recruit characters and cast spells each round to prepare for your next challenge. Carefully position your cards while planning your turn—then enjoy their auto-battle against other captains and crews!

Upgrade your crew throughout the game. Character-copies give bonuses and discover powerful treasures. Enhance your board directly to keep buffs as you replace characters. The most powerful cards appear later in the game—find a Legendary crew to help make you the last captain standing!

You can capably lead any odd character, but your most powerful crews will come from smartly-selected synergies. Combine treasure effects with characters’ abilities for powerful outcomes. Leverage powerful character factions, each with their own focus, such as treasure-loving Dragons, spell-enhanced Mages, or Toys which summon additional characters during the fight!

In addition to the common pool of cards you encounter each game, each captain commands its own list of collectible elite characters to customize your plans. Select 12 cards before the game—they’ll be mixed into your card pool to potentially draw!

No timers, no pressure. Galaxy's matchmaking and async-multiplayer mean you can battle fun-but-challenging opponents whenever you want. Face real boards from other human players’ earlier games. Your finished run will join the opponent pool for others to challenge. It's fast, strategic, and endlessly fun!
When you're ready to crank up the intensity, you can play with friends in 6-player live lobbies... warning: live lobbies are the ultimate competitive experience!

While our Steam build is great for the desktop experience, Galaxy is also available on your phone or tablet! With a cross-platform account, you can sync your progress no matter which device you use and so can explore Galaxy on-the-go!

Once Upon a Galaxy is created by Million Dreams Games, an indie studio boasting a talented team. Our leads have worked on iconic games like Magic: The Gathering, Hearthstone, and Runeterra. We’re diehard fans of the card and auto-battler genres.
We believe in building a fully-functional free-to-play experience. We partner with wonderful artists to bring our vision to life (no AI artwork is used in Galaxy).
If you love our game too (we think you will!) and want to support us, you can boost your collection rewards or style your favorite cards with alternate-art skins. A monthly Galaxy Pass offers both!

Give Galaxy a try and experience the thrill of this groundbreaking card battler.
Sums Steam + Google Play only; App Store publishes no volume signal, so the true total is higher by an unknown amount.

Another excellent f2p game ruined by monetization that crosses the very clearly defined "P2W" line. Don't waste your money supporting devs that are clearly signaling they prefer a quick buck over long term game health and audience relationships.
best auto battler on steam. great monetization model, everything is free. new heroes will be locked for a month or two but eventually get rolled out free of cost
Once Upon a Galaxy's a fun autobattler that comes from people with prior experience with them, and it looks pretty good! (and is morally good with the art credits and all; there's great art that doesn't look uncanny!) The balance right now is a little strange, but you can definitely just win with anybody; there's really strong moves you can do without a captain power, so thinking about how a new card can synergize with a captain is pretty fun as a thought exercise, and sometimes even more fun in practice. Also, Top 3 is where the rewards start, so that's pretty generous... There are unfortunately a few hitches at the moment. For one, card acquisition is a little strange, to the point where you sometimes get more after surrendering to a specific board lategame since the other person just didn't run any characters on boards that could be unlocks for any number of reasons! (Secret rares on opposing boards really should make another unlock happen; you're so incentivized to keep them!) Related to that, Boons have made games go up to a crazy fever pitch in record times; there's sometimes a Legendary on Turn 5 or so, and that sometimes *really* cramps you in particular up due to the nature of asynchronous lobbies. Despite all of that, there's a lot of fun just booting up to a Galaxy, playing into a specific style, and just jamming a few games out. It's great, you don't have to spend any money if you don't want to, but doing so does support the fine people that made the game. It sounds like a good enough deal, every once in a while! And balance patches happen at least on a bimonthly basis, so these balance issues will eventually just become less of a problem. Which is great.

I play this on mobile a lot so my hours aren't huge on here right now. The people who leave negative reviews about the balance and monetization are insane. this game is SO good and i've gone out of my way to pick the early captains and still place top 3 consistently with them. The loud minority who complain are just weird entitled people who feel like they ought to have every single card in the game just given to them. Pros: •Very unique drafting card battler with async multiplayer, you've probably never played something quite like this •It's free to play •Hundreds and hundreds of hours worth of content. Expect to see new captains and new cards 50 hours in as of Aug 2026 •Addictive gameplay loop where you're almost entirely focused purly on the drafting and deckbuilding aspect •It's a game by a small group of guys who seem to love what they do so there's no investors or whatever calling shots and making the game lame •The game is balanced in a way so that you can consistently win with any captain. I've found this to be true regardless of what some loud complainers may say Neutral: •Card art may be very appealing to you, as it is with me, or very unappealing. I've had friends comment that they hate the way this game looks. •You may either absolutely love the huge variety of cards and captains the devs give you or if you suffer huge from the Fear Of Missing Out mindset it could drive you crazy cause you're probably not going to collect everything Cons: •There's only 2 songs. they're fine songs but the game either needs more neutral background music that you can hear for hours and hours on end or just more songs •Performance is worse than you would expect for a card game made up of what appear to be 2d assets •There are microtransactions, I feel they are completely reasonable microtransactions and I know they have to monetize a game like this that is a live service in a way that creates a steady cashflow rather than just game sales up front. However i'm old school and so I do still count microtransactions as a negative. I hope some day somebody figures out a good alternative to free to play with micro transactions for games like this.
I don't understand the hate. A free to play game that you can pick up and play a few games. I find the matches fast and fun.
To highroll for my taste, it was good at the start but they kept adding more pay to win and more high roll captains that makes it not fun anymore.
Game has gotten buggy in the last week or two, causing major lag on my whole system.
Typical asymetrical ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, opponents will be several turns ahead of you, have units with impossible stats out of nowhere and the "rng" will play out exactly how it needs to to screw you over no matter how specific that has to be it happens and not randomly, on the regular, its disgusting and don't get me started about the complete lack of game balance and sheer amount of cards that should never have been released the way they are and never get nerfed.
Juat a good game, also a great community
I love the themes but don't like that it's a card game, we call these "menu games" where i'm from Starting a new review theme called "Is It A Menu Game?" and yes, this one is a menu game
