About
Once Upon a Galaxy is a fast-paced, free-to-play card battler of cosmic proportions. Captain a crew of characters from myth and fairytale lore into battle across a spectacular galaxy in search of allies, spells, and treasures to ensure your ultimate victory!

Begin each game by selecting a Captain with its own unique effect.
Will you choose Dorothy to help complete her friends’ quests? Or Dragonmother to discover what hatches from her Mysterious Egg? Play as Indiana Clones to "clone" your best three treasures, or lead a troupe of toys as Geppetto!

More captains are released each month, so there’s always something new to try!

Galaxy features an eclectic cast to help you on your journey. Recruit characters and cast spells each round to prepare for your next challenge. Carefully position your cards while planning your turn—then enjoy their auto-battle against other captains and crews!

Upgrade your crew throughout the game. Character-copies give bonuses and discover powerful treasures. Enhance your board directly to keep buffs as you replace characters. The most powerful cards appear later in the game—find a Legendary crew to help make you the last captain standing!

You can capably lead any odd character, but your most powerful crews will come from smartly-selected synergies. Combine treasure effects with characters’ abilities for powerful outcomes. Leverage powerful character factions, each with their own focus, such as treasure-loving Dragons, spell-enhanced Mages, or Toys which summon additional characters during the fight!

In addition to the common pool of cards you encounter each game, each captain commands its own list of collectible elite characters to customize your plans. Select 12 cards before the game—they’ll be mixed into your card pool to potentially draw!

No timers, no pressure. Galaxy's matchmaking and async-multiplayer mean you can battle fun-but-challenging opponents whenever you want. Face real boards from other human players’ earlier games. Your finished run will join the opponent pool for others to challenge. It's fast, strategic, and endlessly fun!
When you're ready to crank up the intensity, you can play with friends in 6-player live lobbies... warning: live lobbies are the ultimate competitive experience!

While our Steam build is great for the desktop experience, Galaxy is also available on your phone or tablet! With a cross-platform account, you can sync your progress no matter which device you use and so can explore Galaxy on-the-go!

Once Upon a Galaxy is created by Million Dreams Games, an indie studio boasting a talented team. Our leads have worked on iconic games like Magic: The Gathering, Hearthstone, and Runeterra. We’re diehard fans of the card and auto-battler genres.
We believe in building a fully-functional free-to-play experience. We partner with wonderful artists to bring our vision to life (no AI artwork is used in Galaxy).
If you love our game too (we think you will!) and want to support us, you can boost your collection rewards or style your favorite cards with alternate-art skins. A monthly Galaxy Pass offers both!

The last two updates have confirmed this game is going in a direction I no longer care about. Disappointing.
I want to preface this by saying that the game is genuinely fun, and I do actually enjoy quite a bit. There is just one major problem that stops me from recommending this game: there are too many captains and too many of them are either mediocre or downright bad. The game desperately needs a favored captain selection or something to let the player choose from a pool of captains they actually want to play rather than strictly relying on RNG to hand them a good option every game. It feels really bad to be handed a string of captains you don't like playing multiple games in a row, and it feels even worse during tournaments where your chance of winning is entirely dependent on captain RNG not being dogwater. In a lot of instances it feels like the game is deciding whether or not you're allowed to win. This isn't strictly an issue of "all of the captains I was handed are bad" either. Since building a deck is part of the game, you have to deck build for *every single captain* if you want to be able to play them at all competently. And you have to unlock cards for *every single captain*. Captains don't share card pools, so even if you have a generically good decklist that should work with any captain, you can't use it on every captain unless they have all the cards. It's a frustrating aspect of an otherwise good game.

I want to like this game. I can not recommend it anymore. Too many characters, impossible to complete a deck without paying money ( I would totally pay some money to support this game if I could reasonably complete even a couple decks a season). You are forced to pay money to be at the top of the leaderboards. RNG ALWAYS feels not in your favor which just completely ruins runs. The only way to beat RNG is to pay money to have perfect decks that are consistent. Every season they release more decks which makes your progress in previous seasons worthless. Game becomes stale because you have no chance at progression unless you pay money. Great concept, horrible implementation for the casual player. It wouldn't be hard to make completing decks actually worth the time investment. It's not going to hurt your bottom line to have a progression system that allows more choice of characters. If I play the tournament and get one bad character, I lose. I thought this game was going to be cracked, turns out I'm uninstalling and done. Was close to buying stuff and supporting this game, and now I refuse to even give it a good review. Great job ruining the game devs.
This game used to be super F2P friendly. Now they have put pay to win mechancis that start at $45, increasing by $15 every time they release new cards. The worst part is, after their FOMO 'initial discount' this $45 cost will jump to $60, plus $20 each release. Just buy a AAA title at that point. This game is not worth it. (FYI I have way more play time on mobile)
If you like auto-battlers this one is definitely worth giving a try. It is free, fast-paced, and easy to learn. Similar to Hearthstone Battlegrounds but more fun and well developed in my opinion. RNG can be rough sometimes but games feel casual and go fast so it is not a big deal to just go next when you get rolled. The pvp is "async," so you are matching against recordings of other player's runs rather than facing live lobbies. I would probably prefer live pvp, but async means turns aren't timed so you can go as fast or slow as you want which can be nice. I mostly played on my phone so it was convenient to be able to set the game down whenever. The "P2W" elements do give paying players an edge but they are more like quality of life features than hard competitive advantages in my view. Paid set rerolls are what rub players the wrong way the most. I understand why the monetization frustrates people more than if the game only monetized cosmetics. Being more likely to play captains you want to play or have good collections for could give a player a higher win rate overall, but the gameplay is unaffected for the other players. Which is why I say it is more of a quality of life thing than a hard competitive advantage. Like, outside of cosmetics and new captains, I can not tell at all who spent money on this game and who didn't. You definitely can't tell who had an extra captain option before the game even started. All that being said, I do think the devs should work on improving the F2P experience to compensate for the increased monetization. Maybe by expanding the captain select options a little for everybody or adding a way for players to grind rerolls/extra slots. It would be more fun if everybody had better odds of playing the captains they like since there are 30+ every set and some are definitely more fun and interesting than the others. Ultimately though, I prefer that a free game monetize itself effectively and live rather than be overly generous and fizzle. (R.I.P. Legends of Runeterra PvP).
My go to mobile game, grinded leaderboard every season and never missed a monthly. Absolutely nuetered by a completely unnecessary pay to win mechanic, lliterally no need to implement this feature let alone charge for it. Dozens of other options to allow players to have a narrower pool to pick some of thier favorites from. Generational fall off from my goat.
The ai controlling the moves and opponents boards is literally completely random. There is no rhyme or reason to it, and often I find myself getting screwed over because the way my things move is completely insane. Zero effort was made to make it cohesive, it's piss poor, I would strongly recommend against running this until they either make it to where you can make decisions in real time (as you are not actually facing opponents in real time) or make the ai have a modicum of sense. Completely piss poor development.
Newest change is just the nail in the coffin of this game being worth playing, should be quite clear that this is a bad decision to anyone that really thinks about it at all, I don't understand how a change like this could even get past the idea stage.
used to play everyday with my phone. 170-day streak already. but now the game is crap.. i cant stand it anymore goodbye
Loved this game. Played many games a day on mobile, so my hours are not properly reflective of how much I've played. I've been a top 60 MMR player. Was a huge fan and want to support a small venture like this. With the new update introducing pay-to-win microtransactions I can no longer do so. The devs created an issue of getting to play as worse captains or captains you don't have as many cards for and then sold something to help remedy this: Rerolling for more captains every game, with every +1 reroll per game costing $20 to do so. You get the +1 forever, but this is still egregiously unfair for free-to-play players who are stuck without this advantage of increasing your pool of stronger captains or those you have more cards for while the top MMR players will have stronger captains because they spent money on rerolls. Not only that, but now high MMR games will have more of the same OP captains as the chances for them being present will increase, leading to more stale games, and more one-sided games if you don't have the rerolls. Will not be playing again until this is fixed, and time's a ticking before I end up forgetting about this game entirely.
