I enjoyed Not Tonight (and of course the inspiration Papers Please) but Not Tonight 2 is weak. Not as funny, barely any attachment to the many characters that get thrown into your face, weak story with a boring plot twist. Mechanically it's okay, I enjoyed the new mini-games. But there's barely any feeling of progression compared to the first game.
I think it is worth it when I bought it on sale. I just want a chill game to unwind after work so this does the job. The UI is slightly better than the first game. HOWEVER I have to say the writing is incredibly stupid. It was tolerable until the player got to NYC on the map, lol. The story/plot is really laughable - it does not make any sense. It is insanely childish (and I say this as someone who usually likes fantasy/nerdy stuff) and I doubt even teens would appreciate it??? Well, I didn't buy the game for the story so I guess I'd just skip the dialogue and fast forward to the actual bouncer game? Nope! The game will PENALIZE you for skipping the dialogue. Health, morale, money, you name it. Like hello, I just want to be a bouncer, check IDs and get through the levels. Not here to read the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ story. UGH! Reminds me of Pixel Cafe. Fun gameplay - just cooking food and making drinks for the customers. But the storyline is super depressing with no upbeat/comfort. I just wanted to play the game so I skipped the story, which is fine. But Not Tonight would not let me skip without getting penalized. Also, it is really annoying to have the pop-up message in game when you make a mistake or when it is half time/last call. The messsge will hover over the important guestlist/scan images etc so I cannot see the correct name or pattern to make a decision. I wish I could disable them or at least have them pop up somewhere else, not on top of important information!
You could play another video game that looked better. You could play another video game that had better gameplay; there are many. But you couldn't really play another video game that was as important as this one. That's right: Not Tonight 2 is among the most important video games you could play today, June 30, 2026. What naysayers would construe as hyperbole I would simply say: you either play Not Tonight 2 now for its biting satire, or you play it in the future when its satire become historical fact. In a post-modern world where god is dead and truth is whatever you feel like, there's not much room for satire. But its a good thing that PanicBarn created this game over three years ago. Somehow, they included an unbelievable setting where the White House becomes an entertainment venue, strung up with colored lights and blaring loud music. And then, a funny thing happened: reality. Two weeks ago, the White House erected a giant cage to hang colored lights and loudspeakers to blare loud music to become the nation's pre-eminent entertainment venue by hosting UFC Freedom 250 on its South Lawn. I didn't watch it, so I can't say if a guy got kicked in the balls at the Whtie House, but it remains true: the times--they are a changin'. And it got put into a video game. This one. No other video game can compare to this for current events. You can read all the negative reviews that lambast this game for trivial gamer complaints that their pettiness won't allow, but they're missing the big picture. There aren't many satiric video games like this one in which you are basically playing real life, one where ICE officers storm a protest and disappear protesters at a undisclosed jail in Florida. Sorry for the spoilers, but it's not really necessary when it takes place in the first 30 seconds of Not Tonight 2. In the future, after whatever happens had happened, they'll use this video game as some kind of time capsule, as in one they shot back from the future to warn us. Some things satirized in the game have not yet happened: the ocean overtaking coastal cities, a giant wall on the border of Mexico not to keep migrants out but to keep Americans from fleeing... what are you waiting for? Are you waiting for these things to come true, like how you can now give Yelp reviews for Washington D.C.'s hot new entertainment venue? To be clear, Not Tonight 2 is not an anti-Trump game; in fact, he nor his name are not in it. Instead, it is a game about the rise of unchecked power the fulfillment of evil motivations come true. Whatever the future may bring, its true that by this date in time, the world is ungoing a seismic shift in power. There is a new world order. An empire has fallen. What was, won't be again. Now, any which way, you're going to live and experience the world. As a gamer, wouldn't you rather play it first before it becomes true? The tl;dr: Play this game. Sooner than later. Buy it and play it today. Or experience satire as historical fact.
Boring plot and ugly-as-♥♥♥♥ portraits. Stale, outdated, narrow-minded dialogue with inconsistent progression. It takes the excellent *Not Tonight* formula and bogs it down with nuisance activities meant to add “nuance,” when they are really just busywork. A massive downgrade from the first game. The moment I saw the anime-ified character portraits, I knew this ♥♥♥♥ was going to be ass. The gameplay is still solid-ish, but only because 90% of it is based on the first game’s gameplay loop. I really wanted another addition to one of my favorite game formats, yet this ended up being a sad, neo-political dumpster fire that never needed to happen. I would rather replay the first game and see Sharen again.
Its not even a game. Its just a bunch of angry blue hairs pushing their agenda, I dont know why I bought this. Straight in the trash.
Poor story, poor writing and the new mechanics are horrible.. you lose health everyday and only regain by choose the decision they want you to choose Also having a place in the game where you auto-lose and have to reload is just plain dumb (the soup stop).
I played through both Not Tonight 1 and 2, and I find myself coming back to the first game, never the second. I never really found the plot all that intriguing, and with every other day having you travel somewhere new, you never get to appreciate any new mechanics they add. Speaking of, I feel like the mechanics are just way too overdone. In Not Tonight 1, they all made sense. The item detector, the social cards, it all made sense in a "worse case scenario" scenario for the place it took place in. Here, why the heck am I putting sauces on poutine? It makes no sense. Plus in the grand scheme of things, it means nothing! And they're usually gone after 2 days. The characters I could never get behind too. Going back to the OG game, you had a bit of customization with your character, and it felt like you. The struggles felt real. Here it more feels like "You gotta get these characters to their goal". Especially having them named, they tried to be someone. But I can't even remember their names. Overall it has a good base to work with, but there was too much and at the same time too little. I can't in good faith recommend this game. Get the first one, you get so much more fun out of it in my opinion.
