I love this game so much! I can't begin to express how fun it is. I was a tester and have over 150 hours in the test version. It runs great on my Steam Deck. It's so cute and cozy but you can also choose to play a harder version. The day length can be customized as well so you don't feel rushed trying to get stuff done. You also don't faint and are not forced to sleep at a certain time. The clock will stop at midnight and you can do your farming and decorating and tending your Nimbits without pressure. Once you go to bed, the game begins a new day. You can also save anytime, except in the Underwild (Dungeon), but the game will autosave when you start a run. The dungeons is where this game really shines. With all the different charms and artifact combos you randomly get each run feels fresh. You can choose different paths for each floor, choosing to go fishing or harvesting plants or fighting more Mimnocks. I love listening to an audiobook and just spending about an hour exploring all 3 biomes, but you can also choose to visit just one or 2 and in any order you prefer. Different weather and times affects what appears, everything from the Nimbits available to the items you find. You also aren't rushed because you can unlock a charm that makes it daytime even at night. So you need a mushroom that only shows up on sunny mornings, not a problem if you picked that card for the day. The game is also very simple on the surface level but once you really start to understand it, it's actually pretty complex. You can raise Nimbits to release as soon as they learn a handful of skills or you can perfect their habits based on each ones individual needs and get a perfect rank. You choose a path in the beginning that makes it easier, so you can play however you chose. You aren't forced to understand the hidden mechanics behind it and it's actually pretty easy to get them to S rank, by grouping them 4 at a time of the same species, but you can also mix them up and give yourself more of a challenge. The game really lets you make it as simple or complex as you want. The art is amazingly adorable too especially your dog. And the NPCs are hot! I want to date them all! The devs are very responsive to feedback and player input and run a very cozy and friendly Discord server as well, so definitely join if you are on Discord.

I've played mannnyyy EA games. Most I just pick up, play for 4-5 hours and shelve them until full release because of how bare they feel. But I can already tell this one is going to be a problem >.<. Do you guys remember the 'Field of Mistria' EA launch? How polished it was? It was absolute quality and vision right from the start. I felt like I was playing (an almost) finished product. Those are the vibes I am getting here. This game looks and plays wonderfully on the steam deck. The art is hands down my favourite part. It is a style I haven't really seen before, sleek and futuristic. On screen you don't get a lot of character facial features or clothing detail, it almost appears minimalistic. But when you talk with people, the character portrait art is displayed and that is where you are able to admire it all. It is really beautifully done. I do wish there were more options to customize your character beyond choosing your hairstyle (with limited choices) and colour scheme. I consider myself a very moody gamer. Sometimes I feel like shooters, sometimes I want farming, sometimes I want light puzzles. This game offers a bit of everything which I wasn't expecting. At it's core, it is creature collecting (nimbits). But in order to do that, you have to engage in some action roguelike dungeon crawling. While diving, you can mine and forage. When you are not diving, you can explore and engage with a whole storyline and village. You have choices to make. Relationships to strengthen. You not only catch creatures, but you raise them and build the habitat they live in. There is even farming and fishing!! Do you want to become the strongest nimbiteer? Catch them all? Maybe your focus is discovering nimbits and caring for them in your sanctuary in hopes of releasing as many back into the wild. In this game you are given these choices, to be the creature collector you want to be with themes of conservation at the heart. I haven't encountered any issues. I have no complaints but will update this review as I continue playing with suggestions, if I have any. The only thing I would like to see are more weapon variations. Right now you have a sword for melee combat. It would be cool if there were ranged options as well for people who prefer that playstyle. I've only just started but I am excited to see what this grows into. The premise and characters are interesting and I am enjoying the gameplay. It is very clear that love and care were put into this EA launch. And I appreciate that so much. I feel like my time and the money I invested in this game are being respected. Thank you for showing us what an EA game should look like, well done! This is a soft no. Treat it as a "Not Yet". The game has promise, but the /many/ mechanics clutter 1. Dungeoning: Combat is 7/10, great variety, correct difficulty, occasionally weird enemy AI. Gathering is 5/10: I'm happily surprised that there are gathering minigames, but they are slow, repetitive, and at odds with the combat speed. The fact that you can use the Pickaxe in combat is cool, but begs the question of why the slot 3 and 4 tools are still active if they have no combat application. Meanwhile bombs are on F to equip? Also bombs can't be thrown until you're completely still unlike sword/pick, which feels off for the fast combat. 2. Raising: Environment building is 9/10. Synergies, placement bonuses, and creature needs all combine into a wonderful web of desires. Training, 7/10, good enough but there's jank. 3. Progression: really locked down and satisfying. Plenty of unlocks, plenty of currencies, plenty of variety. Doesn't feel like you get way too much of anything too early. 8/10 4. Everything Else: 4/10. Balancing the Dungeon/Raising/City just isn't right, every one of them feels like it eats into time you want to spend on the others. City: even once you memorize it, is not an interesting place to navigate nor are the NPCs particularly noteworthy. UX: unintuitive in many ways. You need to exit out of a shop menu each time you want to access a different type of thing it sells. Selecting an item from a list happens in completely different ways depending on what you're doing. Audio: passable. Art: Decent but /very/ different styles juxtaposed together makes it hard to identify important elements. Why do the shop signs shine constantly? Calendar/Weather/Relationships/Dating/TownQuests: So many elements common to other games but all fairly bland and disconnected from the rest of the gameplay. Not a bad game, in fact very competent. But I can't help but remember other games that due each element better. The combination of fast 2D action, thoughtful raising/management, and city/RPG is a unique combination, but right now it's just not mixed together in a way that makes the whole shine. I'm even tempted to ask that each element be slowed down, because doing a bit of each every in-game day leads to all three feeling individually slow. I truly deeply wish the team the best! I'll be checking back for full release, and I suspect I'll flip this recommendation once I do. :)
VERY cute and fun creature collector game where you can actually care for the creatures and act as a conservationist! The art style is super fun and pleasing, the dialogue is fun and easy to follow, and the music is really good so far! The combat is not the typical turn based combat and instead is a action style combat with roguelike dungeon diving mechanics! I love it very much so far and would definitely recommend for fans of creature collector and roguelike games!
Great game! Very cute, I like a lot of it. Positives: - Three different paths. I only experienced one, but they all allow you to progress your rank in different ways - Villagers have lively personalities - Growing and raising the Nimbit is cute and satisfieng, especially once you unlock the coral. - No pressure in the dungeon. Once it's 'Late' time will stop progressing. You can still continue your delve, only the city is asleep. - many different capture devices, which buff your catching chance depending on different variables (time of day, enviromental factors like puddles, debuffs like being on fire, or what you have in your inventory) - You can unlock a feature pretty early on that changes the rules of your next run slightly. Negatives: - The city seems very empty. The people are alive and have personalites, and do their own thing... but you can interact with very little. Gus for example. He gave us a quest to open a geode up, and he has the machine for it in his own house... but that is when Gus stops mattering in the game. He doesn't want anything to do with geodes after that, he doesn't buy then, doesn't process them (like in jewelrey), doesn't collect it, gives no educational infos about the minerals you found, nothing really. - Delving can get a bit boring, sadly. After every section of the depths you are stopped from progression, until you find 4 specific items. Finding those items are depending on your luck, as finding the right fish even in a fishing stage in the right section is not guaranteed. Until you progress you will find very few new Nimbits, the game won't vary all that much in difficulty (and I never fainted anyways, so it could use more challenge), and you won't see all that many new environments. Combine this with the fact that there are very few fighting styles (sword, bomb, fire bomb) and everything starts to feel a little same-y.
Been excited for this game ever since I played the demo and I am absolutely thrilled with the launch. It's charming, the art style is cute (character design reminds me of 33 Immortals, which is a compliment! Sometimes simplicity is just best, and the animations feel very fluid and satisfying). The dungeons just feel really, really good to play through. There's enough randomization to keep runs interesting. The game gives you as much time as you want in the game to do all the cozy stuff and habitat building. I really love this take on the creature collector genre where releasing them is the point, instead of hoarding hundreds of them in boxes. Still, letting some go is a little bittersweet, because I love these little guys so much!
A unique experience in the Life Sim/Farming genre. I appreciate the devs giving us a choice of how we play and creating goals around our selection. It's fun taking care of our creatures and trying to get them back into the wild. So far they have a good amount of QoL, like quick deposit and increasing day time length. I hope they continue with QoL. Like being able to change your outfit/hair/colors whenever you want. So far my only critique is that fishing is a little tedious and getting the arrow to be precise is more difficult on the keyboard. The devs have a solid plan moving forward. And you can't beat that price! If you want to see some gameplay, check out my video! https://youtu.be/h0EAoz3j4xA
I have absolutely fallen in love with Nimbit Frontier! It has a great balance between dungeon-crawl mechanics and difficulty, combined with the incredibly adorable nimbits you can raise and release. I enjoy the amount of variety of creatures, and the depth of progression that exists in the game currently makes it fun to create the perfect environments to optimize which traits your nimbits inherit. The dungeons are great! The difficulty even on the harder settings doesn't make progression overly difficult. There is a variety of different resources you unlock as you progress, and there isn't any one particular item/mimock that feels impossible to find. I really enjoy learning each mimocks attack patterns and slowly improving the rate I can progress through the dungeons daily. The unlock mechanic for the new areas flows really well, and the differences between each area make running through all of them back to back fun! I especially enjoy that items and artifacts carry over between each level, and that you have to plan your dive in order to optimize getting the artifacts you need to increase tether/gold/essence rates. Raising the nimbits is very unique, and it's done in a style that is similar to other creature keepers in that you create an environment based on each specific nimbit's needs. I enjoy the variety, though learning how to encourage them to learn "courting" behavior took me a bit longer than I expected, if only because i made sure everyone was very spread out. I love the variety in terms of environment and nutrition items, and that some can be purchased while others have to be discovered while diving. The training mechanic combined with the corral makes training enjoyable without becoming overly repetitive. I also enjoy the "teach cry" mechanic, as it's very different and way more interactive compared to using the training treats to guide a nimbit. Along with this, the fishing mechanic is perfectly done, making it really enjoyable to fish and learn how the mechanics work, unlike many other games that make fishing one of my least favorite mechanics. It has a great combination of variety, difficultly, and pricing that makes fishing feel financially worth it. The only thing I really hope to see more work on in the future is the town and townsfolk. Maybe it's because I'm still not at 5 hearts with everyone, but the dialogue feels a little repetitive as time goes on, and it is a little difficult to increase friendship with people without hoping to get a bulletin request from them. I do really enjoy that you can use an active corral as a way to increase friendship, but I wish that was a mechanic you could use for everyone and not just the romance options. I love the different personalities everyone has, and getting to see different short "heart events" is lovely as well! I can't wait to see what I might be missing as I work to get everyone to 5 hearts, but overall the friendship mechanic is the only thing currently that feels like it might be a little lacking for now. I absolutely love the game, and I am very excited to see what will come in the future!
For those who love dashing in Hades, collecting in Pokemon, and meeting the neighbors in Stardew Valley--this game manages to seamlessly blend those elements, while building a world and gameplay loop that is all its own. As expected for an EA release, I've run into the odd thing that is a bit wonky, but even between the demo three weeks ago and the EA release today, I can already see the effort being put into fixing bugs and QoL improvements.
