About
Nightlings is a first person, fast-paced survival horror game, where you play as a 10 year old child, left home alone for the weekend while your parents handle a family emergency out of town. Initially thrilled by the freedom, your excitement fades quickly as midnight approaches. Strange, goblin-like creatures from forgotten neighborhood folklore appear outside, intent on breaking into your home to slaughter you.
Your goal? Run, Secure, and Survive. Run around your house, blocking off all entries to secure your home from the Nightlings, and survive the nights until 7 AM.
Each night will get progressively more intense, with more entrances opening up. You'll have to strategize your movements to get to each entrance and block off the Nightlings before it's too late.
Note from the devs.

This game is so boring and repetitive that I want my 12 minutes of life back
For a game made by only a couple college students as a learning project, it's quite decent! A few bugs here and there, but it's quite a good effort for a game made from scratch in only 4 months! Definitely shows a lot of potential from these creators.
I want my 30 minutes back, and a diet dr pepper. all jokes aside congratulations to the dev team

I protect this house like I protect my virginity. good game feel like something you can find on itch https://youtu.be/C0wPzS2ao7M
its a nice proof of concept and i see potential for it the atmosphere needs work as a lot of the sounds just play over and over with no variation and the nightling's model is uh well... underwhelming. the pace feels alright but playing on the second difficulty i didn't have or even feel like i needed to eat the candy once. things id like to see in this game that'd definitely make me come back and play it again are, better sounds, scarier models, maybe nightling types?, also the first half of every night was spent gathering toys in the only place i needed them (the front door) and gathering a bit of firewood just for convenience then just running to place to place with little urgency, a solution i see is to somehow limit the amount of toys you can have nearby each other or incorporate a few more places you have to bring the toys (ie. converting the basement entrance into a place you have to feed the toys into and making a backdoor one aswell that way on night one its only one entrance and by night three you have more and its much harder and has some serious urgency) overall rating 8/10 for what it is and what its meant to be
I wasn't expecting a good scare from a free game, but was pleasantly surprised by very decent jump-scares. The game requires a lot of quick thinking when it comes to keeping The Nightlings out, which I absolutely loved. My friends loved watching me get jumpscared on stream too aha
mid , not scary at all aswell
"Nightlings" is one of literally thousands of student projects infesting Steam. While student projects tend to be better quality than most "amateur" made games, we must still question what value such projects have for gamers. As with all student projects, this isn't really a fully fleshed out game, it's just the result of an academic exercise, and as such it has much more limited value as a game than a professionally developed game would have. Educational institutions should not be using Steam as a dumping ground for homework assignments (especially if the students didn't even pass the course). Sure, it helps their marketing and helps the students feel good about themselves, but this is another case of a business putting themselves before the needs of gamers. This time the students made a very poorly done first person horror game (wow, nobody ever thought of that before) with a FNAF type vibe as you take on the role of a child and run around your house blocking doors and so on to protect the house from goblins or whatever. Yawn. The gameplay comes across more as busywork than any serious endeavour due to poor style and narrative design coupled with the amateurish, low quality visuals. The graphics aren't great, somewhat low poly stuff, poor quality textures, and a bit of it looks asset flipped (although that is not confirmed and as a student project we will assume the students are not engaging in plagiarism, that would be highly unethical). That's understandably a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. It would be unethical for students to try charge money for their homework assignments, so you don't have to pay any money for this. But you'd still have to spend your time downloading this, and "time is money", as they say. There's the other problem, too... as a student project, this wasn't made for gamers. There's no requirement for them to polish and balance the game properly, all they need is something to show the faculty so they can get their grade and move on. Let's once more ask... why is that good for gamers? It's obviously not delivering a solid product. Yet here it is, on the store page, and here you are, reading my review for a student demo that's going to waste your time. While genuine amateur developers who made real products get ignored because they have to compete with this stuff. In some ways, this deluge of student projects on Steam is harmful to everyone. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 6 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Since this is more of a student tech demo than a full, genuinely made game for gamers, and offers no Steam features, like a +1 to your game count, I can't recommend downloading this over a full, professionally made game, of which there are thousands here on Steam.
