This game was exceedingly short, and it has it's host of issues, but overall I enjoyed it. Your sanctuary resets after every run, you keep the bonuses for completing objectives however, and I noticed that with the one flail weapon you can spam click and destroy the balance of any animal that attacks on melee. It's a short game but enjoyable.
Ill be honest I went into this thinking it was going to be your standard roguelite, do a run get, get wrecked, upgrade yourself, go again, get further, fight a boss, wrecked again, etc. but to end up beating it by the second run (first run after the starting figure out whats happening run) and pretty easily at that i cant help but be a bit disapointed. im pretty sure i missed a bit of story by not having the many deaths and story beats you get when you rez but it just didnt happen. not to mention when i got to the third world the game started becoming a slideshow meaning i pretty much just had to fight in the vague direction and hope, and i still somehow managed to easily breeze through it was just underwhelming. and finally the story, warning this is just full spoilers so click at your own peril
going through and hearing what humans did to the androids and then watching the "peace" agreement and your character just going along with it felt wrong, i get ive probably been playing too maany choice matter type games but maybe its just me and my human experience talking but i would have been way more surprised had the admiral not betrayed us. i get that stories and games are hard and ill admit i like the game.
i guess its on me for expecting different but for me it was just too easy and the story just didnt click i guess. respect to the devs
Enjoyable little game bogged down by being too easy, short, and a lackluster storyline. Not to mention poorly optimized and very buggy. The gameplay overall is quite fun, with the traditional roguelite standard mechanics and base customization. The real joy comes in collecting and finding all the different animals you can house. With 36 different unique animals, it is quite a joy to find new ones. Some, however, seem pretty overpowered (such as the vampire bat healing and the swinging flail). The real qualm I have with the game is that I beat the final boss and concluded the storyline on my second run, same as another reviewer. It is simply far too easy for a bullet hell roguelike. Even HP is easy to accrue and I was basically facetanking everything with the vampire heal + flail + the one million passives I got throughout the run. I wish there was harder difficulties unlocked after you beat your first run or something, because then builds would actually matter and you'd have to make deeper choices aside from just choosing whatever sounds good. By the last zone, the game itself also visually becomes chaos, meaning the only real way to survive IS to just facetank and heal through everything, meaning the vampire bat heal becomes a crutch. The story is pretty mediocre.
Sentient androids good -- humans bad.
Maybe it's due to the fact that I beat the game on my second run, but there's no real build up or mystery. Just a very generic story with no deep meaning. I get the environmentalist theme but there's a better way to go about it than beating us over the head with a very black and white moral. Real life environmentalism and conservationism has a lot of nuance and gray areas to address. This story could have done the same rather than revealing that
nah, humans were bad all along lol shoot a giant laser.
I won't touch on the bugs all that much because other reviewers have but there are quite a few weird and major bugs -- sanctuary customization gets messed up after a run, currency gain doesn't seem to be accurate, sometimes exiting the base customization menu gets me stuck with the inability to reopen it, just to name a few. Later on runs become EXTREMELY laggy due to how many entities and visual effects are on screen, forcing you to facetank as much as possible. By the end of the run, usually your build will have almost everything anyways. Overall, I love the art, aesthetic and theme, I just wish the game itself was deeper and had more nuance. There's potential here and it's why I play and support indie games. I just hope the dev takes the foundation that this game laid and is able to expand upon it in the future, whether its expanded updates to NEB or a new game/sequel entirely.
I feel as though I barely scratched the surface of this game, but what I saw seriously impressed me. I was particularly drawn to the mechanical depth and how genuinely lovely this game looks. Kudos. FULL VIDEO - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNl1BmcV__Q
Fun concept but the builder is a buggy mess, placing/removing things where cursor isnt, unable to select the basic ground tiles, somehow locked myself out of the terraforming mode when I decided I was done for the night. prob gonna wait for a patch or two before I pick it back up. Combats not bad but in the later areas is kinda visually overwhelming and can't tell whats going on half the time, havent unlocked everything but bat is magnitudes better than the other pets IMO.
Never Ending Beyond — A Charming Roguelite That Keeps on Giving In a genre crowded with dungeon crawlers and deck-builders, Never Ending Beyond manages to carve out something genuinely fresh. The core conceit alone earns it points for originality: you play as the CareTakerUnit, an Android who pets animals to gain their powers and fight alongside them. It's a wonderfully absurd premise that the game commits to wholeheartedly, and it works. The animal sprites are an immediate highlight. Each creature is rendered with a charm that makes you want to collect them all. Whether you're bonding with a fluffy mammal or a mythical beast, the visual personality on display is hard not to smile at. Where the game truly shines, though, is in its build diversity. Each animal brings its own weapon and passive ability to the table, and mixing and matching these across your run is endlessly entertaining. Don't let the relatively short runtime fool you. The real draw here is in the experimentation. Testing different ability combinations, finding unexpected synergies, and refining your playstyle across multiple runs gives the game a replayability that punches well above its content length. That said, not everything clicked for me personally. The farming mechanic in the home base, where you plant loot collected from your runs, felt like a detour I wasn't eager to take. It's a thoughtful addition for players who enjoy that slower, nurturing loop. But if patience for tending a garden isn't in your DNA, it may feel like an obligation rather than a reward. This is very much a personal gripe rather than a design flaw, and others will likely find it a welcome breather between runs. Never Ending Beyond is a creative, cute, and surprisingly replayable roguelite that stands out by doing something different with a well-worn formula. If you can overlook the farming if it's not your thing, there's a lot to love here. Verdict: Recommended
It’s fun
The game has a lot of potential, it's very fun and has a lot of combos, i really loved collecting all the animals and trying the new weapons. There's a point that you feel you're getting super OP with all the passives and animals helping you, but the bosses give some fight back :) The animations are fantastic, the game still has a some bugs, but that's normal since it got realeased last week. I'm super curious and i'm looking forward for more updates. (And maybe DLCs at some point)
I have just started playing this game and ohhh man its pretty darn good. The kangaroo drill so fun to move around with and kangaroo boomerang fun to kill many enemies with. I shall update continously. Fun fun fun
