Awkward controls and bugs might force you to quit before finishing this short game. The story or reason behind your actions is pretty entertaining. You play as a necromancer skeleton who has ran out of jam and other yummy breakfast ingredients. He gets his magical staff and rushes to find them. Regardless of pixel art, the graphics are basic. All you see are dungeon walls and darkness surrounding them. There is a strange line on each side of the screen that is a graphical glitch, but it is not too distracting. The path to jams is made out of puzzle rooms that require necromancer’s abilities and the help of his summoned minions. The necromancer isn’t very agile, but still has the basic movement abilities. He walks slow and can barely jump so even basic platformers and holes cause him problems. Fortunately, death is not an issue because he will instantly resurrect nearby with no penalty. This means that every puzzle activity will be completed or solved, and you will not be forced to restart the entire room after each death. The game is fairly brief because each stage is a single large room separated into smaller chambers. Minion are little creatures that can be called from a heap of bones. They come in several colors, each representing a particular ability. The first one can carry items, even the necromancer, the second can serve as a platform when you jump into the designated area, and the third can pass through barriers that match his color. You use the mouse wheel to switch between them, and the color of the selected minion appears on your staff. Minions cannot die. When they fall into a pit, they fly to a safe location in a bubble. The main issue comes with minion control. While the necromancer is controlled with keys, the minion moves to a certain location when you right-click on it. They won't go above elevation, so there's a different key for jumping. The action is carried out with the left mouse button. Climbing is the most annoying since you must come near, left click on the rope, right click on the top to climb up, and finally press the jump button to release the rope. Another issue could be related to the game engine's limitations. The camera follows the necromancer, therefore if you leave your minion outside the view, you will not be able to see it. However, you can still control it. Although you may learn to accept strange controls, there are many bugs that could eventually destroy the fun. Minions cannot die, however they do not always fly up out of the pit in a bubble. If you come out of a door and rapidly jump on a rope, the minion will get stuck and be able to move all over the screen. If a minion stands under a moving platform, he will clip into the ground and fall to the bottom. Each bug will cause you to restart the entire stage. The game can be completed in around one hour and there are no achievements or extras.
Full playthrough: https://youtu.be/posMwm6Br_A?si=MYad1X8qQDi7mlnm&t=125 Sweet but much too short puzzle game that very clearly has a lot of heart. The soundtrack is genuinely pretty great chiptune and it got a chuckle or two out of me throughout. Love the expressiveness of some of the artwork and the "Spread that Bread!" segments are highlights! I was perpetually confused on exactly what the Green minion's abilities were but I may have just had a buggy first encounter with him. All in all, I think it's worth a play, but am more excited for the next thing these devs cook up, because this first debut showcases a lot of potential!
It's is better then any game on the market, quit short but the devs have shown they're love and support! Can't not wait for future updated and they're next game!
Short game made by some good friends and decent overall for a first time game developer group. Only an hour, cheap, clever, and funny a times. Support this small indie game group that I have been with for a while.
Awesome Game Jam game. Has a lot of potential and could use a few quality of life changes, but overall nice and short puzzle game.
Let's Get That Bread
The gameplay is quite enjoyable and the puzzles can stump you if aren't paying close attention. I would have liked to see more difficult puzzles that took longer to complete but maybe they can expand upon that in future levels/games. Jumping also feels a little off and I found myself dying to gaps that I should not have. The camera is also buggy at times but nothing gamebreaking. Overall an amazing game and a good use of 99 cents for some fun!
NECROMANCIA! BUN BUDUDUUN DUUDUU BUN DUDUDUUUDUU DOODALOODOOOOOOO JUAN DINGUS, the main character is PICTURE BELOW. _..--""---. / ". | ' ._ ,._ l/"\ | _J<__/.v._/ \ ( ,~._ , , , ,-) `- \' \ ` , , j | \_,____J
tons of pixel-art style but non-functional controls, clearly some combination of mouse and keyboard are expected but no combo of clicks and keys make the game respond in a sensible way by the time I reach *just* the 3rd screen of the game. Come on people, why do you release such poorly tested games on steam? Ask 2 friends to play your game for the first time and you'd have found this (and probably many more bugs).
A short sweet puzzle platformer that is definitely worth your time.
