Natural Soccer

A tough one. I mean it did not cost much and it is ok to play. Not bad, but it is also very shallow. There is simply not much to it. Guess it is supposed to be retro, but even the retro games had more than this. It is alpha though. If the game developes in some time, i will change the recommendation.

This game looks nice, considering it's inspired by the old-school helicopter view classics like sensible soccer. It is also very playable, if you set the game speed to 75 %. This is adjustable from 75 (which feels the most like real life to me) to 125 %, for those who enjoy football at the speed of light (the game lacks any breaking-the-sound-barrier-effects). As far as the realistic physics go, I can agree as long as the speed setting is set at the aforementioned level. AI is decent, with defenders doing a very good job in getting in the way of your shot. It will take some passing and/or dribbling skills to find space. When playing with a keyboard, this is where the game has serious issues (spoiler alert: all the cons in this review are related to playing this game with a keyboard). The sprint button is <Esc>! (what the actual...) with the remaining control buttons being the logical A, S, D, and Q, I wonder what grudge the developers have against the W key. There is no way to change these controls. However, it is possible to play without sprinting (just disable it in the settings). This obviously takes the fun of taking on an opponent or even chase a long ball out of the game. Which brings me to the next issue: there is no way to control the pace and distance of long balls. With short passing, the game will roughly aim the pass at a player that is positioned in the direction your aiming at, making short passing tiki-taka play very managable if you keep an eye on where your opponents are. This aiming feature is not there for long balls: the direction is exactly the one in which the player is running and using the arrows to control the curve of the ball only makes up for so much. Meanwhile this also makes your player move about. As far as power and distance goes, holding the button down seems to work every now and then, but with the ball being released at random moments (and sometimes instantly) when you press the key, this remains guesswork. This lack of aiming also affects the shooting: while shots will always be powerfull enough to hit the target and holding the button never does anything (this one is actually consistant!), the direction of the shot will again be the same as the direction of running. Playing on a keyboard, this means aiming comes with 45 degree intervals, so there are many positions in and around the box from which it is impossible to get your shot on target. Like with the long passes, controlling the curve of the ball can only make up for so much. All goals I have scored were close range rebounds after the goalkeeper couldn't hold on to the ball. While there is clearly a lot of effort in this game, it looks good and the physics are very realistic, I cannot recommend this game for those who play with a keyboard. The controls are just too limited and this makes it annoying and boring very quickly.

GOOOOOAAAAAL :D :D Ich habe in den letzten Tagen eine ganze Reihe an "2d Oldscool / Pixel / Arcade / TopDown usw" ausprobiert, als letztes "NATURAL SOCCER"... ...aber ausgerechnet dieses Spiel (!!!), welches bereits seit 2017 / 9 Jahren auf der Wunschliste stand, ist meiner Meinung nach der derzeit beste "Old Scool Soccer". Das hätte ich mir viel früher anschauen sollen. Andere Games dieser Art setzen auf umfangreiche Editormöglichkeiten in den Ligen oder haben ein "Team-Management-light" usw, besonders niedliche Grafiken (zb Pixel Cup Soccer), vernachlässigen aber das eigentlich wesentliche an so einem Spiel: DIE SPIELBARKEIT ! Hier hat sich der Entwickler jedoch genau auf das konzentriert. Das beginnt beim sehr gutem PASS-SYSTEM oder dem Wechsel des aktiven Spielers (ohne Ball) welches sogar im Automatikmodus passabel ist, optional lassen sich Spieler aber auch per Taste wechseln. Die (ki)-Spieler laufen sich vernüftig frei, auch mal einem Ball entgegen usw, ebenfalls etwas was in vergleichbaren Games schlechter funktioniert. ENTGEGEN eines negativen Reviews hier LASSEN SICH BÄLLE sehr wohl "anschneiden" und die Stärke lässt sich sogar in den Optionen einstellen (After-Touch-Funktion). Der DRIBBLING-MODUS lässt sich ebenfalls in 3 Stufen anpassen, vom "Klebeball-Dribbling" bis hin zum Oldscool "Kick Off" Mode, so das dieses Spiel im "Dribbling Hard - Modus" am ehesten den alten Klassikern nahekommt, wenn man es denn so Hardcore will. Das WESENTLICHE GRUNDGERÜST eines solchen Spieles ist hier mMn sehr gut umgesetzt! # Der wesentliche Unterschied zu früher ist jener, das man damals idR nur 1 Taste für alles hatte, und wenn man ehrlich ist und diese alten Spiele WIRKLICH gespielt hat ;), häufig die Beherrschung der Steuerung spielentscheidenter war als die Spielzüge ansich. Hier hat man hingegen separate Tasten für "Pass", "Schuss" , "Takle" , "Sprint" , "manuelle Spielerwahl", und damit Kontrolle über das Spiel (!) und das spielt sich nach kurzer Einspielzeit sehr flüssig und auch mMn besser als "damals" mit 1 Taste ^^ , für mich ist der Spagat ein klassisches Soccergame in die Neuzeit zu holen jedenfalls gelungen. Ps: wer wirklich das "Originale Spielgefühl" eines zb "KickOff" haben will, der soll sich halt einen Amigaemulator besorgen, das ist keine Raketenwissenschaft ;) (oder eben die Sensible Soccer Freeware ink Ligasystem usw). Kann natürlich auch sein das man danach die Rosarote-Retrobrille absetzt und ernüchtert sagt: "ja damals wars toll, seiner Zeit gemäß, aber heute darfs auch gern etwas mehr usability sein..." :-D . Und das schreibe ich als jemand der regelmässig alte Games am Amiga daddelt. Und das verleitet mich auch zu einem unüblichem Kommentar zu den wenigen negativen Kritiken hier: (die LEIDER vermutlich ein Grund dafür waren das Spiel erst jetzt zu testen) Entweder die Leute erwarten ein 1 zu 1 "KickOff" / "SS" ect, dann spielt einfach die Originale ;) oder aber so Murks wie "X-Box Controller geht nicht" oder "Bälle lassen sich nicht anschneiden" pipapo, also keine 2 Minuten mit dem Spiel beschäftigt, beides geht und zwar super ;) . Vielleicht kam "Natural Soccer" auch schlicht einige Jahre zu früh, vor dem derzeitigem "Retro-Boom", so das Es heute in der Masse der Retrogames etwas untergeht und die Leute (wie ich auch) zunächst zu neueren Titeln greifen, aber nach ein paar Stunden daddeln finde ich das Spiel etwas unterbewertet, auch im Steamranking (!) taucht es erst spät auf und doch macht es vieles besser als vergleichbare Spiele dieser Art. Was evt fehlt: Jetzt kann man selbstverständlich bemängeln das die Spieler nicht ermüden, man evt die Spieler/Stärken optional deutlich diverser gestalten könnte, es kein Management gibt (selbstverständlich unterschieden sich aber die Mannschaften und Ligen in ihren Stärken), es gibt auch keine editierbaren Ligen und ich fänd es auch toll wenn es das optional gäbe, aber wie gesagt andere Spiele bieten dies zwar, vergeigen es aber beim wesentlichen Grundgerüst & der Spielbarkeit. Vielleicht kommt ja noch ein TopDown-Soccer der alles "perfekt" gut umsetzt, derzeit ist jedenfalls dieser mein Favorit :D Habs jetzt im Sale für 2.50 abgestaubt aber mir wären auch die 10.- "Vollpreis" gerechtfertigt. MUH !

Was looking forward to playing this on the steam deck, it does play well but there's no sound??

Отличная игруха в стиле sensible soccer

Juegazo para ser un simple juego de futbol casual..., mucho mejor que la basura del dino dini kick off (con un control horrible y lleno de bugs hasta los topes...), el cual probe hace algunos dias y no gustandome nada, principalmente ya lo dije por el control, asi que si buscas una buena opcion de futbol arcade a la simulacion de FIFA o PES, no lo dudes..., a mi solo me gustan desde esta perspectiva (vertical y aerea). es divertidisimo! y si que lo recomiendo aunque espero añadan selecciones nacionales para poder jugar un WORLD CUP :)

Very nice game, my only complaint is the kit clashes that sometimes happen, is there a way to change the kits?? Oh and it would be amazing to get an online mode going! Thanks for a great game though!
