A great collection of classics, which also features my all-time favorite Pac-Man game, Pac-Man Championship Edition. These are 8-bit NES versions of the games and not the arcade originals, just so people know before diving in. You can find most of the arcade versions in other collections or single releases like the "Arcade Game Series" releases of Pac-Man and Dig Dug.
THE TOWER OF DRUAGA SUCKS
NAMCO MUSEUM ARCHIVES Vol. 1 serves as both a celebration of classic gaming and a reminder of how influential simple ideas were during earlier generations of the industry. Rather than functioning as a remake collection designed to reinvent old experiences, it focuses on preserving titles from the Nintendo Entertainment System era and presenting them in a format accessible to modern players. The collection acts as a look back at a period where gameplay often relied on immediate challenge, straightforward design, and mechanics that were easy to understand but difficult to master. One of the collection's strongest qualities is the variety offered across its library. Instead of limiting itself to one genre or repeating similar experiences, the package includes multiple styles of gameplay that reflect the diversity of classic game design. Players move between arcade-style action, shooters, platforming elements, exploration-focused adventures, and puzzle experiences. This variety keeps the overall package from becoming repetitive because shifting between games creates entirely different experiences and gameplay rhythms. The collection includes several recognizable titles that helped shape gaming history. Familiar games such as Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Galaxian, and Xevious remain enjoyable examples of straightforward design built around simple but effective mechanics. These games rely heavily on player skill and pattern recognition rather than large progression systems or cinematic presentation. Even decades after their original releases, many of these experiences remain easy to understand while still offering enough challenge to maintain engagement. Another interesting aspect of the collection is the inclusion of lesser-known entries alongside the larger classics. Retro compilations often focus almost entirely on the most recognizable titles, but NAMCO MUSEUM ARCHIVES Vol. 1 also introduces games that many players may have never experienced before. This adds additional value because the package becomes more than a nostalgia collection. It also functions as an opportunity to explore overlooked parts of gaming history and discover titles that may have remained inaccessible for many years. One of the most distinctive additions is the retro-inspired version of Pac-Man Championship Edition created specifically to match the style of older hardware. Instead of simply including another original release, the game reimagines a modern entry using classic visual limitations and design principles. This creates an interesting contrast because it combines newer ideas with older presentation, making the bonus content feel more meaningful than a simple extra addition. Modern quality-of-life features also improve accessibility significantly. Save options and rewind functions help reduce some of the frustration associated with older game design. Many classic games relied heavily on difficulty and limited continues to extend playtime, which can sometimes feel unforgiving by modern standards. Features allowing players to retry sections or reverse mistakes help make the games more approachable without completely changing their identity. Visually, the collection remains faithful to the original releases. Pixel art, simple animations, and retro design dominate the presentation. While modern players searching for graphical upgrades or large visual improvements may not find them here, the goal of the collection is preservation rather than reinvention. The visual style succeeds because it captures the charm and identity of the original releases without unnecessary alterations. There are some limitations that become more noticeable depending on player expectations. Some players may feel the collection would have benefited from additional historical content, developer information, or behind-the-scenes material to provide greater context surrounding the included games. Others may question the overall value if they have already experienced many of these titles in previous collections or releases. Despite these shortcomings, NAMCO MUSEUM ARCHIVES Vol. 1 succeeds because it understands its role. It is designed to preserve and celebrate classic experiences rather than transform them into something entirely new. The package creates an opportunity for longtime players to revisit familiar memories while also allowing newer audiences to understand the foundations of many gameplay ideas still present today. For players who enjoy retro gaming, arcade-style challenge, and collections that preserve important moments in gaming history, NAMCO MUSEUM ARCHIVES Vol. 1 offers a satisfying journey into the past. Beneath its simple presentation is a reminder that strong design ideas often remain enjoyable long after technology has moved forward. Rating: 8/10
10 out of 10 stars for Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti
This is worth it for the bizarre chibi Splatterhouse which is one of the best splatterhouse games. Unfortunately as others have said, this is a fairly bare bones affair. And these are all famicom versions of the games rather than arcade ports, which isn’t an issue but they aren’t very upfront about that
i had all these on my nintendo as a kid and its so cool to have them again
i would like to recommend Namco Museum Archives vol 1 to everybody.
I only got this game for Pac-Man Championship Edition
