The game is lovely with some powerful and grounded messages, and both the datable characters and NPCs are beautifully designed and voiced with interesting personalities, and each route makes you learn new details and points of view of the whole story. The relationship between the characters are very fun to explore as well.
The thing going on with Tiago and Gaueko is such a nice surprise.
The mythological background of each character is rather well explained and incorporated and I speak as someone who knew very little about these legends beforehand, and it's encouraged me to actually look them up. There are some fun little interactions and some of them give you harmless little achievements and I really love that. I also appreciate the inclusion and queer representation, like being able to choose your pronouns, having explicitly queer characters, and being able to finish as lovers or friends with characters of any gender. As a queer person this means a lot to me. I played the English version and had to look up a few non-English words, but it's fluid overall, and all the jokes and puns work really well. There are a few typos, instances of the same term being translated differently, and occasional mismatches (a few instances of character names and pronouns being mixed up, or details revealed on one route being referred to in another route where you don't learn about it (e.g.
Xana's traps being mentioned without anyone having fallen into it
), or previous choices not being reflected in the lines afterwards (e.g.
Bú saying you let another person in while you just peeked in by yourself
)), but nothing major. If I'm being greedy I'd love for the characters' tones to have more distinction, but that would be the cherry on the top. What I'd really love for the game to improve though, is that some lines are the same for all routes but actually work better for some characters than for others (for example
I find the “playing hard to get” line works significantly better on Tiago compared to Bú or Coru
), or some lines won't change whether you date the character or not (for example
Juana's “it's only been bearable for me” stays the same even when the bond is romantic; it's true that's in her personality but in an emotionally charged moment like that I'd find it nice if she spoke genuinely for once
.). It's a game that invites you to play all routes, and for that reason I'd love for it to have a bit more variation. All in all it's been a very pleasant experience; there's a lot of love put into this game and it shows. I'm glad legends are told in this form and that people are taking the time and effort to make VNs like this.
A story that keeps you guessing no matter who you romance and that gives you plenty of chances to choose your personality with meaningful consequences. There is even the option to choose to keep it friendly even if it is a romance game and I appreciate that understanding of platonic love being just as meaningful as romantic love. Loved the simple UI and the ability to hide it for screenshots and the meta humor sprinkled throughout to stop things getting too serious or education-like. It was a refreshing reminder of how the stories of old can interact with the present and thrive because of it. Never had an interest in Basque, Iberian, or Catalan legends prior to this but have walked away with a grander appreciation and a desire to keep playing to learn more.
What can I say? I went with the wolf. Otome players, give this one a go. Spanish mythical creatures. Very cute. Funny. Little spice. 39 ENDINGS. ti amo mucho tiago
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA SO CUTE
