The servers have been fixed and they are up again! This is a really nice adaptation of the game, and it's incredibly fun to play with friends. There's some small QOL stuff that would've really elevated it (Such as a more intuitive system for who gets to be the ghost/who gets to be a psychic, and being able to pick which colour you are), but the game works and is fun!
I love the board game and I like that this lets me play with friends online without all the setup. had a lot of issues with my game freezing and crashing last time I played but it may have been a pc issue. good value for the price and I have purchased it for a number of friends as well just to have more people to play with.
Mysterium is a thoughtful and atmospheric digital adaptation of the acclaimed cooperative board game, successfully translating its unique blend of deduction, imagination, and social interaction into an interactive video game format. Developed by Twin Sails Interactive in collaboration with Playsoft and published by Twin Sails Interactive, the game invites players into a haunted 1920s mansion where a restless ghost seeks justice by guiding a group of psychics toward solving the mystery of its untimely death. Rather than relying on dialogue or direct instruction, the experience is built around abstract communication, setting it apart from more conventional mystery or puzzle games. At the core of the gameplay is asymmetrical cooperation. One player assumes the role of the ghost, who is unable to speak or give explicit hints, and must instead communicate exclusively through surreal vision cards filled with evocative imagery. The remaining players, acting as psychics, interpret these visual clues to identify suspects, locations, and murder weapons. This mechanic transforms each session into a collaborative exercise in interpretation and shared intuition, where success depends less on strict logic and more on understanding how teammates think. The result is a game that feels deeply personal, as every group brings its own reasoning patterns and creative associations to the table. The pacing of Mysterium encourages discussion and debate. Each round prompts players to analyze the artwork, argue for different interpretations, and slowly narrow down possibilities based on consensus and gut feeling. These moments of conversation are where the game truly shines, often leading to surprising breakthroughs or humorous misunderstandings. While the game can be played solo with AI-controlled psychics, the experience is undeniably stronger with real players, especially when voice communication is involved. The shared “aha” moments and occasional misreads are central to its charm. Visually, the game leans heavily into mood and atmosphere. The art design is one of its strongest assets, with richly illustrated cards that feel dreamlike, symbolic, and open to interpretation. The mansion setting, menus, and interface are understated but cohesive, reinforcing the séance theme without distracting from the gameplay. The sound design complements this approach with subtle music and ambient effects that heighten tension without overwhelming the senses, making each session feel like a quiet descent into the supernatural. In terms of accessibility, Mysterium does require a brief adjustment period, particularly for players unfamiliar with cooperative board games or abstract deduction mechanics. The rules themselves are not overly complex, but the mindset they demand—thinking metaphorically rather than logically—can be challenging at first. For some players, this ambiguity is the game’s greatest strength, allowing for endless replayability and variation. For others, it may feel frustrating, as there is rarely a single “correct” interpretation of a clue, and progress can sometimes hinge on lucky guesses or shared intuition rather than clear reasoning. Replay value is bolstered by the wide variety of cards, scenarios, and player dynamics. No two sessions unfold in exactly the same way, especially when played with different groups. Additional content and expansions further enrich the experience, offering more cards and options for those who want deeper variety. Technically, the game runs smoothly and remains accessible on a wide range of systems, making it easy to recommend as a low-barrier multiplayer experience. Ultimately, Mysterium succeeds as a digital board game that prioritizes atmosphere, cooperation, and creative thinking over competition or complexity. It is best enjoyed as a shared experience, where interpretation and communication matter more than optimization or mastery. For players who enjoy social deduction, imaginative problem-solving, and collaborative storytelling, it offers a memorable and distinctive journey into mystery that feels just as engaging on screen as it does on a physical tabletop. Very fun! At first I was a very confused man making connections where there were none, then I was a ghost and have never been so frustrated and proud of my friends at the same time.
Servers are back!
Great with friends. It's clue but fully cracked. I feel you could take a drink every time you're wrong and you would die before the end of most games.
Nice boardgame but unfortunately some technichal issues in this online version.
