My Time at Portia: One of the Coziest Worlds I've Ever Visited
I never actually finished My Time at Portia, but I honestly don't think that stopped me from appreciating what makes it special. I spent a lot of time simply enjoying the atmosphere, getting to know the townsfolk, improving my workshop, and watching the town slowly grow. While many cozy games focus on farming, Portia made me fall in love with building instead.
🛠️ Building Instead of Farming
What immediately stood out to me was the workshop system. Instead of spending every day watering crops, you're gathering materials, smelting ores, cutting wooden boards, and assembling everything from simple furniture to massive construction projects for the entire town. Seeing new bridges, buildings, and machines appear because of your own work gives a satisfying feeling of progression that I didn't expect when I first started playing.
🌻 A Town Full of Characters
The biggest reason I kept coming back was the people living in Portia. Almost everyone has their own personality, daily routine, and little quirks that make the town feel alive. I found myself talking to the townsfolk even when I didn't really need anything from them. ...and then there's Ginger. Without spoiling anything, she was probably the character who stuck with me the most. Her story made me care about the people in Portia far more than I expected from a cozy crafting game. Combined with the colorful art style, relaxing music, and cheerful atmosphere, Portia became one of those games that was simply nice to spend time in.
⛏️ Exploring Beyond the Workshop
Whenever I wanted a break from crafting, I'd head into the abandoned ruins to search for relics and resources. Digging through old technology with the scanner never really got old, and exploring the combat dungeons added just enough variety to keep each day feeling different. I liked that the game constantly gave me something to do without making me feel rushed.
⚠️ Drawbacks
The game definitely shows its age in a few places. Occasionally, voice lines don't play correctly, animations can look a little awkward, and some late-game crafting projects ask for a lot of waiting while your machines slowly process materials. I also never reached the end of the story myself, so I can't really judge the later parts of the game. Even so, I enjoyed the journey far more than I expected.
🏆 Conclusion
I may not have finished My Time at Portia, but I spent enough time with it to understand why so many people love it. It isn't just about crafting better machines or expanding your workshop—it's about slowly becoming part of a welcoming little town filled with memorable characters. If you're looking for a relaxing game where building feels just as rewarding as making friends, My Time at Portia is absolutely worth your time.
Rating: 9/10
不好意思,真没玩下去。
Good game
I can not use xbox controller in this game on mac
The game is fun, once I figured out how to do everything. Totally addicted to this game!
For the record, I downloaded this game a couple years ago, and hated it. I went into it with the mindset of "I miss Harvest moon, and this game seems to be very similar, so let me try it out." I was looking for a game that itched the nostalgia that harvest moon does for me, and it didn't. I had played about 20 hours worth of playtime, and decided that was enough. The mining was buggy, I was overwhelmed with the commission system, and quite frankly, IT WASNT HARVEST MOON. Fast forward to about a week ago, I was on my search far and wide to find yet another game that scratched the itch that harvest moon left from my childhood. And Portia was here waiting for me in my steam library, gathering dust, panhandling for spare change. I took the bait. I decided to give it another shot, with a clear mind and an understanding that it IS NOT HARVEST MOON. I have added about 40 hours of game play within the past week, and let me tell you, I am not stopping anytime soon. The devs have done a wonderful job of updating the game and adding fixes and patches for any bugs. I think my only complaint is the amount of times I have to run to wikipedia to figure out tips and hints for different parts of the game (Gifts for NPCs, where to find certain materials for crafting, what resources I need to upgrade my work stations BEFORE going to the carpenter ((Come on, just let him pull the materials from my chests like the assembly station pls))) This game is so much fun, and I am so glad I decided to give it another shot. The challenge of keeping up with the commerce commissions, maintaining enough materials, and trying to precraft mats in anticipation of the big commissions has become a full time job that i dont want to clock out of. The grind of it makes it hard to leave my PC. Especially since you can only save when you sleep, so you can't leave in the middle of a day, and you also dont want to waste a day just to save and quit. I really like that when you make a friend, you also get friendship points with all of that persons close friends/family. The XP system is generous to say the least, offering over a thousand for just chopping down one mature tree. More to follow, I just had to come on here to say if you loved harvest moon or animal crossing, you will most likely love this game as well. Just be mindful that it is not the same game, but has a hint of nostalgia from both. The main goal of the game is taking commissions and crafting things for the town and its people, but the game play is loose, and you can be as task-oriented or not as you want. Some days I am grinding commissions, others I am foraging for supplies and upgrading my workshop, other days I am fishing and loving on my animals. TRY THE GAME!!
