Moss and Hollow Knight Vibes

- played on the PSVR2
Pretty fun little experience, can see this being completely lost on Steam for it's launch. Middle of the Steam Autumn Sale and no discount at launch doesn't make it very enticing. Locally this is for some reason a couple of pounds more expensive than the standalone version. Had tried the demo there before and wasn't fully satisfied with the framerate so was pleased to see a PC release. Should have played it on my Quest 3, but with the crunchy contrast the deep blacks of the PSVR2 fit well. Sadly you will have to go in and manually map the menu button. But rest assured just quitting the game will be fine as there seems to be generous autosaves. Performance is great and the game is clearly just a straight 1:1 from the standalone. Being very handmade, enjoyed all the animations one would see made with Quill. The novelty of it being a game is nice, the only shame I would say is the puzzles, movement and combat are pretty milquetoast. So don't expect Moss of flat levels of gameplay. Even things like the audio is noticeably compressed. The charm here is the handcrafted and naiive nature of the spaces. Enjoying and soaking up the atmosphere. I would probably recommend this on a sale though. Have gone through the first boss already with only two mcguffin's left. So likely probably only 3-5 hours at a push. Great adventure. Love the abstract stylized art style of the world and its creatures and characters. And fun lore mythology. Definitely worth playing 👍🏻
A little like Moss or Mixture, it's a third person VR action platformer. Like their previous game the model are made in VR (Quill perhaps?) so they have this interesting Painterly effect (like Retropolis or Vader immortal Dream sequences) I like the look is unique. The Gameplay is fine its mostly just some basic platforming with the POV "Watcher" moving some object to help Moti Jump around and some basic one button combo attacking with a dodge role, I have to say though the jumping and combat feel really stiff and just kind of unfun to move around with. Moti has this long hang time after his 3 attack combo I guess to make him vulnerable, but also it can be negated by the dodge which can interrupt, so I don't get it. Jumping has this sort of unnatural curve to it, it takes a little while to get used to. The Story is this kind of Emotion based thing Moti needs to defeat, Anxiety, Loneliness, and Fear. I can tell they wanted to tell this more “mature” story, but I have to say it doesn't really come across with the bosses that well they feel so basic in their exposition not really delving deep into these emotions, I do really like the Narrator and the story bits she delivers though. The game also took me just over 3 hours to beat.
