For an Early Access game, Moribund is at a complete state regarding its core gameplay mode. The content provided is more than enough to have fun with your friends, especially regarding the available levels. Moreover, I didn't encounter any bugs affecting the experience. Regarding gameplay, you may need 10 minutes to get a good grasp of the game. After a few matches the whole concept of immobilize, then execute the other players, becomes quite clear and shows its potential. You can come up with a lot of strategies as to how to eliminate the other players. Trying to escape by pressing continuously the A button is really rewarding when accomplished, but also infuriating if you are the executioner, which helps build a competitive atmosphere with your friends, and scream eventually in their faces. One of the most well done aspects of the game, is the level design. You can ambush or escape using multiple routes, while the traps are well thought out and add to the gameplay. It would be nice if the character's visual appearance popped out more. Some of the voice overs may need more work. I would like to see in the future team battles, more levels and traps. Generally me and my friends found the game quite fun and kept playing for more than a few hours. Fans of the genre should give it a try.

Moribund is what happens when a group of friends decide to shoot each other in a post-apocalyptic wasteland and laugh about it later. Developed by Traptics, this chaotic 2D arena shooter thrives in the sweet spot between “easy to pick up” and “rage-inducingly competitive,” offering a delightfully deadly twist on local multiplayer action. The core mechanic is both clever and brutal: players use a gun that first immobilizes opponents with a gooey fungal blast and then follows up with a charged harpoon shot to finish them off. The beauty lies in the tension between these two actions—one false move or poorly timed shot, and you're the one getting skewered. There's no filler here. No XP bars, no skill trees—just pure, frantic fun. Environmental hazards like sawblades, lava pits, and exploding barrels keep things spicy. Think Duck Game meets TowerFall, with a splash of The Last of Us’s fungal aesthetic. Moribund is unapologetically focused on local multiplayer. It supports up to four players in either free-for-all or team modes. It also offers a handful of single-player challenge levels, but let's be honest: this is a party game. The kind you boot up when your friends are over, snacks are on the table, and grudges are ready to be formed. It’s not all perfect—lack of online multiplayer limits its reach, especially in an era where couch co-op is more of a luxury than a norm. The art direction is grimy in a good way—post-apocalyptic, gritty, but not overwhelming. Character models are distinct and colorful enough to avoid confusion during frantic skirmishes. However, some of the darker stages can make it hard to see what's going on in the heat of battle. It's atmospheric, but clarity sometimes takes a hit. The soundtrack slinks along in the background, enhancing the dystopian mood without stealing focus from the action. Each of the eight playable characters comes with their own voice lines and personalities, adding a welcome bit of flavor. They're not deep, but they don’t need to be—this is a game about blasting your friends off platforms, not telling a grand narrative. Moribund won’t be your main game—but it could easily become your go-to “friends are over” title. With sharp mechanics, devious level design, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting, it scratches the same itch as the best party brawlers. It’s rough around the edges and limited in scope, but if you’ve got controllers, a couch, and a competitive streak, Moribund delivers a bloody good time. Great for local multiplayer sessions. Limited by lack of online support, but it nails the core of what it sets out to do. Rating: 7/10

Hi Traptics! (I was supposed to review this game so long ago I'm sorry it's so late) I played your game and initially started with keyboard controls but they go back and forth: if I'm using WASD, I can only move with the arrow keys so I switched to controller mode which made it so much easier to play. ***I read your update (where it's highly recommended to play with the controller) and I think that it's better to remove the keyboard controls image that flashes as the game starts altogether to make it less confusing. Also, it's kind of off-putting when you do the tutorials and you're immediately sent back to the main menu upon completion. It'd be much easier if after completion, it stays in the tutorial screen so it'd be easier to maneuver between practicing #1 and #2. I may just be too nitpicky, but I think it'd be more efficient. Where you choose the player is also inconsistent -- I'm either picking for Player 2 or Player 3 even if I'm playing by myself. The challenges are interesting and really force your mind to work under intensive time pressure. I was happy when I finally got Challenge 1 (maybe I'm just so much of a newb that I couldn't get it after 5 tries) but I also think it may drive others away from playing this game because I gave up, though I decided to give it another try. Mainly because I didn't really expect to play a pressuring game and I thought that I could take my time since it was only challenge 1, but then again this is mainly a multiplayer kind of game so I understand. I do like the art per character though, and I like the slight animations on them as well. The game has an interesting concept. I wouldn't recommend this game right now, but I hope that was helpful at least in some way :( I don't intend to hate on the game because I really see potential in it and I still found it enjoyable -- there just has to be a little more oomph. Hope all goes well in a new update!
Love this game so far...Hope you'll add multiplayer and offline bots in the future
A Local Multiplayer Action Arena
https://youtu.be/U5ETBppiWPY + Hilarious voice-acted mature taunts + Pretty fun and unique gameplay. You generally try to try to trap your opponents in "spores" which basically bind your opponent for a few seconds, and then you charge up and shoot them with a harpoon to finish them off. + Each arena changes after each round which adds a lot of variety and helps keep things interesting. + Although I only played with 1 friend, I feel like this game would be great fun with 4-players + Very gorey death animations This game is in Early Access so these are subject to change - No bots - You can not play this game alone / solo [Side Note: In the video above, I accidentally had the music turned off, forgot to check the options menu]
A Lets Play of Moribund was featured on my youtube channel http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=871546090 and now onto the review
TL;DR Review
Moribund is a local multiplayer post-apocalyptic 2D arena shooter with a strong emphasis on gore. -Gameplay- 1-4 fast paced local multiplayer game. The objective of the game is to be the first one to get to 10 kills. You get two guns, one that shoots some device that holds an opponent down by their tendons (like I said, strong emphasis on gore) and the other one is a harpoon that decapitates your opponent. Best played on a gamepad! -Graphics, Sound & Artstyle- Moribund takes a dark and ominous approach to their artstyle being that the setting is post-apocalyptic they take it a step further and with the element of gore, it really feels like an immersive universe. While I didn't care much for the constant talking or taunting. -Price- The retail price is 9.99 USD -How many hours estimated?- By far Moribund has been the most fun my crew has had filming. Even the people who lost wanted to keep playing. If multiplayer gets added i can easily see myself playing 30-40 hours minimum of Moribund. As it stands, it'll still get you a good 20-25 hours. -Buy it Now? Wait for Sale? Don't Buy?- As this is still in Early Access, there is much that has been promised to be added by the devs including a single player challenge mode, 20 more levels to the already ridiculous 80 levels. However the best experience to be had with Moribund is with 4 local players, which might be a stretch for most Steam users. If you have a couple of friends, and you love gore + fast paced arena action BUY IT NOW! Otherwise, wait till singleplayer gets added, even if the price is projected to rise a little. WAIT FOR SALE.
So, I finally got around to playing Moribund with another 3 friends and I'll just summarize this review in 3 words; Fun, Exciting, Bloody. It may feel redundant to say this, but these games reveal the depth and complexity of their gameplay once people familiarize themselves with the controls and start acting smart about that first place. Since this is an early Alpha we had the winner not pay for their order-out dinner which gave all of us the incentive to become competitive. Boy, did we enjoy ourselves. On the graphics department, the background landscapes are gorgeous and level design is up there with the best of the indie industry. As others have said, model visuals could stand a bit more so as to have more character, but it is no eyesore by any means. The gore is satisfying from the first to the last drop of blood and the ragdoll system is functioning as it should. Nothing could be more awesome than nailing the upper torso of your friend to a wall while he was dropping from a ledge. On the sound department, the game is accompanied at all times with a few background beats that don't seem to tire (though to be fair, playing with friends always seems to drain everything else but the frantic screams and flurries of "insults"). Pretty good loops overall. The Ambient sounds of the game are truly spot on as well, giving off a sense of dread, so you don't want to try if the door smashing on the ground will pulverise you or not. It will. The sound makes sure you understand that. The voice acting is functional at its worst and superb at its finest. Some of the lines will have you laughing at your friends face and in some cases mimicking the characters to bring further shame to your friends' skills. There are 1-2 characters that could use a redo, but hey, it's an alpha. And for the standards of an Alpha, this is more than just fine. I will try and keep it simple in the gameplay department. Depending on the competition and how quick of a learning group your friends are, this can have you playing for days on end. We promised we'd only play for 20 minutes or so and we couldn't get off our chairs. It's addicting because of the number of ways you can outsmart your opponents. One has to play the game to understand what I'm ranting about here, but there truly is so much you can do to achieve victory in a wild "cat vs dog vs cat" hunt, where even retreating can turn into a sudden offensive. It's simple, easy even to pick up and be able to play, but mastering it takes practice and a lot of joyful dismemberment experimentation on your friends' favourite characters. For the current pricing and the fact that this is an Alpha, this is a definite have for friend gatherings.
We recived a copy of Moribund from the developer of the game and they asked us to try it out, and I have to say we had a complete blast with this game. While I am not the best at writing reviews, you can check out our video to get our impressions with the game! https://youtu.be/8YjMSzr8-bM
