Moero Chronicle, developed by COMPILE HEART and IDEA FACTORY and published by Idea Factory International, is a dungeon-crawling role-playing game that fully commits to its unusual premise. Set in a fantasy world inhabited by humans and Monster Girls, the game follows Io, an unassuming young man who possesses a mysterious ability to charm these creatures. When Monster Girls across the continent suddenly become hostile, Io embarks on a journey to uncover the cause of the disturbance while gathering companions along the way. What begins as a simple adventure quickly transforms into a lengthy RPG packed with exploration, party customization, and a generous helping of anime-inspired humor. The game's biggest attraction lies in its classic first-person dungeon crawling. Players venture through labyrinthine environments, mapping pathways, collecting treasures, and engaging in turn-based battles. Fans of older dungeon RPGs will immediately recognize the familiar gameplay loop, but Moero Chronicle distinguishes itself through its extensive cast of recruitable Monster Girls. With more than fifty companions available, each possessing unique skills, passive abilities, and personality quirks, the game provides an impressive amount of variety when assembling a party. Experimenting with different team compositions becomes an enjoyable process, especially as new abilities and synergies emerge over time. Character progression is surprisingly robust. Every Monster Girl can be strengthened through equipment upgrades, skill enhancements, and affection-based systems that unlock additional interactions. The title's Moe Trait mechanics add another layer of strategy, rewarding players who carefully balance their party's strengths and weaknesses. Battles themselves are straightforward but engaging, often requiring players to target enemy vulnerabilities and manage resources during longer dungeon expeditions. While the combat does not reinvent the genre, it remains consistently entertaining thanks to the steady introduction of new enemies and abilities throughout the campaign. Visually, Moero Chronicle embraces its anime roots with enthusiasm. The character artwork is detailed and expressive, bringing its diverse cast to life with colorful designs inspired by various mythological and fantasy creatures. Voice performances further enhance the presentation, lending personality to companions who might otherwise be reduced to simple archetypes. Unfortunately, the same level of attention was not given to the dungeons themselves. Many environments feel repetitive after extended play sessions, relying heavily on recycled assets and familiar layouts. This lack of environmental diversity is one of the game's more noticeable shortcomings, particularly given the considerable amount of time players will spend exploring its many areas. It is impossible to discuss Moero Chronicle without acknowledging its heavy emphasis on fan service. The game openly incorporates suggestive humor, revealing character designs, and interactive mechanics that are clearly intended for a mature audience. These elements are not occasional additions but a central component of the overall experience. Players interested in the title should understand that its identity is built around this presentation style. Those who appreciate lighthearted anime comedy and exaggerated tropes will likely find the game's approach amusing, while others may consider it excessive. Regardless of personal preference, the developers deserve credit for maintaining a consistent tone throughout the entire adventure rather than attempting to disguise what kind of game they created. The story itself is serviceable, focusing less on dramatic twists and more on the interactions between Io and his growing collection of allies. While the narrative rarely reaches emotional highs, it succeeds in creating a pleasant sense of progression. Conversations between party members provide many of the game's memorable moments, and the relationship systems help establish a stronger connection to the cast. Combined with dozens of hours of gameplay, optional activities, and extensive character development opportunities, Moero Chronicle offers more content than its unusual premise initially suggests. Ultimately, Moero Chronicle is a game designed for a very specific audience. Beneath its provocative exterior lies a competent and content-rich dungeon crawler that respects genre traditions while embracing its own eccentricities. Its repetitive environments and modest storytelling prevent it from standing among the very best RPGs on the market, but its enjoyable progression systems, expansive roster, and commitment to its unique identity make it a worthwhile experience for players seeking something different.
ok, but a huge grind to 100%
bom
Complete and total degeneracy. Unforgiveable. This game will actually steal a small amount of your soul power for each individual second that you play. Completely brainless slap buttons move through battle screens take the girls' clothes off RUB THE GIRL... There truly is something to just slamming your way through a battle and hearing all of the loud, overlapping voices all cheering at the same time. At the very least, I do appreciate that this game knows exactly what it is, and it does not shy away from it, be ironic, or be disingenuine whatsoever. Commitment and authenticity matter when it comes to art. I like the dog girl... After 13 hours of playing I can confidently say that I like this game. It's dumb, the story is ridiculous, but there's a carefree sort of vibe that works. There were a few issues that became more apparent over the course of my time playing. There seem to be a lot of fire aura monstergirls, I could be wrong but it felt like there were too many compared to other auras. Also, once you kind of lock into a specific lineup it becomes difficult to swap out for new monstergirls. Some kind of system where you could maybe make multiple different parties and save them could be good to encourage trying new things. And the stats on certain monstergirls just didn't seem right, like some of them were just not very good with specific costumes in particular.
To paraphrase a previous review of another game from the same publisher... “Let’s start with the number one issue: This game would be unplayable if you couldn’t speed up combat with the right button.” Actually, that’s not the number one issue, but it is close. The number one issue is the rubbing mini-game, which is terrible. It’s just stupid and a distraction. Even if you are in the tiny minority who really want to rub anime girls, you have to admit the execution on PC is garbage. In fact, the entire Intimacy portion of the game is garbage. Every time you give a gift to a girl, if she likes it, then hearts appear and she says something and you can’t skip it. You can’t even give her another gift until the hearts disappear or she stops talking, WHICHEVER IS LONGER. If you are going for 100%, you will spend hours and hours of your life listening to these girls blathering on around 1,000 times. The game is far too grindy and the combat is not nearly engaging enough. The worst part of the grind was equipment. THERE ARE NO WEAPONS IN THE GAME!!! You can wear four pieces of equipment, but they almost exclusively improve your defence. Your base attacks never seem powerful enough to you either have to burn through your SP faster than you pay for potions to replenish it, or you have to just sit there speeding through the combat on automatic. You need to get aura combos to increase your rewards for fighting; however, even if you have the right element 100% of the time, it is still faster to use the auto combat feature and speed up the combat for much of the game Doing it manually with auras will take ten times longer for maybe 50% more reward. Later in the game, the certain mobs start getting dangerous abilities and you will want to use spells to attack them first, but that’s as engaging as the average battle gets. You get almost no new equipment and when you do, it very rarely is worth equipping. There’s a crafting system, but you don’t even get the mid-tier crafting material until after you beat the normal ending. Then the crafting system just broke and I just gave up trying to get good gear. This wouldn’t be that much of a problem if the story and characters made up for it, but hell no. How bad is the main character? There’s a button to shut him up during combat. I can’t remember what it is, because I hit it once and never looked back. I wish I could have made that damn seal shut up as well. To sum up, according to the achievements, less than half of the people who start the game finish the first chapter and less than 10% of those who do finish the first chapter get to see the true ending. This game is a test of patience and even fans of ecchi games should look elsewhere. I bought this game as part of a bundle for essentially 50 cents, and I’m still pissed off that I wasted my money.
