"Minion Raid: Epic Monsters" is a through and through desipcable mobile-tier cash grab that shouldn't exist on Steam in the first place. At it's core it's an extremely simplistic auto-battler: you place your minions on a grid, hit start and watch the battle unfold. And at that point that's all you can do as there's no way to influence the battle in any way. It's about as fun as watching paint dry especially thanks to the AI for ranged enemies which tend to flee, causing you to waste precious seconds while your melee fighter chases them. You can actually lose a battle due to that AI because you only have around 45 seconds to defeat all enemies. But of course you can - and will have to - upgrade your minions. This is mostly done with gold, which you get naturally from the campaign, but later on also with souls which you only seem to get through the "new game plus" mechanic. You can reset your progress at any time - preferably when you've actually made more progress than the last time - for a helping of souls and an increase in gold rewards. This also resets your minion upgrades which quickly becomes a problem as the new campaign is harder than the last and you won't have enough gold to upgrade them as far as before. The sole thing that doesn't reset are artifacts which can only be obtained and upgraded with souls, but they can only be used once you've collected enough duplicate minion cards. You can see where this is going, right? Yep, straight into the paywall which I hit around 40 minutes in. And you can be sure to get "special offers" at every corner. You'll be subjected to so many "buy this powerup bundle" ads it's insane. All the dark patterns in mobile game design apply here: - daily rewards: of course, and you'll also have to play quite a bit to actually unlock them every day - advertisements: a constant barrage of "buy this" and "you can get stronger with this" - grinding: yes, and pointlessly so because of the pay wall - play by appointment: the gold mine and other buildings need to be emptied after some time - gambling - minions are cards that can't be purchased directly, only via loot boxes - pay to skip - you can use "portals" to skip campaign levels and get the rewards anyway - artificial scarcity - "rare" or "limited" offers that expire - achievements - multiple stages with petty rewards - complete the collection - minions are cards and you can of course "collect them all". except you likely can't. - accidental purchases - the window opening after each battle peddling upgrades for gems is a good example and many more. There are supposedly "guilds" in the game - hey, even more dark patterns more likely - but at the time of writing not a single one existed, likely thanks to the 250 gems you'd have to spend to create one. Yes, even to get subjected to more social trash you're nickled and dimed. Fantastic. Payment does not work though Steam, by the way, but uses the publishers custom "Up-pay" system which opens in a browser window. Visually the game is the usual mobile fare. It's okay but some of the minions look rather creepy because they are constantly looking at you with a frozen grin. Of course the developer will respond with "oh, but you can get everything in-game just by playing" and that might be true in theory. But of course it's all by design that it will take you forever unless you pay. As the game is "free" it's your choice if you want to spend your time with it or not. Considering how preciously little actual gameplay there is - and how bad the monetization - I can't possibly recommend this one in good faith. Mobile app cash grab. The wall you hit where you can do nothing than wait or pay money to progress further hits pretty early. Also you need to pay for everything from faster monster battles to magic find and the game reminds you to spend money after every battle - very annoying.
Донатная помойка для мобилок, но не для Стим.
