pretty good, huge cliffhanger though
Meteor World Actor: Badge & Dagger is the sequel to Meteor World Actor, a Visual Novel that sadly never released on Steam. If you're at all interested in this one, play the previous game first - it will give you a lot of background context and it's an excellent VN, one of my personal favorites. I would not recommend playing it stand-alone, though - definitely play the first one. This sequel is a lot shorter than the first game - reading fast it only took me almost 6 hours to finish it. The first game in comparison took me probably about 20+ hours and has a lot of different routes, whereas this really only has two, one of which being the main route and one being a small side route. Even so, the writing and characters remain excellent in this sequel, with Ruka, the protagonist, being the same loveable rude dork with a heart of gold and everyone bullying Ruka for fun, with the overall story continuing his chase for the cult. The story overall doesn't move forward that much and it reuses most of the same music and sprites from the first game, making the game feel more like MWA Version 1.5 than a true sequel; but now that the third and final game is in development, we can hopefully get a conclusion soon. The ending is a major cliffhanger as well. Even so, if you liked the first game, this is a must-read. The writing is incredibly charming with it's witty back-and-forths between the characters, the world remains interesting and it sets up things nicely for the coming third game. A definite recommendation!
First off, this is a sequel to Meteor World Actor which you can easily find at other storefronts like Johren or JAST. Well I say sequel, but it's more of a half-step than a full blown sequel. The original has 3-4 common chapters and 4 routes (1-2 chapters each) whereas this one has 2 common chapters and 2 routes (kinda, common chapter 2 is essentially one of the routes). There is a 3rd game that only just recently released in Japan and will likely (hopefully) be translated into English within the next year or so. But that aside Meteor World Actor and Meteor World Actor: Badge & Dagger are both very fun novels held back a bit by some of the writing. My review will apply to both novels as they are roughly the same quality overall. First off, what the novels do well:

Characters MWA has one of my absolute favorite cast of characters in VNs. All of the main and secondary characters are extremely fun and Ruka is one of my favorite protagonists in the medium.
Dialogue The banter between characters, particularly when Ruka is involved is just outstanding.
Setting MWA takes place in an eclectic setting that is a mix of fantasy, cyberpunk, sci-fi, and noir. The worldbuilding can be just a bit weak, but what is presented mostly comes together in a really fun way.
Overall Plot The overarching plots of the novels are pretty good, and while I have some issues with the nitty gritty and how the novel navigates those plots, the actual main plots themselves are interesting.
Artwork The artwork, particularly the character artwork and CGs, is overall superb. There are a handful of tertiary or minor characters with some rougher art, but the main and secondary cast is really well realized.
Music The music is mostly a nice jazzy mix but there are a handful of tracks that are different or stand out. What Now!? is a very fitting track for the more comedic moments and made me laugh when "that" vocal kicks in.
As for the novels' weaknesses:

Pacing This is the main problem with the novels and honestly the other listed issues are mostly symptoms or aspects of the overall pacing problem. The novel will range from spending FAR too much time on things it shouldn't and as a result will absolutely ZOOM through events that need more focus to really flesh out.
Romance The romantic scenes are not bad themselves, and the H-scenes are all fairly well done. The issue is that the romances are almost universally shoved in at the last minute, highly concentrated, and rushed through. They aren't given time to form and develop naturally and they aren't really integrated with the story happening around them very well.
Filler Subplots There are a few too many subplots that take up an inordinate amount of script for their actual plot relevance. In addition there are numerous minor subplots that start, and then are nearly immediately resolved or circumvented and served no real purpose.
Action Scenes The action scenes can feel very rushed or lopsided, with a paragraphs upon paragraphs of pre-battle observations, dialogue, or planning and then the actual fight is over in a sentence or two and all the buildup just feels a bit wasted. The writing around the action can also feel a bit too... Shonen anime-y for my taste.
Overall the MWA novels are probably my favorite B-tier visual novels at this point. They've definitely got some flaws but they're still good fun and have genuinely really great characters.
A short yet amazing sequel to the first entry. Obviously, it inherits some weaknesses of the first, like a lack of development for some characters, and weak heroines’ routes, but they don’t diminish my love for the series. Also, I do like the relationship of Ruka with the heroines feels more mature than the heroines from the first installment, as it would make more sense for someone like Ruka to develop romantic attraction starting with physical compatibility than gradual fondness. If there is something which I consider a minus, then it’ll be the redesign of some characters, especially Ryoko whom I feel less alluring than before.
