Look, I've actually played a lot longer than 11 minutes, but a quirk in how the devs set the game up means it shows as only playing a tiny fragment of the actual time played. I don't know my actual play time here either. What I do know is I've more or less finished the game before last I recall (it's been a while) and the game is a short (more like 30 minutes to an hour short, not 11 minutes short) but fun arcade-ish... rail shooter thing? I dunno, this game isn't a racing game like it sounds like it is! Does involve driving though, and does have steering that works more like an old arcade racer like Pole Position where the turns more-so push you left and right and "turning" kind of more-so makes you strafe. The game plays far better for it. Oh yeah, and this game is also known for being very, very funny. You've probably already heard about that, but I'm going to second it. Also the thing I like most about this game is actually the world-building myself. Despite the short runtime of the game, you can learn... quite a lot about the world the game takes place in from paying enough attention to some of the details in it. A world that's equal parts awe-inspiring and utterly horrible, somehow. I dunno I could write like a whole essay on this game but I won't, I'm just hitting recommend, saying it's good, saying it's weird and worth your time, saying it's funny and shockingly well written, and moving on.
Nostalgic❤️.
1994 model araba yarışı ama günümüzde oynanması mümkün değil derecede kötü bi yapısı var
Un juego muy entretenido
what a wild ride
MegaRace 1 is a striking artifact from the early CD-ROM era, a game that feels less like a conventional racer and more like an interactive television spectacle wrapped around vehicular combat. Developed by Cryo Interactive in collaboration with the Jordan Freeman Group and published by Microids, it embraces a bold, experimental design philosophy that was emblematic of the mid-1990s, when developers were eager to fuse full-motion video, arcade action, and futuristic aesthetics into something that felt unmistakably new. Playing it today, especially through its Steam release, feels like stepping into a time capsule that preserves both the ambition and the limitations of that period. At its core, the game presents racing as a deadly televised competition, where the goal is not simply to finish first but to eliminate every rival on the track. The races unfold along pre-rendered courses, with the player’s vehicle locked into a forward path and only allowed to shift laterally, accelerate, or brake. This on-rails structure is a direct consequence of the game’s reliance on FMV and pre-rendered environments, and it fundamentally shapes how the experience feels. Instead of precision cornering or racing lines, success depends on timing, positioning, and efficient use of weapons. The result is something closer to a rail shooter than a traditional driving game, which can feel restrictive by modern standards but was a creative workaround for the technological constraints of its time. Combat is central to every race. Opponents are aggressive and persistent, forcing players to constantly juggle offense and survival. Missiles and other weapons are limited, encouraging careful targeting rather than reckless firing. Environmental hazards and track items add unpredictability, sometimes helping the player and sometimes sabotaging them. Each race operates under strict conditions: all enemies must be destroyed within a set number of laps, or the player is forced to restart. This design creates a high-pressure loop where memorization and repetition play a large role, gradually teaching players where threats will appear and how best to respond. What truly distinguishes MegaRace 1 from its peers is its presentation. Between races, the game cuts to full-motion video segments hosted by the fictional announcer Lance Boyle, whose exaggerated personality and sarcastic commentary define the game’s tone. His presence transforms the experience into a parody of extreme futuristic game shows, blending campy humor with a sense of spectacle. While the acting and dialogue can feel over-the-top or awkward today, they also give the game a strong identity. Few racing titles before or since have leaned so heavily into this kind of live-action framing, and it remains one of the most memorable aspects of the experience. Visually, the game shows its age, but in a way that is inseparable from its charm. The pre-rendered tracks are colorful and imaginative, depicting sci-fi cities, alien landscapes, and stylized industrial zones that still convey a sense of scale despite their low resolution. Vehicle sprites and explosions are simple by modern standards, yet they integrate smoothly with the backgrounds, creating a cohesive visual language. Rather than striving for realism, the game embraces a stylized, almost cartoonish vision of the future, which helps it remain readable and distinctive even decades later. The audio design reinforces this futuristic tone. A pulsing electronic soundtrack drives the action forward, lending energy to races and helping mask the repetitive structure of the gameplay. Sound effects are bold and unmistakable, from weapon launches to crashes, while the host’s commentary punctuates successes and failures with theatrical flair. Although the audio can become repetitive over long sessions, it plays a crucial role in maintaining the game’s momentum and personality. From a modern perspective, MegaRace 1 is undeniably limited. The control scheme offers little freedom, the challenge curve relies heavily on trial and error, and the overall experience can feel repetitive once the novelty wears off. Players accustomed to modern racers or vehicle combat games may struggle with its rigidity and lack of depth. However, these shortcomings are also part of what defines the game historically. It represents a moment when developers were experimenting boldly, prioritizing presentation and concept over refined mechanics. Ultimately, MegaRace 1 endures less as a competitive racing experience and more as a cultural snapshot of an experimental era in game design. Its fusion of FMV, arcade combat, and satirical presentation gives it a cult appeal that goes beyond pure gameplay quality. For players interested in the history of video games, retro aesthetics, or unconventional design, it offers a fascinating and occasionally entertaining journey into a time when the future of gaming felt wildly open and unpredictable. Rating: 6/10
It hasn't aged well at all. Definetely clunky and the graphics are not pretty. On the other hand, they used to run on a 486, so what would you expect? Is mostly for the nostalgia and historical value. What certainly is still enjoyable are the host cutscenes. Absolutely awesome character.
The racing part is abysmal. This game came out as the first Need for Speed. But the weird FMV just sell it for me.
Lance Boyle. Non aggiungo altro.
