It's cool but success is very luck dependent and I don't have the same youngin' excitement anymore that allowed me to 100% the binding of isaac
fun
This game is a perfectly even cross between Vampire Survivors and Risk of Rain 2 From Vampire Survivors we get: Your character auto-attacks, you collect XP from fallen enemies to level up, and pick a new weapon or passive item (or level up the ones you have) with each level, limited slots for said weapons and passive items, timed waves of enemies and minibosses with a soft time limit for each level (though at the end of this time limit, instead of a single, extremely powerful enemy spawning, it starts spawning an endless wave of increasingly difficult enemies). From Risk of Rain 2 we get: The 3d perspective, limited sized procedurally generated maps with numerous randomly spawned points of interest including: chests that cost money to open (the cost increases with each chest, enemies drop money), and grant a different class of passive items (different from the ones you get by leveling up), various totems that affect the level (like by spawning bonus waves, extra bosses, extra items, etc), totems that require you to stay within a range of them to charge them, that grant passive buffs when charged, a boss totem that is required to beat each level, multiple levels per run, and rarities for all buffs and items that affect how powerful they are. Overall, the characters, movement, items and weapons are all satisfying. There is a variety of different builds to try and lean into. I'd say I never felt as brokenly OP as you do at the end of a good RoR2 run or late game in VS, but you still get pretty powerful. Its a very solid, if somewhat short, experience. I think the game would benefit most from adding multiplayer, and it left me wanting more (not a bad problem to have), though at $10, its absolutely worth it as it is now if you like either of the above games.
This game's sense of humor is genuinely cringe-inducing, and actively ruins any semblance of tone it otherwise had. It's the first thing I brought up because it's unfortunately the most memorable thing about this game. There's honestly not much else to talk about anyway; it's boring and sometimes frustrating not being able to control where I'm shooting, the gameplay loop is generally unsubstantial and luck-dependent, and I can already tell the overall content is sorely lacking. I can't deny it's pretty reliable at delivering that low-maintenance dopamine, but let's be so real... there's nothing else it really has to offer.
