_____________8__88_____8 ____________88_8__8_____8 ___________888_____88___88888 __________8888______88_8____88 _________8888_______88______8_8 _________8888_______88______8_8 _________8888_______8_______8 _________8888_____8_______8 __________88888____8______8 ___________8888888______8 __888_________88888_8 8888888________88_____ _8888888_______8_____ __888888_______88_____ ___88_____8_____8_____ ____8______8____8_____8_88 _______8888_8__88_8_88888 _____888888_8_88__8888888 ____8888888__88______88888 ____88888_____8_________888 ____88_________8__________8 _____8_________8_____ _______________8_____ ____________8_8_____ _____________88_8_____ ______________88_____ ______________8_____

It's a bot... in a maze...
In a strange abandoned factory is the setting where MazeBot takes place...an empty environment with an enigmatic AI that uses you only for experiments and tests....yes, it follows the same premise as Portal while using early IBM CGA graphics. The gameplay follows a system similar to your attacks in Undertale, where you have to properly time your hits...but with each pass, the goal to hit gets smaller...if you miss, you get hit, if you hit a specific range, the enemy gets a critical on you...land on a white area and take advantage...but it's easier said than done. This game is actually quite easy and shouldn't take you longer than 30 minutes to complete. There's light puzzles that mostly involve combat timing, but not too much else. It's a nice find to sit down with for a bit, but you will need some proper planning to get your 100% in the first go. Give it a try if you have a spare half hour! 6/10 Not really a-maze-ing....but it's nice.
Mazebot is a 2.5D/isometric retro "maze" action game where you must run through each level as quick as you can. The game featurs portal and timing/rhythm puzzle elements, and is presented with 4-colour CGA graphics. It's 2022 and the industry has moved along a great deal since PCs were limited to 4 colour displays (heck, even the Commodore 64 and VIC20 of the same era had more colours, there's really no excuse with modern hardware today). This is presumably deliberate, the game was made to look bad and obsolete on purpose, which is funny for about 0.5 seconds, nostalgic for about 0.3 seconds, and after that, just a deficient throwback. You can't go home again, and you shouldn't want to either. Resolution and controls are locked, so there's no way to improve the visuals in the game or the handling. While this might have been considered a pretty good game in 1980, it's the year 2022. Can't stress that enough. The game is completely free. Nothing speaks more to a developers belief in themselves and their product than making their game available for everyone without remuneration. This is certainly a gesture that shows dedication to the gaming industry. It's a shame in this case that the implementation is below the minimum standards a dedicated PC game should offer to enthusiasts. There's no "maybe" option in Steam, unfortunately, but I hope to see more work from this developer, perhaps as part of a professional game development company that can make full use of their talents without needing to make budget/quality compromises like using retro "art" as a copout, instead of modern visuals.
overall it's alright for free.
