Can we talk about how good the soundtrack is? The cutsscenes? Mastering that Ninja Gaiden style. The gameplay is fun enough, but more than anything this is a perfection of a genre.
The game requiring too many pixel perfect precision jumps. It's not a fun game.
It's a pretty decent game that is fun to play in short bursts. The presentation and music are fantastic, and easily the highlight of Master Spy. Play on novice for what normal people would consider a fairly hard game. Operative difficulty and up is for crazies that have memorized the levels and have picture-perfect inputs. Even on novice the game can get pretty frustrating. I eventually beat it, but it's not the kind of game I would play all the way through multiple times. Luckily, you can choose your stage and change your difficulty on the fly, so there is some replayability. If you like the aesthetic I'd recommend grabbing it during a sale.
the controls feel stiff, they don't make me want to push through the hard level design. in that way it does feel as it looks, retro
Honestly one of the most amazing games I've ever played. Really simple gameplay controls and design but you learn to do do so much to manipulate the enemy behaviour and navigate the world. You really feel like you're building up skills the more you go through the game, and challenges that seem insurmountable become almost second nature by the time you acclimate to them. Super awesome soundtrack to and really unique visuals. And on top of it it's a very unique game design. This doesn't use the platforming of a Flashback/Out of This World or Prince of persia. I was really glad I picked this up and played it and I think it's really worth checking out and trying if you like challenging action/twitch game experiences. And to everyone speaking to difficulty, it is difficult but it's also very rewarding. Like written above you'll encounter obstacles that seem impossible but if you keep trying you'll eventually push through because you the player figured it out.
7/10
Pros: artstyle, soundtrack, and general tightness of the controls. There's a good stealth platformer idea here. Cons: Less a difficulty curve, more a difficulty mountain range that peaks and valleys at irregular intervals. Less a stealth game, more a precision platformer, emphasis on precision. Enemies spot you quicker than they turn around, but it's really about the timed jumping and use of your cloak. Play at your own risk. Mark of the NInja or Shadow Tactics, this is not
