for a pretty short game its really good,i like the artstyle and how the gameplay wasnt complex
This game is short but surprisingly deep and fun to play. The story, writing, and visuals are amazing. The gameplay is pretty darn good, for such a short game. Overall, it's a fantastic experience.

超好玩!超可爱!
This is a nice game with a lovely style. Controls ruin it a bit, because gameplay feels really awkward. Also, no save feature. Other than that this is a cute short platformer.
this game made me kill the pope 7.95/10
Before I played Mason and Strings, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
Mason and Strings is a cheerful 2D puzzle-platforming adventure that combines exploration, music, lighthearted storytelling, and environmental challenges into a compact experience. Developed and published by In The Snow Studios, the game follows an aspiring musician named Mason and her unusual companion, Strings, a living guitar that doubles as an important gameplay tool. Rather than relying on combat or complicated progression systems, the adventure focuses on traveling through colorful locations, meeting eccentric characters, collecting music sheets, and gradually developing Mason's musical abilities. The story revolves around Mason's ambition to improve her guitar skills and eventually perform at the Castle Concert. It is a straightforward objective, but it provides enough motivation to carry the player through Hub City and its surrounding locations. Strings gives the journey much of its personality, functioning simultaneously as Mason's companion, instrument, and means of interacting with the environment. The relationship between music and gameplay is one of the game's strongest ideas because the guitar is not simply included as a visual theme. It actively influences traversal and puzzle solving. Exploration takes players across several handcrafted 2D environments, including areas with distinct themes such as the Dust Yard and Arpeggio Cove. Hub City serves as the central setting and contains a sizable cast of unusual inhabitants, ranging from humanoid personalities to sentient musical instruments. Talking with these characters adds humor and personality to the adventure while also providing requests that encourage players to investigate different parts of the world. The relatively small scale makes exploration manageable, although players expecting a huge interconnected platforming world should keep their expectations modest. Platforming is generally approachable rather than punishing. Mason can move through environments while using Strings as a grappling tool to reach platforms and navigate obstacles. This mechanic adds a welcome layer of mobility and prevents traversal from being limited to conventional running and jumping. The controls and challenges are designed more around steady exploration than demanding precision, making the experience suitable for casual players. Those who enjoy extremely difficult platformers may find the challenge fairly mild, but the relaxed difficulty complements the game's friendly atmosphere. The Chord Wheel provides another interesting gameplay element. Players can select different guitar chords and use them during various situations, connecting Mason's musical development directly to puzzle solving. This is a particularly fitting design choice because learning music becomes something the player participates in instead of merely something described by the story. The puzzles themselves tend to prioritize accessibility over complexity, so they rarely become frustrating. Their main appeal comes from discovering how Mason's musical abilities can interact with the environment. Collecting music sheets forms an important part of progression. These sheets are scattered around Hub City and can be earned by completing puzzles and helping characters with their requests. This structure gives players a reason to explore carefully rather than simply moving from one platforming section to another. Completing tasks for residents also makes the supporting cast feel more connected to the overall adventure. The collectible-driven structure is uncomplicated, but it fits a game intended to provide a concise and relaxing experience. The presentation reinforces the playful nature of the adventure. Its colorful 2D artwork, expressive characters, and musical identity create an inviting atmosphere without requiring elaborate graphics. The mixture of living instruments and unusual personalities gives the world an eccentric quality that helps distinguish it from more conventional platformers. Music is naturally important to the experience, and the soundtrack contributes significantly to the game's upbeat character. There are some limitations. The overall adventure is relatively modest in size, and players looking for dozens of hours of content will probably finish everything sooner than they would in a larger platformer. Puzzle complexity remains fairly light, while experienced players may find the platforming insufficiently demanding. Controller support is also partial rather than fully integrated. These shortcomings are easier to accept considering the game's free-to-play nature and its focus on providing a smaller independent adventure. Steam Deck compatibility should be approached with some caution. The game does not have a prominent official Steam Deck Verified or Playable classification, so it is best considered Unverified for Steam Deck. Its lightweight 2D presentation and modest PC requirements suggest that performance demands should not be particularly severe, but the absence of an official compatibility rating means handheld users may encounter control, interface, or configuration issues. Players specifically purchasing or installing it for Deck use should therefore expect that some manual adjustments could be necessary. Mason and Strings ultimately succeeds through personality rather than scale. Its combination of musical puzzles, grappling-based movement, collectible music sheets, quirky characters, and colorful environments gives the adventure a coherent identity. The mechanics are simple and the campaign is not especially demanding, but almost every major element supports Mason's journey toward becoming a better musician. It is an appealing option for players who enjoy relaxed platforming experiences where exploration and charm matter more than mechanical difficulty. For a free independent game, there is a respectable amount of creativity on display. The living guitar concept could easily have been little more than a storytelling gimmick, yet Strings is incorporated into traversal and puzzle mechanics in ways that give the adventure its defining character. Players seeking a demanding or expansive platformer may leave wanting more, but anyone interested in a short, friendly musical journey should find plenty to appreciate. Rating: 6/10
