For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. Very good. Some puzzles, some drawing and crafting, nice narrative - and you get a neat game! Not super, but quite a solid VR experience. Recommend, I played it with interest to the end.
Maskmaker is one of those VR experiences that feels carefully sculpted rather than simply assembled, inviting you into a world where craftsmanship, ritual, and quiet mystery blend into a cohesive journey. From the opening moments, you step into the role of an apprentice entering the workshop of a legendary Maskmaker, a place filled with wooden frames, pigments, carving tools, and arcane instructions. The game wastes little time introducing its central idea: masks are more than decorative objects — they are gateways to distant realms, each connected to a specific identity and culture. This premise becomes the heartbeat of the entire adventure, giving the narrative a sense of magical realism that feels both intimate and expansive. The mask-making process itself is one of Maskmaker’s defining strengths, and it demonstrates how effectively VR can elevate tactile interactions. Using your hands to chisel shapes, apply paint, attach ornaments, and assemble each mask brings a physical satisfaction that no traditional controller-based game could replicate. Every finished mask becomes a key to entering a new region, but also a personal artifact, something you crafted with intention. Returning to the workshop repeatedly, building mask after mask, reinforces a pleasing rhythm: investigate a world, gather materials, decipher a design, then construct the very item that will let you progress deeper into its mysteries. It feels like slipping into an artisan’s routine where creativity becomes a form of exploration. Once you leave the workshop, Maskmaker reveals a rich series of biomes, each designed with atmospheric precision. Forests draped in fog, sunlit coastal cliffs, labyrinthine caverns, frozen ruins, and swamp-like dreamscapes all unfold with a painterly quality that gives the world a gentle melancholy. These locations are not bustling or filled with combat; instead, they feel abandoned, suspended in time, as though you’ve arrived long after their former inhabitants vanished. The stillness makes every detail meaningful — the echoes of past ceremonies, the empty homes, the shrines built around strange ritual masks. Traversing each region becomes a meditative experience, a slow unraveling of a world steeped in cultural fragments and forgotten stories. The progression through these realms is centered on puzzle-solving and observation rather than action. You often use a spyglass to spot masked figures in the distance, then replicate their mask designs in your workshop to inhabit their bodies and explore areas inaccessible to others. This mechanic creates a layered form of navigation — you explore both as yourself and through the identities you borrow. These shifts in perspective give Maskmaker a distinctive puzzle structure, making you think not just in terms of doors and keys, but in terms of roles, symbols, and the cultural importance of masks in each biome. Narratively, the game unfolds quietly but steadily, using environmental storytelling and voice-over fragments to build toward a larger revelation about your enigmatic mentor and the mysterious Prospero, whose presence lingers over every realm you visit. The story doesn’t rely on dramatic twists or heavy exposition; instead, it invites reflection through mood, ambience, and the slow accumulation of clues. Themes of identity, artistry, mentorship, and legacy gradually emerge, giving the experience emotional resonance without overwhelming the player with dialogue or cutscenes. Maskmaker’s story feels like a fairy tale told in soft tones, one that relies on mood rather than momentum. While the game excels in atmosphere and immersion, it does have limitations. The mask-crafting loop, while engaging, eventually risks becoming repetitive, especially as later designs require gathering multiple materials across large maps. Some puzzles are elegantly designed, but others feel too straightforward, breaking the sense of discovery with moments that border on routine. Players hoping for intricate mechanical challenges or substantial action elements may find the pacing too gentle. The structure is linear, and despite the beautiful environments, exploration is mostly guided rather than open-ended. These constraints don’t break the experience, but they do place Maskmaker firmly in the realm of contemplative adventure rather than dynamic gameplay. Despite these limitations, Maskmaker succeeds brilliantly at what it sets out to do: create an immersive, emotionally rich VR experience rooted in artistry and quiet discovery. It emphasizes presence over spectacle, subtlety over intensity, and craftsmanship over combat. For players who approach VR as a space for creative interaction, environmental storytelling, and atmospheric journeys, Maskmaker stands out as an elegant and memorable adventure. Even after the final mask is completed and the story reaches its conclusion, the echo of its worlds — the soft hum of the workshop, the distant masks watching from cliff sides, the sense of touching a forgotten tradition — lingers long after you leave the headset behind. Awesome short game with whimsy riddles. The graphics are lovely and the mask mechanic really cool. Surprisingly good voice acting and interesting story. The moving around has different modes, depending how easily you get motion sickness. Worked well with the quest 2. Can’t wait to finish it!
I don't usually play these sort of games. I'm more into violent VR shooters or medieval VR dungeon crawlers. However, for this game I make an exception, because it's cleverly designed and all of the parts, from exploring, the narrative, world design and the unique ability to possess characters all work together to bring you a really nice childhood experience. I've tried other VR puzzle-type games and they usually just bore me due to a loss of interest, but this one captures you into the journey it sets up for you and there's just enough mystery to make you want to keep going. This is a game for all ages. P.S. I'm probably not even half way through yet, but I wanted to drop my opinion whilst the game is still on sale.
I had a lot of fun playing this. You can tell it was made with love. Full of puzzles and crafting, my favourite part of any games. 10/10 would recommend
Maskmaker is a very promising VR game built around some genuinely innovative ideas. The puzzles are solid, with a few standout moments. Especially the one that requires you to pose, which felt creative and immersive. I also really appreciated the freedom to craft your own mask, as it allows artistic expression and personal involvement. That said, I may be judging the game a bit too harshly here, but I did find some parts of it a bit repetitive, because much of the progression basically revolves around collecting new trinkets and mask components. I also wish the game had explored its promising ideas more deeply. Even so, I might be expecting too much. This game remains a very unique and distinctive VR experience, and its creativity alone makes it stand out in the genre.

6/10 - Acceptable, Mostly story driven, simple puzzle VR. around 4 hours to finish. the Good, VR mechanics works, visuals are good, nice voice acting. the Bad, Only few real puzzles, and most are just follow through, easy. it's mostly running around obtaining materials for the mask. Decorating the masks are simple, but is it enjoyable? is questionable. the Ugly, Overall, well made game, just that the story is ... a meh, old, dry tale, just not exciting or fun. But at current cheap price, Definitely worth it.
