PRO - the plot engaged me and I wanted to see where it was going - a bit of social criticism - I liked the humor of some characters, they don't take themselves seriously and there is often a breaking of the fourth wall - there are many quotes AGAINST - the game is a technical mess - it's poorly optimized, even though I have a PC SIGNIFICANTLY higher than the recommended requirements, I often have frame drops, in some areas I don't exceed 40 fps - the camera moves in a weird way - some missions are buggy - there are several graphical glitches - in some places the textures move when you walk - the animations are weird, especially the combat ones - several achievements are buggy - TOO MUCH dialogue, person 5 vibes - no walkthrough on the internet (except for the first hour), so if you get stuck and don't know how to proceed, good luck. (I know this isn't really a game fault, but I wanted to point it out anyway) In short: I liked the plot but the game is a technical mess So if you're wondering why a positive review with so many negative points, it's because I don't want to contribute to sinking this game and their small team and because i got it in sale for just 2 euros, the game entertained me for a few days and it made me smile on multiple occasions, and for that price it's enough. EDIT: this was initially a positive review. I wrote the review about 1 hour before finishing the game. Now i've finished it and i have to add something. The only 2 things i liked of this game was plot and humor, i was keep playing this game only for those, but the game ends with a cliffanger (i assume it will be revealed in a future dlc or in WTD 2) so... no. Just no.
it is very bugged at the moment displaying wrong language and no way to change it also no resoloution settings
It's a technical mess. * Soft-locked in tutorial, had to load the autosave to continue playing * One of the missions asked to collect 3 items. Collected, can't complete the mission * Fall damage present with wonky movement - a recipe for disaster (dying to this helped me solve the quest issue above, though) * Camera movements feel off, especially vertical * Attacking and moving around during battles is not what you'd expect from similar battle types. Target acts poorly --- I will probably try and play it again sometime. But was it not a bundle purchase, I would refund and forget it instead.
If you grew up dealing with broken games that you or your parent's hard-earned money paid for and were not able to return so you were stuck with it... this will bring back that sense of enjoyment of having to deal with and finding some fun in those janky games. At first glance, this game looks colorful, casual and super silly, so these attributes give players the impression of being fun to play. Well, maybe yes, but mostly no. It is ridiculously janky that most casual players will just give up long before dealing with the technical bugs and some very odd game design choices (questionable environment design, confusing puzzles). The game does a passable job at explaining most mechanics, but you will need to find out how to use mechanics properly on your own or by accident - the wonder of self-discovery! Bugs are plenty, which will be where most of the frustration comes from. Whether it is a bug in the waypoint placement, the combat hit boxes, the quest submission, item interactions or the game soft-locking requiring a restart, there are lots of bugs to discover! However, all the complaining about bugs aside, the story voiceovers are pretty good and the story itself is very silly which is what keeps me going rather than giving up - I have considered giving up fighting through the bugs plenty of times during my ongoing playthrough, yet somehow I am still playing. Overall, I do not recommended spending lots of money on this if you are still inclined to try it, but be aware that most people will not see what I have found fun while dealing with the technical issues. Thus far, I have not found a bug I could not overcome, which is where some of the fun I have found in this game has come from (stockholm syndrome? masochistic tendencies?).
No, absolutely not. I got this game for a dollar, and I still feel scammed! It's easier to say what's done right in this game, than what's bad (which is most of it). The idea is decent, and so is the voice acting, aaaand that's it! Combat is passable when it connects, but most of the time it is bad. Movement in general is bad, and feels like it's the work of amateurs, with all due respect to the devs, but it is REALLY that bad. I have to unfortunately say, don't bother with this game, could have been decent, but the lack of experience SHOWS.
I really, really want to like this game, the basic ideas behind it are interesting and the writing is good enough to make me want to keep watching the trainwreck that is the protagonist's life when normally I'd consider him too obnoxious to care about. Unfortunately the game is an unplayable mess. The fire walls that are clearly meant to funnel you through the tutorial are full of holes you can use to escape the path, ranged enemies are able to evade all of your attacks except the duck dash by just slowly walking backwards and to the side, the tutorial boss decided to stand on thin air 2 stories high which made it impossible for me to hit him until I abused a different glitch with the duck dash to just fly continuously, I got softlocked right after the tutorial boss because I talked to the quest NPCs in the wrong order (I was supposed to talk to the one at the house then the one at the corpse, never mind that the corpse is in front of the house), and oh yeah the game straight-up crashes to desktop every 30 minutes or so. I hope the dev is able to patch the bugs and get the game into a playable state, because the ingredients for a great game are all here.
I had a lot of fun with this game... but for the wrong reasons. Language randomly turning to portuguese, dropping through the map, player becoming invisible, actions (like jump) not available anymore until reload, water disappearance, buggy achievements and many more.
It's quirky, playful, silly, includes a smol duck that is very smol, and it hurts to say that this game was a bad experience. It gets a positive review because there aren't many 3D action RPGs with these vibes, but this felt not good to play. The studio must have run out of funding, because there was too much ambition and heart to assume they would release it in this state otherwise. I'm gonna write a list. It's not a pros or cons list, just a list.
Just a List:
- The character designs are pretty neat. - Some of the environments are nice. Good color choices. - The music is...okay...except for that first area. - The duck is PERFECT. I'd buy this game full price for that duck. - dedicated "quack" button. - Controls are constantly breaking. Your inputs either don't register or behave completely unpredictably. - Characters or cameras often get stuck between animations/transitions and bug out hard. Or the game crashes. - It's good that there's autosave because you're probably going to reload saves a lot. - You're constantly fighting to move your character anywhere. Crossing any walkable surface is always a new experience of frustration. - It has the foundation for excellent combat and platforming with some clear inspiration from Kingdom Hearts, like you can see what it could be, but it just isn't. - Combat is unbalanced. the player can be stun-locked or bombarded by attacks super easily, enemies are damage sponges, but then bosses are also a bit too simple outside of some frustrating mini-game style mechanics. - There's no level system so combat never really felt worth it aside from the material drops. - It sucks that the combat feels bad because there really are a lot of systems at play here. Every weapon has unique abilities and play styles and there are quite a few weapons to craft. You can inflict elemental status ailments, and ailments can be combined for unique damage bonuses. - The English translation is very inconsistent. Sometimes it's good, the jokes land, and the dialogue flows...and then moments later it becomes completely incomprehensible. It's like they had two totally different translators passing the project back and forth the whole game. - The story is serviceable. It's a little Tales of Arise, Hunger Games, and His Dark Materials, but scaled waaaaaay back. And the number of times they break the fourth wall, you can tell the devs don't really take the story that seriously which is actually kind of pleasant. - It ends on a cliffhanger. It's not the worst cliffhanger, but it definitely felt more like the end of an episode instead of the end of a movie. And I worry this didn't perform well enough to expect a sequel. Basically, this was a game that had big dreams, but maybe too big and it suffers for it. I hope the studio can learn from this and make something more whole. It doesn't have to be better, just let it be complete. To all you developers out there, please only take on what you can. You don't have to match the beasts of the industry. You are a smol duck and that's okay. Be little and be proud.
WHAT THE HACK! First load…. Failed! Second load…. Failed! Third load…. Stuck on Loading 0%! Fourth load…. Language changed itself from English to Portuguese! Finally…. Was able to play as normal, thank goodness. A fun looking game at first sight, but please fix the bugs!
Like others mentioned, buggy but not in a fun way like Skyrim. Game glitched out on me early during rematch early boss battle and got stuck, had to restart a 3rd time. If people are going to pay for a game of this price, it should've been fixed first. I am disappointed at paying full price for a broken game.
