In theory a decent little game, and fine for the price asked/playtime provided (~2hr including idle time to get all achievements for me) Easy to learn and understand, but can also provide challenges once you up the difficulty level.. Now why I dont recommend the game: The enemy ai has an aimbot with any type weapon over any distance, which in itself wouldnt be that bad, if the enemies would atleast look your direction. But instead they are looking somewhere completly else, leaving the player to wonder where they got shot from. Also the enemy sometimes seems to be able to shoot trough the top of objects you may find cover behind. This all is obviously not game breaking, but it gets really annoying quickly, which is something you dont really want when playing for fun, at least in my opinion. Thats why, until that gets fixed, I wouldnt recommend this game.
I really wanted to like Market Garden, and I hate writing up a negative review, BUT this is truly a *slog* of video game to get through. Which is a shame because there are nuggets of potential within the game, and I wish the developers the best in carrying forward what they have learned from Market Garden. So, why did I like Market Garden? That's really difficult to explain other than this was clearly a passion project to some extent. The level aesthetics are fantastic, the characters, pickups, and weapons all look fantastic. The sound design has some real chonk to it. There are appropriate music tracks, though they can meander and repeat on short loops. *However*... the issues quickly pile up after the first level, Son Bridge. There are issues with the colors that will either go unnoticed or will cause your eyes to strain. The CRTV effect seemed to help, user experience may vary though. The level design is kind of awful, with the exception of the level, "Driel." And Koevering being the worst level in the game, one that may cause quite a few folks to simply drop the game entirely. Personally, I began to establish a habit of entering the next 'arena', picking a spot where I could pick off hostiles, and (ideally) be in a position that would confuse the AI and turn the gameplay into a turkey shoot. A turkey shoot where you occasionally had to push back hostiles who would attempt to bum rush you in impotent rage. That is not to say the hostile AI is a pushover, far from it. Initially you will be fighting for your life from aimbots who will have you burning through your bandages and morphine. But, as stated earlier, it can be manipulated for moments of cheese gameplay. The weapons are good overall in spite of the Garand being an inaccurate pea shooter. And you won't be able to simply rip and tear due to the accuracy, but that's not really an issue (simply something to note). There is the issue of the Einfield's animation however, so be wary if you tend get motion sickness. And... there's not much more to say except I was glad that, "Out of ammo, God save the King." Helped Market Garden end on a high note (aside from the mortar causing issues). There are difficulty settings apparently? I don't recall ever having a choice in that regard. If you do have those options, dear reader, then do yourself a favor and play on Easy. At least then Market Garden would be a laid back arcade shooter that you can enjoy. I do hope to see more from Tom and the Icy Bayts studio. Again, there is a lot of potential to be had here. Just need to take lessons learned from the project and reviews into the next.
Rating
3/10
Intro
A commendable attempt at making a single-player focused World War 2 shooter, since those kinds have basically stopped being in the works. But it has too many significant issues for me to get immersed, which is not ideal for a sub-genre where such a thing is the whole point of the experience. You're better off playing the games that inspired it, like Call of Duty 2 or World at War.
Positives
+ Good weapon variety.
Negatives
- No voice acting. - Weapons lack impact. - Heavy flinch when getting shot at. - Unable to prone behind waist-high walls so as to take cover from gunfire. - Doesn't look as good as the screenshots. There's a bizarre filter over the game, that makes it look smeared. - Enemies basically have perfect accuracy once you're in their line of sight. Which might've made sense, if the game had regenerating health like in Call of Duty 2, but it doesn't and has fixed health instead.
Good WW2 game, it's something I was looking for and didn't know how much. Finally a (new) singleplayer FPS WW2 game with actual battle instead of some special covert operations. Love to feel like a gear in the war machine again. Short, yeah, but intense. It has some flaws; like looking weird sometimes, not a big deal for me as I was having too much fun, but I can understand it can bother some people. A good friend of mine discovered this game for me and I must say I feel very thankfull for that, it's like going back to when I introduced to the FPS genre. The game itself doesn't invent anything new, but boy, it does bring back the nostalgia of an era long gone by. I can just say thanks to the developer for these almost six hours of fun, I hope you keep continuing with this series.
Not the best war game ive played but certainly decent. it isnt as bad as the negative reviews say but it does need alot of work
Nice old-school WWII game. Sometimes a bit too hard, but definitely worth playing. Made by a solo dev, so I recommend supporting it.
Oyun, klasik, eski tarz FPS aksiyonunu köklerine geri getirerek, 2.
