Lateralis Heavy Industries has done it again, Manus Dei is a shooter from the Developer of OTXO , and draws pretty clear inspiration from arena survival shooters like Devil Daggers & Hyper Demon. The titular Manus Dei is a big ole shotgun with very interesting, cultist-type design. Big spikes tipped in blood emerge from the weapon when the "limiter" (ability, left shift) is removed. you're able to fire the gun at much higher fire rate, and is good for clearing the arena when things get too close for comfort. The Atmosphere that Manus Dei provides is quite eerie and foreboding when you're in the arena, a dark droning noise is heard throughout the fight while the gun does the talking. It fires loud, crunchy shots, and the enemies splatter into big meaty gibs, blood flies everywhere. Good stuff. However, this is a Day One (1) Review, and Manus Dei is not without problems, the game lacks most of the polish that the previous game, OTXO , saw. Here's some stuff i had experienced. The Main menu, while it does look cool, is lacking in an options screen, its only when you're in the game are you able to access the options, which you will have to do. It feels like there's some kind of input delay or input lag when it comes to moving and looking in the game, the camera tilt when pressing A or D does not help this. The default fov was somewhere on the lower end (why?) and the maximum is 110, which is good, 110 should be the standard. Its just that now in a game like this something higher might be more desirable, you need to be able to be aware of whats around you at all times, (see: Hyper Demon ). I'm not sure if there's actually a difference between the High and Low Texture Quality Setting (couldn't tell, or not "low" enough), but setting the Shadow Quality to low really alleviated what felt like performance issues. Onto more game-y criticisms i have, the desert with giant spikes where you grab the gun looks really interesting! its just that there's invisible walls stopping you from seeing whats out there, even just a little something would be nice. Everything is sort of the same colour when you're in the arena, lots of brown and red, enemies can get in the way of projectiles (which are big and obvious, good) but when you're being chased down by the lesser goobers or the red flying creature with the ram skull, it can feel pretty unfair when a projectile just, phases through them and hits you without warning. Speaking of death, its "1 hit and you're dead" rules, like Devil Daggers, there's a falling to the ground animation this time, and you have to see it through every time along with the leaderboard eventually appearing, not even pressing R means quick restart because it doesn't do anything. I'm not sure if Bhopping is actually in the game, but you can do it without any speed gain (which is weird), the other movement tech is Shotgun Jumping, basically just Rocket Jumping and you go up, again, doesn't feel like there's any speed to get when air strafing after a rocket jump, but should be in the game if you're going in that direction. Its only useful when you need to dodge those Frog looking goobers with lasers and also to shoot the Eye towers, It feels like jumping and shooting (without looking down) will push you back a bit, feels weird. Oh yeah and the game has no achievements, no points meter (or hud, really), no tutorial and no slow-mo as seen in the trailer, although maybe a slight slow-mo effect would be helpful to get your bearings when you activate the ability. Overall, while Manus Dei is cheap, ($2.99 or £2.49), it has potential. I feel like it could've had just a little bit longer in the oven, or had been playtested more (if at all). 7/10. Good sounds, Alright gameplay. Buy if you want to hunt highscores, and not much else.
Another great Lateralis game, just like in OTXO your ability is your best friend. L-SHIFT unlocks an alternate firing mode for a short time, this isnt't really hinted at except for in the control settings but it should be used like one of the main features. Great for racking up points. Eating the Orb's dropped by enemies will slowly upgrade your ability lengthening its duration
Banger game, ADD MORE GUNS GRAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Manus Dei is very good, it’s got a strong atmosphere, solid FPS mechanics which really impressed me. The gameplay is very simple: you enter an area with a single weapon and kill waves of enemies until you die. It’s very basic but it’s a very fun and challenging experience. The weapon acts as a super powered shotgun that has great accuracy and range which makes it very effective. You also have an alternative mode for the weapon which is on a cool down, this allows you to turn it into an assault rifle of sorts with a much higher fire rate. You can also pick up these orbs in the arena to increase how long you can use it for. The movement has a surprising amount of depth to it, you can use the gun to boost yourself into the air as well as off walls, you can also use it to push yourself away from incoming attacks. These mechanics really add some complexity and skill to the game. Part of me wishes there was more variety weapons wise, something like a sniper or SMG to choose from would have been a fun alternative to mix up the action. I don’t think the game will be receiving any further content as far as I’m aware but I would very much welcome it. The enemies I have encountered are all very understandable to fight against and you learn their tricks quickly, I have only managed to get so I’ve only really experienced the base enemies and the enhanced versions of them but I’m hoping there will be more I have yet to see, overall the enemies are great. The game had leaderboards which is great if you are into competing for high scores (I’m currently at #13 one the score board). One thing I would like to see is my score visually increase while I play the game. The art is great, gritty and retro with a really good atmosphere which is grungy and dark. The textures all look awesome and the visual effects also look just as good. The sound here is excellent, the weapon is awfully loud but very impactful and it makes it very satisfying to use, the enemies all have unique sounds that really add to the gameplay. There aren't many music tracks by the sounds of it but what exists is great, I would love to see more added to the game. The performance is fine, you should have no trouble running the game on most low to high end PCs. As for bugs, I didn’t experience a single issue during my playtime In conclusion, I really recommend this one, it’s very well made and it has good value for the very low price. As far as I’m aware of the final product however I would love to see a little more content added to the game, in its current state I highly recommend the game.
облегченный Devil Daggers, если нравится DD и Hyper Demon, то и это зайдет, вполне весело
Cool Vibe. Sucks at high level though with a consistent crash on boss or after.

Manus Dei is another game by the creator of the undoubtedly much more famous OTXO. However, while Manus Dei is certainly not as deep or complex as OTXO, it still manages to deliver a similarly satisfying experience. The gameplay of Manus Dei is essentially as simple as it gets: You get a shotgun, before proceeding to jump down into a hellish arena. The arena itself carries a rather dark atmosphere, with its color palette mostly consisting of a dark, almost black red. In said arena, you are attacked by hordes of similarly hellish enemies. Your job is, unsurprisingly, to kill the enemies. Interestingly, there are no power-ups or new weapons to help you with this: Instead, all you have is that shotgun you were given at the start. Said weapon can, however, be put into an alternate firing mode by using the shift key, which turns it into a much more powerful, fully automatic weapon. Furthermore, this mode has a limited duration, and comes with a cooldown. In addition, killed enemies drop small orbs, which extend the total duration of said mode - this is basically the only way you can "upgrade" your character. What makes Manus Dei's simple gameplay so satisfying for me, is the movement: Not only is the playable character's movement satisfyingly smooth and responsive, but you can also use your weapon to perform impressive "moves": For example, you are able to boost yourself off the ground by jumping and firing at the ground, boost yourself away from enemies or walls, and so on. It's rather fun to experiment with different techniques, to get the most out of your movements. In addition to that, the game's sounds - especially the ones produced by your weapon - are by all means satisfying and "punchy". By far my favorite element is the leaderbord: After your unavoidable death to the game's enemies, you will be presented with a global leaderbord. Due to the lack of a massive playercount, reaching a substantial number in the global rank is rather easy (I currently find myself around the 25th spot, after 2 hours of playing). For me personally, this adds to the game's satisfying nature, as you aren't outranked by hundred thousands of other players. I could go on for much longer, but I realize that it's difficult for me to put the experience one will have with "Manus Dei" into the proper words. So, I advise you to simply purchase the game, if it has caught your attention. In my opinion, it is very well worth the cheap price.
