Reviews
It's kinda funny to read the reviews for Arena. A lot of people complaining about the shufflers or the matchmaking. My recommendation for that is to play ranked so you can play with people at your skill level. Now the biggest downside I do think is that it is really hard to get a collection going. What I have found helpful is looking into draft archetypes, best cards in each archetypes, and building a collection via quick draft. If you have as many wins as you do losses then you end up getting the gem equivalent of the packs back and you build up your vault, which gives you more wild cards. As far as the shuffler goes... it's a game with random chance, and sometimes you just get your bad beats. Best of luck in your future matches. As far as Magic goes... it's my favorite game of all time. It's so easy to get lost in this vast game with so many interlacing mechanics. The best way to play the game is definitely with friends in person, but this fills the void in between haha.

The biggest pro in my opinion throughout playing Arena is the ability to experiment and obtain extremely rare cards that would be unobtainable for the average consumer. i.e Library of Alexandria. At the end of the day this game is still great for what it is, MTG on the fly and opportunity to face new decks, build your own or experiment with different combos that spark your interest. I find modes limited, there is only singleton format which leads to some pretty toxic or unenjoyable games when facing heavy removal or control decks. The ranking system is decent, you gain more than you lose until platinum and it's pretty easy to reach mythic with a solid deck if you are familiar with the format. It can be tough to stay in the loop with the standard meta if you aren't ready to drop a few hundred when new packs release, but there are FTP routes integrated within the game such as quick drafts and traditional drafts which you can buy in using gold you earn daily through completing challenges or getting 15 wins in a day. Definitely a bit of a longer review, but if you're considering getting into the game & you're newer to magic, I suggest researching some decks online before spending your wildcards. Create a decent deck you find cool and you'll have fun regardless of getting stomped by the meta wielding cave dwellers.
abysmal matchmaking. games makes you jump through hoops just to achieve mediocre uncommons. literally convinced it just picks whos going to win and gives them a winning hand. cannot tell you how many times ive drawn the same exact ccards first hand over and over. save your money, you can pick up a shoe box of cards from the flea market for 5 or 10 buck usually. the secondary market is cratering so you can get mythics and uncommons for 50 cents on tcg player. way more fun. expanded universes kill it too, nothing like gandolf and spiderman teaming up. sure ill be bored with this by the time they vomit star trek skins on everything.
decent game, terrible for pc screen. idk if im just dumb but whenever i select full screen for some reason when i swap to any other menu it resizes the screen into a terribly sized window mode that nearly cuts off the play button.
I dip my toes back in every now and then when they actually use their own IP, I don't play standard anymore because the 3 year rotation has killed the balance and also it would mean I would have to play Universe Beyond cards. I hate that Wizards has turned this game into Fortnite, if they wanted to do this they should have only gone for fantasy IPs or some that matches the theme of the world of MTG. Ninja Turtles, Spiderman and Marvel has been a disaster for the game, they were so pose to draw in normies and failed. Lord of the Rings, DnD/Baldurs Gate is by far the best they done and I look forward to The Hobbit, but I look to the future and Star Trek is also a head scratcher. How hard is it to go and get Elder Scrolls, The Witcher, Game of Thrones, Warhammer Fantasy, Castlevania and World of Warcraft. Alchemy has also poisoned the well, it was so pose to just be a way to balance cards that were ban worthy but then they couldn't help themselves and injected Arena only cards which are usually incredibly powerful and can warp a game. I play only Brawl as it's the only commander style game mode and I just wish they put in a version where Alchemy was not aloud as I feel playing those cards is basically cheating. Can't really recommend anyone pay money and get into this as it feels like they will eventually move on to a new game which can actually have 4 player commander because not having playable commander is the games biggest draw back. I only recommend it to standard players who can't play in person or is digital only.
It's great.
get those corny a** marvel cards out of my face and stop force feeding me IPs
The monetization system in the game promotes playing as quickly, aggressively, and cutthroat-ly as possible, as there is no reward for simply playing a game. There is no space for casual decks in which you try out fun, novel combos/gimmicks that aren't strictly the best ones you could possibly perform. This leads to miserable games where the outcome is usually decided by turn 3, whether you're playing to win (50/50 that you succeed) or to have fun (~10% chance to survive past turn 6). You're often matched against decks that are full of mythics and rares when you're only running two mythics, a rare, and the rest uncommon/commons. This could be fixed somewhat by including a gamemode where you play against more than one person, as then your opponent will have to think, but WotC are apparently too lazy to bother coding any such format. Purchase or proxy cards and find people to play with IRL. Play on Tabletop Simulator, where you can use any card for free. Play Hearthstone. They have similar issues, but they bothered to include single-player content. Just don't play this, unless all you care about is making the opponents life total hit zero as fast as possible.
