I used to play the console version of this and wanted to jump back in to the MTG world. I wanted to learn/test new and different decks and realized I'll be spending significantly more money on the digital version than I would IRL so what's the point? Trying to play with my friends online requires a serious amount of real money or a significant grind that defeats the purpose of being able to play with friends since I'm forced to play ranked against strangers for any exp/coins/etc to get new packs with zero reward playing the same matches against friends. coins and exp would be nice but alas it seems very p2w and leeches the life out of what the game is supposed to be in the first place. It makes zero sense to monetize cards and packs in a digital format where the cards could be earned like a normal game. Depressing to say the least. Guess I'll revisit as a time killer when no one is online but this is a major fumble on WoTC.
Sad to see where this game went.
Best drafting experience of any card game
everything is good
MAGIC IS SO PEAK
It's Magic the Gathering. Playable online. That's about all their is to say.
mtg only cares about making money now. constant tie in sets and crazy power creep has killed the magic you grew up playing. abandon ship.
Game draws are extremely far from standard deviation. Likely filled with bots taking your gems/money. Would avoid at all costs unless you are playing only the free version and don't mind not playing magic. Magic the game is fun. Magic arena is a rigged mess. Lawsuit coming soon per reddit and honestly well deserved.
I'd rather play with my hands and paper cards.
The monetization system in the game promotes playing as quickly, aggressively, and cutthroat-ly as possible, as there is no reward for simply playing a game. There is no space for casual decks in which you try out fun, novel combos/gimmicks that aren't strictly the best ones you could possibly perform. This leads to miserable games where the outcome is usually decided by turn 3, whether you're playing to win (50/50 that you succeed) or to have fun (~10% chance to survive past turn 6). You're often matched against decks that are full of mythics and rares when you're only running two mythics, a rare, and the rest uncommon/commons. This could be fixed somewhat by including a gamemode where you play against more than one person, as then your opponent will have to think, but WotC are apparently too lazy to bother coding any such format. Purchase or proxy cards and find people to play with IRL. Play on Tabletop Simulator, where you can use any card for free. Play Hearthstone. They have similar issues, but they bothered to include single-player content. Just don't play this, unless all you care about is making the opponents life total hit zero as fast as possible.
