This game is so rigged. It's nothing but a cash grab that preys on those who love the game but also have a microtransaction addiction. You automatically know if you have a chance at winning or not from the first draw. You magically start winning when you spend actual money on something. This game sucks and they only want your money. Oh did I mention that they only want your money? Shame on WoC for making such a cash grab of a game. I'm never playing this or spending money on physical cards again.

I love how you can't get passed the last TUTORIAL LEVEL, I tried to do it 18 Times and i took it nice and slow each time after the 10th Time AND YOU I STILL COULDN'T GET PASSED IT AS HE HAD CARD THAT WOULD WIPE THE BORAD AND LEAVE ME WITH NOTHING EVERY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TURN OF HIS AND I HAD NO CHANCE TO BUILD UP ANYTHING!!!! WORSE GAME IDEA, I Guess they don't like have new players join the game and trying to play it when you can't even get into the main game bec there last boss is 1 shoting every thing your doing and not giving you a chance to learn nor try and build up something to have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ CHANCE to win.
well, at least i got into magic a few years before they turned it into slop. i didn't get to play consistently over the last 10 years but i have fond memories of theros. i got into the game because it had something unique going on and they seemed to genuinely value the worldbuilding and artists who made that possible...when i scroll past this game now, i almost want to laugh when i see marvel characters or spongebob...
It's P2W enough said
Unless you really like magic there is no reason to play this game. It's not exactly pay-to-win, but at a casual level it just as well might be. Multiplayer has recurring issues, softwarebugs sometimes takes weeks to fix. When card interactions fail there is no in-game reporting tool or recording function. There is no social element like chat but everyone understands why: frustration in this game is commonplace so chat would be mostly insults anyway. Achievements, XP, cards, everything is a grind or just burn some €.
I've won more games from people quitting than I've won and lost full games combined. Wizards should really implement a detriment when you concede. Even if it stopped players from searching for games for a short period. I swear I spend more time searching for a match sometimes than I actually do playing. Thank god this game is free to play because I would feel really cheated if I had spent money on this.
I have been playing Paper Magic since 1994, owned and ran a FLGS for 15 years of that time, and have well over 2,000 hours into Arena - having played it since the 2018 open Beta prior to installing it on Steam. Yes I will keep playing this - (obviously) but I do not recommend this hobby or game to anyone. Nope! How could I? The Good: It's a digital magic with rules automation built in for all the cards that are in the system. Arena manages game state so you don't have to argue over how rules work. Sometimes in the most obtuse way but hey it's at least quick and unforgiving about how it handles this. The Bad: Arena distills Magic the Gathering down to the worst parts and threats it as if those are features. False scarcity, Opponent Griefing, Slow Play, Absurd lock-out strategies, and games that often don't last 3 turns. All while denying us a platform to play digitally with our friends the most successful format of all time: Commander. They'll charge you $25 for a set of 5 Full Art land skins, because of course they will. They'll lock these away so you can't even buy them most of the time. Instead of some sort of sane pricing structure they use behavioral economics and FOMO to prey on those with low impulse control. Just like any Gacha game. You do not need to engage the cosmetics and frankly shouldn't since you can't without extreme expense bling out a whole deck so what even is the point anyway? If this still is not enough to ward you off and you are determined to suffer through the 'Video Game' that is MTGA do yourself a favor and spend absolutely no more money on this game than a set release 'mastery pass'. Make sure to buy all resources through Steam so that WotC only gets 70% as much as they would. Grind ICRs and Wilds and Gold until you can make your first "Tier 1" format deck for whatever deckplan you prefer the most (EXCEPT STANDARD since that is a total resource Rug-Pull every couple of months.) The Ugly: I encourage you to not give them any money at all if you can swing it. Yes it will feel as if you are completely hobbled for a long while. Play the included Precon decks with other Precon players and master them, play jump-start for 1,000 gold a run and collect some cards that way for fun. Play 'Quick Drafts' with your saved gold. Just don't expect this to feel like Magic across the table with an opponent you respect. The human on the other side of the screen does not respect your time or energy. They're just there to win as fast as possible, in the most toxic way, not to interact. You can't treat this as a full replacement for paper magic. What a game!
This game is absolutely rigged, so if you enjoy playing a game that doesnt reward you for deck building and matches you up with decks that will hard counter yours, all the while rigging your card draws, this is the game for you!! :)
I played it a bit in the past when it was just MTG stuff. I log in and I'm seeing ninja turtles, avatar, marvel etc, it's just a mess of cash grab slop; there is no identity to the game anymore, I'm guessing they saw the success of their LOTR collab then just kept trying to recreate it to the point they let their greed spoil the game. In my opinion this company needs to run this IP through chemo and start fresh and keep MTG as MTG; no crossovers or collabs. Don't bother downloading. Wait for a new game without all the mess.
