Magic defense 2: The Return of the Legend is another GameMaker Studio asset flip from serial copy+paste infringers, Phoenixxx Games. All these guys do is rip off game templates and projects from the Yoyogames/GameMaker Studio marketplace, change the name and a few cosmetic details, and try to scam people into paying for someone else's work on Steam. They have run asset flip scams dozens of times, and this is no exception (just look at their other games on Steam). It's nothing but a cash grab. This time they've ripped off a basic template for a 2D retro pixel tower defense game (the same template they ripped off for Magic Defense 1). GameMaker Studio itself is a terrible game construction kit, and this asset flip shows just how bad things can get when templates/tutorials/demos from that construction kit get dumped on Steam as complete games. Asset flips and other "Fake games" (as Valve calls them) are harmful to the industry, because they pollute the marketplace and reduce the visibility and exposure needed by genuine indie developers. In line with dishonest asset flippers, the game was dumped immediately at launch into DailyIndieGame shovelware bundles. Even if this wasn't just an asset flip, it would be garbage. Impossible to recommend.
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The developer insists their garbage asset flips aren't garbage asset flips. All I have to say is to look at their ludicrous catalogue of GMS template rip-offs and judge for yourself. Every single one dumped into DailyIndieGame at launch and with other people's engines, assets, game mechanics... absolutely nothing done by this "developer" was of their own creation. It's fascinating the developer only ever wrote one game review... for Piece of Voxel, known Unity Asset flippers from games like Hoples and Top Truck Driver... is it the same Russian scammer? Quite possibly. It's always fun when the scammers out themselves. If so, review manipulation is a great way for developers to be banned from Steam. So I'm sure it's just a co-incidence! Phoenixxx Games also asset flipped "Cat from the Box" from Cat and Food, a game made by Softrave. They're known scam artists and asset flippers. Why do they need to lie about this one? Regardless, reviews are not about game "developers", no matter how unethical they might be, and no matter how much they rip off the work of others. They're about games. For the reasons I've supplied, this game is complete trash, and should be avoided by everyone.
Wanna play some tower defense, heh? Then better buy some good game or go to Kongregate, because this game sucks!

Magic defense 2: The Return of the Legend is a fantasy tower defense game developed and published by Phoenixxx Games. Built around the timeless concept of protecting a magical fortress from endless enemy assaults, the game delivers a straightforward strategic experience that focuses on planning, resource management, and tactical decision-making. Rather than relying on an elaborate narrative, it places players directly into the role of a defender tasked with stopping waves of creatures determined to seize the world's magical power. The simple premise allows the gameplay to remain the central attraction, making it accessible to both newcomers and longtime tower defense enthusiasts. The game's strongest feature is its commitment to classic tower defense mechanics. Players must carefully position defensive structures, upgrade their magical arsenal, and adapt their strategies to counter increasingly difficult enemy formations. Every battle requires balancing offense and defense, ensuring that resources are spent wisely while maintaining enough firepower to survive later waves. As new threats emerge, players are encouraged to experiment with different defensive setups, creating a satisfying sense of progression as they learn the strengths and weaknesses of each available option. Visually, the game embraces a colorful fantasy aesthetic that complements its magical theme. The environments are vibrant and easy to read, allowing players to quickly identify enemy paths and important battlefield elements. While the graphics are not intended to push technical boundaries, they effectively support the gameplay and help create an engaging atmosphere. The variety of enemies and magical effects adds life to battles, making each wave feel active and energetic even during longer play sessions. Another appealing aspect is the game's progression system. Unlockable upgrades and improved defensive capabilities provide players with meaningful goals beyond simply completing levels. The steady introduction of new challenges prevents the experience from becoming repetitive too quickly, while the increasing difficulty encourages strategic refinement. Success often depends not only on building stronger defenses but also on understanding enemy behavior and adapting to changing battlefield conditions. The audio presentation supports the fantasy setting with suitable music and sound effects that enhance the action without becoming distracting. Magical attacks, enemy movements, and defensive abilities all provide useful feedback during combat, helping players stay aware of what is happening across the battlefield. Although the soundtrack may not be particularly memorable, it serves its purpose effectively and contributes to the game's overall atmosphere. Magic defense 2: The Return of the Legend does not attempt to reinvent the tower defense genre, but it succeeds by delivering a polished and enjoyable interpretation of familiar mechanics. Its accessible gameplay, fantasy-themed presentation, and steady progression system create a rewarding experience for players who enjoy strategic defense challenges. While those looking for groundbreaking innovation may find the formula familiar, fans of traditional tower defense games will likely appreciate the game's focus on solid mechanics and consistent challenge. Overall, Magic defense 2: The Return of the Legend is an entertaining strategy title that understands its audience and delivers exactly what it promises. By combining classic tower defense gameplay with a magical fantasy setting and a satisfying progression loop, it offers a dependable experience that can provide many hours of strategic enjoyment. A Tower Defense Game where you have freely Movable Troops instead of Towers and Cross Level Progress instead of getting New Troops in the Level. The Game itself is pretty simple but good and fun if you are bored. Only worth the Full Price to Support the Dev, wait for Sale otherwise
