Mage World is a "template flip", that is to say, it's a "game" that has been produced by copying a game template from GameMaker Studio, changing a few things, then dumping the barely functional "product" on Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab. In this case it was a GameMaker Studio template for doing a simple retro platformer game. The developer did put some effort into custom level design and a few sprites, but it's still ultimately just something slapped together using a game construction kit, rather than being properly and professionally developed. To add insult to injury, the developer didn't bother finishing the game, instead dumping it in an unfinished state on Steam Early Access, then selling keys to bundle shovelers like DailyIndieGame, took all the money and ran for the hills, abandoning the game with no real intention of completing it. The developer abandoned the game just one month after dumping it on Early Access, and hasn't bothered patching it since. GameMaker Studio is a very poor quality game construction kit, and results in terrible games like this one. Using a game construction kit requires no game development talent, and unsurprisingly produces products that have little to no value as games, especially when compared to the work of professional developers who create genuine products for gamers. It's almost as bad as an outright asset flip.
Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says "Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to." The developer originally replied with a profanity and insult laden response attacking me for pointing out that no serious developers were involved in Mage World, and that it was simply thrown together using GameMaker Studio. For those who don't know, GameMaker Studio is a basic game engine with a bunch of templates that you fill out. The developer also admitted they didn't create the art for the game, and it was ripped off from canned asset packs. Realising that their response was in breach of the community guidelines, they edited their response to remove some of the contradictions and lies they had made, as well as the unacceptable profanity. The developer accuses me of mistruth, however my review is completely honest and validated by the developers own admission that they didn't develop a game in the proper sense of the word, just filled out a GameMaker Studio template and used canned assets, basically this whole thing is an asset flip, or what Valve themselves refer to as a "fake game". The developer accuses me of not liking "childrens games", that's also untrue. In fact, I've given positive reviews to games made for children, when the quality has been acceptably high enough, and the games were produced by genuine, professional game developers. Filling out a template doesn't make someone a developer, and GameMaker Studio produces shallow, poor quallity games. Mage World is a shining example of how bad and lazy game construction kit shovelware really is. The developer doesn't even bother refuting my objectively true assessment, that the game is abandoned early access (SteamDB shows the game hasn't been patched or updated since it was dumped on Steam and development stopped). Dumping the game into game bundles as a finished product cements that position as objective fact. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how hostile or dishonest or even morally bankrupt some "developers" (copy + paste artists) are. What matters is the game. Mage World was made with a low quality game construction kit with a poor engine. Gameplay is clunky and unpolished. Ugly retro pixel "art" asset flips were used instead of producing the game with proper, contemporary 3D, high polygon graphics. The game is incomplete and was abandoned by the developer as soon as it arrived in Steam Early Access. As a result, the game is of unacceptably low quality, below acceptable standards for a modern PC game, and I cannot recommend it. Edit 2: The developer is now threatening me (I had already reported this developer to Valve due to the profanity in their first angry response). The developer claims they made the game with their own hands, but then immediately contradicts themselves by admitting they used GameMaker Studio. You can see the developer clearly lacks sincerity when they put forward two positions in the same sentence that both can't be true. The game is clearly made with GameMaker so he didn't make it all by hand. This isn't difficult to understand, no serious game development was done here. He claims he did some of the assets himself using GameMaker Studio asset templates instead of buying asset packs. Which is a strange thing to admit to considering the deplorably bad quality of the 2D retro pixel "art" assets in this "game". It's still cludged together badly with GMS. The developer then admits the game is mediocre. I guess we can all agree on that, although it's still difficult to understand why the developer is so hostile and dishonest about the other aspects of this GameMaker asset flip. Regardless, once more, my reviews are not here to educate, reward or punish developers, they're here to inform gamers about products, in this case, the developer themselves admits the game is a mediocre GameMaker Studio template flip, which is certainly a good reason never to buy this when you could buy games made by game developers who can get by without a game construction kit.
Looks like someone put some love in this game! Full working controller support and i would even give it a try again! looks promising! If you like small indie platformers , give this one a try! but be aware in current its best played with keyboard , as some keys have no placement from the controller , like start key i can simply not live with a half finished solution!
Sevimli grafiklere sahip 2 boyutlu olan bu dünyada, Bir büyücü olarak asamızla düşmanlarımızı saf dışı bırakarak ilerlemeye çalıştığımız, ilerlerken etraftaki altınları toplayarak kendimizi geliştirebildiğimiz bağımsız bir yapımcı tarafından hazırlanan harika bir oyun. might be still EA but even in sale for 47ct it's not worth it... looks, feels and plays like a low 9ct assett flipper game.... way better games out there... ah and no achievements
This game feels like a product of ambition from an emerging developer, and I'm all for it. It's a basic platformer where you collect coins to unlock other worlds and extra lives, as well as new spells upon beating each world's boss. I'm a fan of this, besides the fact that you really don't need any other spell once you get Force Burst. I played through all the levels available as of now, and it's a pretty lengthy game for the price. That being said, it's overall fairly easy, and a lot of the levels don't have much that make them distinct from one another, but the levels in Episode 2 ramp up the difficulty considerably, and I found it pretty engaging, aside from a few somewhat frustrating jumps and enemy placements. Looking forward to how this game will end!

Ayyaaz told me this is the best game ever made even though i died 12 times and never got any coins and the engluishw as crap, and i didnt even unlock the boss cos if you want to beat this game, you better be prepared to fork over your hard earned magebucks to the king, so he can pay alimony checks or maybe child support. Ultimately, i dont think nintendo should another mario game, because everyone will be playing this instead. Truly ushering steam into the forefront of the platform game genre.
