I played Celeste, both Ori´s and now Lumione on 100%, and I'm disappointed to report that Lumione falls short of expectations. Despite my dedication to mastering its challenges, the game presents significant hurdles that detract from the overall experience. One of the most frustrating aspects of Lumione is the lack of control over the character, especially during crucial gameplay elements like being launched along pathways or executing dashes. Far too often, I found myself at the mercy of the game's mechanics, unable to steer my character effectively or regain control in time to avoid obstacles. Adding to the frustration is the uneven design of the game's map. Rather than providing a consistent and predictable environment, Lumione's surfaces seem almost deliberately irregular. This inconsistency means that even when I executed what should have been a perfect jump or maneuver, I often found myself careening off in unintended directions due to the unpredictable terrain. However, perhaps the most egregious issue plaguing Lumione is its hitbox design. The hitboxes, especially those of the spikes lining the walls, seem disproportionately large or small. This design flaw leads to countless unfair deaths, as I frequently found myself succumbing to spikes that I swear I should have narrowly avoided. In conclusion, despite my initial enthusiasm and dedication to mastering Lumione, I cannot in good conscience recommend it to fellow gamers. The frustrating lack of control, combined with the uneven map design and unfair hitboxes, detracts significantly from the overall enjoyment of the game, making it an experience best avoided.
First off the slow movement speed is because is terrible optimization, lower the graphics and that will fix itself. I don't find the puzzles very fun. The spikes have very large hitboxes meaning it's incredibly hard to predict if you'll hit one when grabbing or not. A number of other issues. And the puzzles just aren't very fun to play. Almost all of them you decode within seconds and just have to work through. The nail in the coffin for me was the first chase sequence, my cognitive reaction speed just couldn't keep up, I managed the first two screens after sticking with in for a VERY long time and they just said no, to continuing. This is why chase sequences in precision platformers are problematic, because unless you've advertised this somehow, you are including an element that is not expected of the genre that players may not have signed up for and may in fact not be capable of completing. Now if your game at least has the option to skip these levels or assist features like Celeste that's one thing, but if it doesn't like here, you've barred anyone out from seeing any further.
Similar to Celeste but with a overall higher difficulty. The spikes may be a little jank but I love the art style and the music and the mechanics.
A game Kyo can't beat
Visually inspired by Ori with gameplay inspired by Celeste. Game looks gorgeous and soundtrack really complements the aesthetics! Really fun puzzle-solving platforming! Cool how the platforming gimmicks develop! Hitboxes are a bit wild sometimes, things you don't want to hit are huge and things you want to hit are smol, so this makes things seem a bit janky and unfair occasionally. Many deaths may not feel like your own fault, like the execution was there but the result wasn't. So if you can stomach a little bit of frustration, you'll enjoy what this game has to offer! Overall, solid recommend for sure!
