Love, Death & Veggies, developed and published by 7DOTS alongside Phoenix_co, is a vibrant and quirky visual novel that blends humor, romance, and sci-fi elements into a uniquely engaging narrative experience. Released in early 2022, the game stands out for its collection of six distinct stories, each exploring different characters, worlds, and themes that range from extraterrestrial romance to fantastical adventures involving elves, robots, and gnomes. What binds these diverse tales together is a playful tone combined with thoughtful writing, delivering a blend of emotional depth and lighthearted fun that keeps players invested from start to finish. Visually, Love, Death & Veggies impresses with its detailed and expressive Live2D animations, which breathe life into the colorful cast of characters. The art style is charmingly stylized, with each story’s setting reflected through carefully crafted backgrounds and character designs that capture the personality and mood of their respective narratives. The smooth animations add a dynamic layer to the interactions, making conversations feel more immersive and emotionally resonant. This visual sophistication elevates the game beyond a typical static visual novel, enhancing player engagement through subtle character gestures and facial expressions. The narrative structure varies across the different stories, providing a mix of kinetic storytelling and player-driven choices. Some chapters unfold linearly, allowing players to absorb the carefully woven plot without interruption, while others incorporate decision points that influence character relationships and endings. This balance between passive and interactive storytelling ensures the experience appeals to a broad audience—those who enjoy absorbing a crafted narrative as well as players who prefer to shape the outcome of the story through their decisions. The writing is witty and accessible, with humor often arising from quirky character interactions and situational irony, yet it also tackles deeper themes like connection, loss, and self-discovery. Sound design in Love, Death & Veggies is another highlight, featuring an original soundtrack composed to match the eclectic tone of the game’s stories. The music ranges from upbeat and whimsical to haunting and atmospheric, perfectly complementing the varied settings and emotional beats. Ambient sounds and well-timed audio cues further immerse players, underscoring moments of tension, romance, or humor. Although the game lacks voice acting, the combined effect of music and animation successfully conveys mood and character emotions, enriching the overall storytelling. Community reception has been broadly positive, with players praising the game for its creativity, engaging writing, and visual presentation. The variety of stories and settings is often highlighted as a strength, keeping the experience fresh and unpredictable. Additionally, the inclusion of Steam features such as achievements and cloud saves enhances replayability and convenience. Some players note that the pacing can feel uneven at times, especially when transitioning between very different narrative styles or tones, but this is generally outweighed by the overall quality and charm of the game. In summary, Love, Death & Veggies offers a compelling visual novel experience that combines humor, emotion, and imaginative storytelling. Its vibrant art style and smooth animations bring a diverse cast of characters to life, while the well-crafted soundtrack adds depth and atmosphere. Whether you’re drawn to sci-fi romances, fantasy tales, or quirky slice-of-life narratives, this game provides an entertaining journey with moments that are both heartfelt and delightfully offbeat. It’s a worthwhile title for fans of the genre looking for something fresh and engaging. Rating: 8/10

A collection of short stories, somewhat reminiscent of Love, Death & Robots, though it’s not a parody. The main issue for me was the tone—while the art and storytelling are solid, all the stories are quite wholesome and romantic. If you were hoping for a wider range of themes or more varied emotions, this might leave you feeling disappointed. The structure is nice, but I was expecting a bit more diversity in content. Still, if you’re into light-hearted, romantic tales, this could be for you.
