To my detriment, I'm someone who struggles with crying. Not out of trying to keep up some kind of tough guy attitude or whatever, it really just feels physically difficult most of the time and my emotions fail to bubble up to that point. I've shed a few tears of joy over yuri here and there in the past, but Love Curse: Find Your Soulmate was the first time I actually ended up crying for real. Even thinking about it now, I can't help but feel a little emotional. At its core, it's probably a fairly standard otome game setup, but yuri. You guide Selene's dumb ass towards getting into a relationship with one of the four main love interests through picking which one to go on dates with and making decisions along the way. The game also saves you some trouble by literally going "just focus on one person at a time" to nudge you in the right direction, which sounds obvious but nothing should be taken for granted. Tracking the way choices affect the love interests' affection is thankfully really easy, and the same goes for their "unknown" stat (which in all cases except one lands you into the bad ending of the corresponding route). There are essentially 6 routes in the game. A "dead end" in case Selene fails to get with anyone, four corresponding to each of the love interests, and a "true ending" route that becomes available after getting a good ending with all four. Each individual good ending also unlocks an Epilogue (added as free DLC after the game's release, by the way, props to the devs for that) that goes further into how the relationship evolves afterwards, which is actually something you don't see a lot of, and I loved to see it. I only engaged with the four main routes, so that's where my thoughts are going to focus on. All four of the women Selene can end up with are complex, well-written characters. They instantly pop out as walking, talking red flags, but there's a lot to uncover beneath the surface. Selene herself is her own character, maybe a bit of a stereotypical otome protagonist, but she does have a lot of personality. Despite that, not all of the routes are made equal, I think. For one, only two of the routes fully go into the supernatural aspect of the story, in a frankly really unexpected way (and I mean it as a positive. Of all things, I definitely was not expecting [spoiler]toxic wuxia yuri[/spoiler], but it was an amazing surprise), which means the other two feel somewhat out of place by comparison, especially because they sort of make the mistake of dismissing that part of the setting in a rushed manner; this isn't to say they aren't worth experiencing however, as they're all mostly amazing stories that speak of believable (fantastical elements aside) romances, with their ups and downs portrayed in interesting and realistic ways. Even the bad endings feel worth reading, as they provide tragically beautiful conclusions to the story (even though that isn't what I look for in yuri, god knows there's way too much doomed yuri content out there) and some additional insight as well. I personally believe Nyx's route and attached Epilogue are the absolute best the story has to offer. They're beautiful and poetic in a really special way, and the route expands in the most satisfying manner on the supernatural angle of the narrative; in a sense, it feels like the most fleshed out in some aspects, to no real detriment to the other routes, but it does give the impression of being the "intended" one to go with. It's also where I actually bawled my eyes out, whereas the other routes (except one) hit quite hard and got me emotional, but not on the same level. On the opposite end, I think Victoria's route feels somewhat weak to me. She's a well-written character as well, and the emotional core is there, but some parts of the plot during the route feel somewhat unrealistic, and I personally believe it's really hard to find points of relatability during it (yes, the [spoiler]wuxia reincarnation with yandere demons[/spoiler] was still more relatable). I might just be an ass, but attempts at humanizing rich people don't really gel well with me. It is also the only route where I avoided the bad ending on purpose, since (aside from the requirements being strangely more obscure) it implied something just kinda gross going on. Another bad ending does end with even worse implications, but those implications are more acceptable to my biased brain. Art, music and writing are all great throughout. It's rare to find a game originating from China with such a high-quality localization (though admittedly some small sketchy spots were still there, but didn't detract from the experience), some of the tracks are magnificent, and the illustrations are all simply beautiful and/or cute. No male characters or creepy stuff going on either. I can't recommend this enough, even just for Nyx's route. Life is a dream. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love yuri.
