The dev is an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Don't buy his game. It appears to be abandoned anyway, so no loss.
This may become good one day, but it's far too early. The UI is really clunky, very awkward and time consuming to get anything done. Since the game is mostly about track laying, the fact that the track laying is painful is a deal breaker. But the UI is rough everywhere else too. I really hope the developer learns enough about UI design and game design over time to make this game playable, since the core idea is good, but in its current state it's just got nothing going for it.
My review still stands, this game has been left in the dust. Updates have stopped coming out and the game still looks hot garbage. This game had really good potential but they way it was carried out is just wrong. The use of free models for everything doesn't help either, same with the texturing, its not consistent with the game so some engines match the feel and other don't. I don't recommend this game, buy Railroads Online or Railroader, you will get much more fun out of those.

Honestly amazing game and amazing how much the dev cares about it. If you are looking for a game to play on your own or with friends this is it
This game is a lot of fun and the maps are huge! I got my money's worth in a few hours and am looking forward to seeing where this goes.
Alright, first off. This is a pretty great game for early access. Secondly, based on my opinion of money/time playing I'll be pretty close to my value of 1$/hr for games. And I'm not even done with making all the routes to all the industries! That ends TL:DR verson. This is not a replacement for another game, while it share similarities, (IE trains) This game is uniquely its own game. While personally I'm awaiting assignable keys as the current (at least building) controls are not as intuitive as I would like, granted that is from playing other games. There is a lot more of physics interactions with everything. Your loads can tip off your cars if going too fast, your train can derail around a corner, etc. No speed limits, just as fast as your loco can go is your limits! While I personally look forward to a lot of extra things coming to the game, I'm happy to watch its development unfold as well and just enjoy the game even in its current state. So in quick points: Pros: --Fun mechanics --Variety of things to do and drive --Massive map(s)! --Actual physics on cargo! --Dev who hangs out with players --Can be difficult --First person tycoon/management --Multiplayer! --Not complete Cons --Not the prettiest game --Rather... unique keybindings. --Can be difficult! --Not complete
Many much chooo, lots of derp
There's a solid foundation here, but it is clearly VERY far from completion. Updates are few and very far between, and of little to no substance. There hasn't been a single solid content update since I bought this back in 2022. Because of that I recommend you don't buy this until its well out of EA.
better then Railroads Online
I really want to like this game; the physics are fun and bouncy but... MY GOD the 2 maps are gigantic empty wastelands of driving in a straight line for 10 minutes at a time. I mean, when you connect cargo, it just sits on the bed or even the back of a truck, and is affected by physics, and I LOVE that.. but laying track is literally spaghetti and rotating anything is so slow that dev even has a Shift key to move slower. I put Loco off for a few years to see what would develop, but I think the music is the only thing that's changed apart from some extra engines. There still no groundwork/ballast, the bridge laying tool is still straight lines, very few trees, track laying is incredibly short segments and it's just so boring. I REALLY want to enjoy Loco: Shortline but with Railroads Online having 4 maps now, Century of Steam around the corner, Derail Valley with aim towards realism and newcomer Infinite Rails with procedural land and light terrain manipulation in only version 0.02, Joe is getting left behind. - Add a smaller map to keep new players interested (and those who have many other games to pick from). - Have you added ballast yet? (Edit: I hear Bridge tool is out in beta bracnch so will check that out & get back to you) - Make your angles actual degrees instead of arbitrary decimal numbers like -0.05. - Increase rotation speed of objects and bridge placement. These are things that should have been added a long time ago. Even with the bouncy goofy physics, Loco: Shortline is just too much unfinished for too long. :(
