In search of ETERNAL HAPPINESS
This game is really short, like very very short, but it's still good. It touches on some heavy topics: domestic violence, love, childhood innocence, loneliness, and escapism. The main heroine is written really well. You can actually feel her character. But here's the thing: there's almost no plot in the game itself. Most of the action revolves around this children's game that Mr. Voice offers us to play at the very beginning. But that's not a bad thing — this is exactly the kinda story this game is supposed to have. Overall, I think the game is nice. The art style is cool, the characters are cute, and the themes are serious, which I respect. The humor though is pure cringe. But hey, it is what it is.
played this game on my birthday during a very lonely time in my life, so i guess it stuck it's definitely more of a story experience than a videogame, even for a point-and-click it's extremely limited in gameplay. if i were to make that a positive, that makes it very replayable and an easy 100% completion. i will say that in contrast to it's predecessor, it's lighter, shorter and less ambitious of a project i liked the "children's picture book" comparison people draw when attempting to describe little misfortune's atmosphere: it's whimsical and nostalgically childish look acts as a front for it's dark themes, unlike fran bow, which is more traditionally gothic.
you will also very quickly notice that the world misfortune is in is directly tied to fran bow's. aside from the very obvious cameos near the end, they share very overlapping lore. the only real criticism i'd give, though, is the fourth wall breaking margo does with the viewer, as that never really gets expanded on. throughout the entire game the reader being acknowledged acts as a running gimmick to add more mystique rather than as a genuine plot point. margo's death was also absurd imo
the selling point are definitely the visuals, voice acting, and heartstring-pulling themes. it's a very bittersweet game that left me pining for any hints at the daughter-father dynamic misfortune and mr. voice being
at least somewhat genuine and endgame.
overall the game attempted to touch on pretty difficult themes tied to child abuse, feminism, the loss of innocence (or the lack thereof) and the unpredictable, unforgiving consequences of the choices you make in life. whether or not these were tackled well is really up to you to decide i kind of wish he'd crash out if misfortune deliberately picked every wrong option on the zoo map
"my game is the only thing keeping you alive."
Molto bello e coinvolgente. Animazione assolutamente meravigliosa
My 200th Review. I saw this on YouTube and in spite of seeing the whole thing still wanted to pick it up because it seemed such a good short story with great art. I do really like the art style really captures that children's story book vibe well, some of said content while I was less inclined to buy into the critique to begin with, playing it myself now, yes there is a slightly odd overfocus on sexuality when it's neither the point of the narrative nor plays into its end in anyway shape or form, one critique about the fart joke, I thought was just through pantyhose/long johns until I played and realised they actually slip down and it's a weird and completely frivolous detail that only detracts from a light-hearted moment to break tension. And the gross out does get a bit much, I get this little lady hasn't had a great upbringing and would eat and do things causing her to vomit....but why the cow scene? why is everything else that's "unfortunate" around her based on grossness. Sound is great, can't imagine myself listening to a track on its own but it serves the game and story well for the most part, which to me is better than the catchy jingles that capture nothing of the vibe so many project seem to aim for. But that said the story is fine, its short, it ends when it needs to, this isn't a story about everything after, this is a story about her and this game. It is genuinely sad at times, it's a nice palette cleanser, a light snack of a game with a lot of charm in between bigger monsters of games. And on sale at less then £5 is good value. Nothing about Fran Bow looks interesting to me, if this is overly edgy then that's an emo teen of a game, on top of which it took how long to get to a point? Nah, not for me, I think they tell a better story in this snapshot from what I've seen. Glad I played it for myself and supported this title, in spite of seeing it played. I played through a bit of a second run to make some alternative choices but honestly not worth it, pick what you want to and have that be your Little Misfortune story, the choices and mythological consequences aren't anything to write home about...if anything at all.
Funny interesting game for 1 time, worth 3.2 hour to pass it all
Very good game.
Шиза смешная, сортирные шутки не смешные, Неудача мили и глупи, Лис мили и глупи, но чуть чуть умни
