Lucky me has the dubious honour of writing the first review for "Lightballs".
Lightballs is a 2D minimalist air hockey ripoff (the developer says "soccer" but if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's air hockey). This feels a lot like a student project or something, the "developer" couldn't even work out how to do AI so it's local PvP only. At least there's customisable controls, and the game does actually work more or less, but that's where the good stuff ends.
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
This is the kind of game that lends itself to analog mouse control but the developer couldn't work out how to do that, so it's keyboard only. That's not really going to meet expectations for PC gamers in the year 2023.
There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics.
The game features extremely lazy, minimalist "art", of the type you normally expect to see in low effort Flash/browser games and mobile apps. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing.
Bewilderingly, the game doesn't include proper audio controls, so you can't turn off the annoying background music, you'll need to alt+tab out and stop the music using the Windows sound mixer. This is obviously not okay and it's unclear why the developers chose not to include this basic feature. To make matters worse, there's no mouse input, despite this being sold on PC as if it were a PC game. This is unacceptable and somewhat insulting to PC gamers. It's a good demonstration of the poor attitude the developer has towards PC gamers, and this attitude has resulted in yet another defect in this game.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 2 players. When I was playing this, I matched 50% of the entire concurrent player base all by myself. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from (over 9,000 completely free titles), the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
Lightballs is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.

If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
