a very nice game! also hits the spot with the *peaked already and now what* theme throughout the sentimental thread. plays fine on steam deck.

I was drawn to this by GBC-looking character art, but really it feels like an amalgamation of what might have been in vogue around 1999, a mashup of everything you remember the era looking like, with a strong sense of color. "Ex-Magical-Girls have quarter-life crises" seems to be a more and more common story conceit nowadays, and frankly it's still working for me. Bonus points for being persistently gay and only as long as it needs to be. Beware that getting the "true ending" is a little glitchy, but forgiving enough when you're on the right track that you can muddle through.

I just have to say: I can't believe this is free. The art is adorable, the characters are wonderful, the dialogue and story are well-written, there's lovely queer and trans representation. Even the music is fun and upbeat. I enjoyed this one so much that it actually inspired me to look into more free-to-play visual novels. Finished my second playthrough before typing this up and it was just as amazing the second time around. If you like magical girl stories and fluffy romance, you might like this.
