Warning: Microtransaction infested mobile app! This mobile app is not free, it's infested with a nasty mobile-style in-app cash shop. You will be expected to hand over cash to the "developers" just for playing the game.
"Legend of the Phoenix" is just one of thousands of non-free mobile apps polluting the "free" category on Steam, and it carries hidden, toxic monetization. This is a very lazily ported mobile app scam... basically a medieval Chinese dating sim for girls where you pretend to date anime dudes, own a pet cat... that's the concept, but the reality is tapping on your iPhone screen to grind towards those goals all the while being bombarded with demands to spend money in the toxic mobile app cash shop. This is a purely superficial game experience designed for iPhones. The graphics and the mechanics are bottom-tier... imagine the gaudy, cheap plastic casing on the slot machines at the casino. That's what this is, a cheap flashy veneer on a shallow non-game with one single purpose... to get your money through nasty mobile app microtransactions. Setting the greedy mobile monetization and toxic cash shop aside, this is an iPhone app, not a PC game. I didn't pay thousands for a serious gaming rig to use it like an iPhone, and you shouldn't have to either... you deserve a lot better than mobile trash. We're here for PC games. Like most mobile-tier cash grabs, you're forced to sign a highly questionable yet legally unenforceable End User License Agreement... for a lowest possible quality mobile app, this is clearly intended to strip away your consumer rights and compromise your privacy. This agreement includes questionable requirements that may attempt to revoke consumer law protections and consumer rights that gamers expect to have, which is a major red flag. Mobile "developers" need to realize they are here to serve gamers, not control them. I let my cat walk over the keys during the EULA prompt, which solved the issue for me. Next is pricing and what value this has for gamers. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB shows this peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free, that was a dismal public reception. But if you take into account the problems I bring up in this review, it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? Not on a bet. This might be "free", but I still feel like I got ripped off.
I mostly recommend this if you are playing on a phone. Otherwise it is a coin toss. Not so great that the window does not change for computers. I am not very experienced with IOS/phone games. I believe the real time mechanic is a standard feature in many phone games, which works better for games on the phone than on other devices. Like the few games I have played released first and foremost on phones, you really fly by the seat of your rear. I really wish there was in game settings so you could adjust the audio. Some of the voice acting is hilariously bad. Sometimes it is just cringe. Sometimes you just get sick of it. Within the game, there are many different kinds of currency, many windows, tabs, and all that jazz to deal with, with minimal explanation. So you probably will make some mistakes since it hard to know the value of things, especially certain kinds of currency. Also really encourages you to pay-to-win/play with micro-transactions. That is nothing new. But, if you are patient and plan to just dabble daily the game is designed for that. Not a great game to play on computer since it truly was designed to be its best when played on a phone. At least to me it isn't since it really isn't a game designed to be binged. Otherwise nice art. The sound kicks off sometimes, completely randomly. I have no idea why it does.
