This is an excelent platformer that takes you back to the NES era with some really challenging but fun levels. Gameplay feels slow at first but then you get used to it. Music and level design are great. Bosses are okay, second one beat my ass for an hour though, and I wish the final boss had a second phase or something because it is too easy. It should have a level select too because you can't replay a level when you complete it so if you want to get the achievements you have to start a new game (this sucks). Overall, great experience, I'm glad I played it and I recommend it if you like retro games or you want something similar to Shovel Knight.
Really good game!! Great old school design...
Knights of the Road is a fun retro like platformer! The shield helps a lot with some of the bosses. 9/10

English Review: For those who enjoy 8-bit style platformers, this one is a real gem. The art is very charming and detailed, the environments are quite varied, and the levels have many treasures to collect; in fact, if you like discovering secrets, this game has several hidden items to collect in every level. The bosses are challenging, but fair—it's just a matter of learning their attack patterns and where to hit to cause damage. The levels also have their slightly more challenging moments (or stressful ones, if you're a bit impatient like me—haha), but nothing absurd. It's not a very long game, but considering the price, the absence of bugs (I didn't find any in my entire playthrough and got both endings) and how fluid the gameplay is, it's well worth it. I highly recommend it!
Knights of the Road is a pretty solid puzzle platformer, but it has some quirks. The initial gameplay is somewhat reminiscent of Shovel Knight but it certainly has an identity of its own. Really smooth gameplay, good music, great 8 bit graphics, and mostly solid level design and fun bosses. This game does have a somewhat interesting design quirk with how gold is used. You pay a small amount of gold to activate the various checkpoints in the game. However, you also need gold to have access to most of the alternate abilities in the game as well as the various health upgrades. In my time playing, I paid for every checkpoint and only had enough for the 2 alt abilities you have to pay for plus 1 of the 3 health upgrades. In theory, you can sacrifice some checkpoints in order to save yourself up more money to get the various upgrades throughout the game. There's a certain risk/reward system there that I can appreciate. However, maybe it's just me personally, but I would've just preferred to have normal checkpoints and pay for the upgrades as I go through the game. You still have to get a ton of treasure chests to reasonably pay for the upgrades anyways, so it's not like you would be getting the upgrades effortlessly without the paid checkpoints. I wouldn't mind if the paid checkpoint system was some sort of challenge mode rather than being the unchangeable default. Speaking of the checkpoints, quite a few checkpoints also have a problem of having too long of a span between them and/or having checkpoints that are somewhat hidden (which just further disincentivizes skipping checkpoints for gold when there can be quite the distance between checkpoints as is). Also the last level of this game goes a bit crazy in terms of its puzzles. A lot of puzzles that are required for progression in the final level will make you feel like they're kind of clever after-the-fact, but trying to solve them initially can be very frustrating. I will note that it is a short game, being only 6 levels long. However, these levels can take quite a while, especially if you're exploring every nook and cranny (each level probably taking around 30-45 minutes each, give or take), but in the grand scheme of things is still a short game as a whole. If you miss the good ending by not getting every scroll piece or if you just want to go on some kind of challenge run playing around with skipping checkpoints for better upgrades, you may find yourself doing multiple playthroughs of this game, though I wouldn't imagine the average person playing this game wanting to play through the story more than twice (I personally only went through it once despite not getting the good ending). It is still overall a very solid game despite its quirks and I would very much recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of classic 2D sidescrolling puzzle platformers.
