I received this game for free as a play-tester. I really enjoyed Kindred [High Tide] and can't wait to go back to see the other installments in the series. I went in thinking "Oh, I'll play an ending and come back to do a few more tomorrow." and then I found myself playing all of the endings in one sitting. It was a compelling mystery and the lore drew me in!
I don't play too many visual novel games but this one is up there for me especially for the story. I usually can't be bothered to replay to get the other endings but this one is worth doing that, the storytelling really leaves you wanting to uncover more. The atmosphere and the music is on point and fits the overall vibe of the setting. I am also a big fan of the visual aspects of the game, the artwork is great and the facial expressions really matched the intended moods for each scene. Will certainly be replaying and would recommend giving the game a try.
So peak, a very intriguing mystery VN with lots of illustrations of charming hot men. Really what more could you ask for?
Victoria continues to improve in nearly every respect with each subsequent entry in her portfolio. The Kindred series started out with a small, humble entry that was laser-focused on a specific character and setting, and it just seems to be getting bigger and better. Mechanics, art assets, and characters are pushed and developed further and further. In High Tide, Victoria has included a much higher degree of player choice when it comes to the plot progression. This game play out sort of like an Ace Attorney title, and I think that the mystery/investigative elements here are super impressive coming off the back of the other two [Kindred] titles. Perhaps most impressive, though, is the developer's restraint when it comes to exploring the [Kindred] setting. Even three games deep, we are still invited to explore the Komitet and the supernatural with a cautious and carefully-growing perspective. There is no world-shattering event, no enormous lore dump to be found... at least, not yet. You will likely be replaying this game multiple times to plumb its secretive contents, and compared to the other titles in this series, I think High Tide does the best job truly enticing you to come back and dive deeper.
Super gun game! The third installation in the series, and definitely had the most quick time events and interactions which were fun and engaging. Story has a lot of layers and thought to it like the other two and gonna need multiple endings to piece everything together. Another great game from a talented solo developer!
This game rules! I almost never go back and search for new endings in games like this, but the incredible music, atmosphere, and overall storytelling sucked me in so much that I kept going back to uncover more and more.
I've enjoyed all the kindred games but this is my favorite by far. The new incorporation of fast arrow matching gameplay adds a nice mix of action/speed that balances the deeply creative and immersive plot. The stunning visuals of the high seas and intense emotion in each character's face makes each scene unique and gripping. Highly recommend the game and look forward to playing through alternate endings.
Art style? Unique and awesome. Music? Unique and awesome. Story? Unique and awesome amongst a bunch of media slop. Game? Interactive, interesting, and engaging. Writing? Detailed and beautiful. Peak.
This game was really fun! I got the good ending on my first try haha. I like the creepy mystery solving aspect of it a lot. Cool atmosphere and overall a good time! :)
The lore and mysteries of the Kindred universe are coming to a head in this installment, and this ambitious solo developer is pulling out all the stops to match. This chapter uses a non-linear structure that can play out in a whole bunch of different ways, making your choices feel more consequential than ever. It isn't just what dialogue option to choose that changes the story, but which locations you visit, and when, and in what order. I'm already planning out my next playthrough, and can't wait to see how things change. The art also continues to improve with every installment, and the character writing continues to be heartfelt and slightly heartbreaking in a way that makes the characters easy to care about. It keeps you guessing in a way that reveals more about this world of anomalies and monsters, and the Komitet organization that seeks to classify and understand them - while raising even more questions that make you want to look under every rock and probe every possible outcome for another answer. Original music and a dark, thoughtful atmosphere create an immersive experience of investigating a horrifying mystery while at the mercy of the sea. A clear labor of love with a distinct style and hand-made quality that is hard to find these days. If you enjoyed Subject 6244 and Snowbound, High Tide is pushing on the walls of what a visual novel can be in new and interesting ways that will make you want to dig through all three stories for something you might have missed. Also features a dyslexia-friendly type face option and a full Russian language translation.
