Would definitely recommend this Interactive fiction game, It is my all time favorite one, I have played dozens of these games and the writing style and the balance of the romance subplots and the main plots are unmatched. This game refuses to compromise good story telling or good romance plots. All of the characters have their own well developed stories that you can see on the romance route for them or on the best friend route if your not romancing anyone. The writing in the first game isn't quite as good as the second but both are amazing, and the third one is set to be another step above these. 100% worth the purchase.
A really great game :)
Hoo boy, did this sequel deliver and more! Everything gets turned up to ten, the writing, the characters, the friendships, the romances, the danger, the plot. All of it. Never was there a moment I deemed boring, I even enjoyed the class stuff and the exams, because there was always the potential for either some dumb student shenanigans (looking at you Altair and Thalia), some hilarious moments, or something potentially life threatening and deadly. The sheer volume of monster attacks your character has to deal with and the fact that you're suitemates cope by betting on the next one, is not only so hilarious I had to walk away for ten minutes before I could come back upon first reading that, but the fact that everyone else is severely worried (and with good reason) makes it the icing on the cake. It felt like a really good take on the MC dealing with life or death situations constantly and no one commenting on it. The characters were even more fleshed out in this one, with some serious effort into friendly bonding moments, reminding you that they're all still at uni and therefore a bunch of idiots. No one knows what they're doing at 19/20. And you really feel that in this one - whilst my character is more than willing to jump headfirst into potentially deadly situations (backed up by Thalia), I really appreciated that your suitemates can be apprehensive or just scared at facing down dangerous opponents, and that if you want, so can your character. The romances - oh boy, the romances. There isn't a single one that isn't delightful, hilarious, sweet, and well written. I've done so many I've lost track at this point, but my favourites are Leon, Cyrus and Yakov and if you play them, I'm sure you'll see why. I loved the ability to bring them to meet parents and family, adored the gentle but slow deepening of the connection between the player character and the RO, and really enjoyed the differences between each route. Add in that these RO's can also date other people when you're not on their route,
(Going with Thalia to spy on Kol's date was so damn funny I had to walk away because I couldn't breathe)
really added a sense of realism in a world with magic. Speaking of the world, we got a lot of really good world building in this one, as well as some monumental player character background information and I really enjoyed the different routes based on your parents and fantasy race. I also liked the added fantasy politics, because it made the world feel believable, even if my character was convinced that she should just kill them all.
Looking at you Blaine Castella.
This sequel was really well done, the writing, the characters, the pacing, the plot. All of it grabbed me and wouldn't let go. I am so excited for the next one and will absolutely be buying that as soon as it comes out. So yeah, big massive thumbs up for me, I cannot recommend this series more.
Continues the last chapter and makes you want more for the next
Greatly improved storytelling and character moments compared to the first book. Very exciting to discover secrets, and it feels like there's real stakes in this one. I like it a lot.
Dobra gra i emocjonalna
An amazing sequel, all of the author's writing has improved and without a doubt the scale and escalation of the series is felt all throughout the game. Stresses of saving the world, learning about magic and improving oneself, everything that you could possibly want from the setting is there and its exactly as chaotic as it sounds. Absolutely great.
You can find a full detailed review on the Choice of Games forum. Keeper of the Day and Night is a great follow-up to the first game, Keeper of the Sun and Moon. It's packed with even more drama, characters, and exciting choices as you can carry over your character from the first game to this one and continue as a sophomore at New Magi Academy. The stakes are higher and everything really builds to a satisfying dramatic ending, with plenty of character growth along the way. I highly recommend this title for anyone that's a fan of Choicescript games. It's up there with the best of them.
this game is a good sequel to the first game however it didnt feel as fluid as the first game, it felt like i was missing some of the story. saying that though i still enjoyed the game plenty and replayed it because if found the different routes worth it which i think is a huge bonus for these types of games. i would recommend this game to anyone who liked the first game, if you didnt like the first book or thought that it was just alright i would recommend not buying it.
Left a Review for the first one and discussed my biases right from the gate ill copy and paste that segment here then talk about this installation of the story as a standalone. Alright I don't do reviews often but the ones I have done have been fairly successful if we're measuring the success of a review by people finding them helpful so I like to think I give pretty suggestive reviews. That being said I will not lie to you here, I feel kind of biased towards not only this game in particular but this general style of game. I will also explain this so those of you who *do* read this understand where my rose colored glasses come from. I love books, I love comics, I love manga, I love Visual Novels. A combination of any one or two of those things ought to be enough to make you naturally the sort of person who gravitates towards a CYOA Novel. Its a format that has been explored but I don't think taken to its fullest potential, I still do not yet think its been taken its fullest extent but Choice of Games has definitely added more to the genre with their easy to use coding format prepackaged for authors to be able to use and experiment with. So lets get into why I love this particular series specifically. It takes a lot of cues from some great young adult modern fantasy novels Harry Potter being the obvious one to jump to. But it does a lot of things different and in my personal opinion much better. I will talk in this review both about the things that I felt it did good and the things that could use work but I wanted to start out by admitting my biases. End of Biases Bit The second installation of Keeper of the Sun and Moon series is excellent and outshines the first in many ways. The first very much came off as an unpolished gem but this installment sees a lot of polish. Narrative structure has improved, writing has improved, editing obviously improved as well. I've seen many of the detractors mentioning that the world of the game isn't that engaging or other similar things and I tend to disagree. The world grabbed me relatively quickly beyond the jarring beginning of the first book. Similar to HP or other 'magical school' type stories but imo this one does much better. It doesn't rely too much on being like OH LOOK THE CITY AND SCHOOL IS ALL MAGICKED UP no for the most part sometimes you can forget that your character isn't just some dude in a regular town living a regular school life and to me that is a *good* thing because when those intense action scenes come up and magical abilities start getting tossed around it pulls you back into the drivers seat and reminds you that this is not the case. In this particular installment it allows you to dive more into the political intrigues of the world and how said intrigues are relevant in some form or another to all of the main cast of the series. There are several romantic interests all that have a unique sub-plot for you to explore that begins in the first novel and continues organically into this one and even the opportunity to naturally retconn a relationship you started in the first game if you want to pursue a different one in this story and adds unique little changes to your character interactions with your ex depending on if you split amicably or not. Pros: -Good narrative structure -Expanded more on the quiet moments with characters than the previous one -More political intrigue and some more action-y stuff going on Neutral: -Some mechanics seem unfinished or unused or perhaps I simply haven't been using them right. -Could still use some more physical appearance descriptors for characters to remind us what they look like occasionally as well as more discussion of body language. Cons: -The ending feels like it comes way too soon -There are a few things that feel like they need more discussion and detail. Overall I still heavily recommend this series and if the author keeps up her roll the 3rd and final installation sounds like its gonna be a doozy. If the 3rd one doesnt add a Gisela romance option I might yeet myself into a woodchipper (this is obviously a joke, but for legal reasons thats a joke)
