Stacklands related: Yes Peaceful and a zen type of game with a balance progression: No, not on my experience at least. Did I enjoy it?: The first couple of minutes until everything went downhill fast. Food requirement went up to 2 digits and Koa had to sit in a few lagoons an entire day just to get the annoying god out of the way. Until then, it was all just punishments after punishments. I'm not having this game anymore. I'm sorry but it's not happening. I can see why people like it, It has that stacklands feel and I love that game so much, but parts where my organized things gets reshuffled and toss around everywhere becomes too much of a hassle than a feature. When there's already so much cards going about, a single tornado sweep immediately throws my peaceful run away. I didn't really expect that each punishment would be tornado after tornado. It was just nothing but tordanoes and koa losing health from it...
this is one of those "i really wish there was a mixed option". in the aftermath of CotL many games have explored the concept of combing game genres. this game is going for slay the spire meets stacklands but fails to excell in either direction. the card combat is incredbly basic and deck building is nearly non-existant, which is a must have for any card combat game. expeditions are incredibly repetitive and not very difficult. meanwhile the colony management loop is far less "colony management" and more "RNG based progression". unlike in stacklands, where there is many different directions to build the back of your economy, this game feels more progession gated. where the goal is always more food, with new buildings just being ways to make the repetitive expeditions faster or new ways to generate food. this game does have incredible presentation and clearly has a lot of work put into it, however without further support i see this game joining the many others in the "fun for a few hours and then forever forgotten" pile.
I played a fair amount of solitaire as a kid, having grown up in the stone ages. None of my card games involved the cards being alive. However, we live in the future now, so that’s possible. This is a “living card game” that has two main event loops. One of the loops is a city builder where you use and combine cards in order to make a bigger and more complex village and appease the deity that looks over your village. You don’t want to leave them hungry. Also, there’s a card battler with some branching paths of exploration. I appreciate the initial simplicity of the mechanics and the ability to make the game more complex by getting more recipes and working with the increasing complexity of your village. It’s an interesting mix of game styles that’s worth looking into.
Mal ein ganz anderes Spiel. Bringt abwechslung und macht Spass. :)
