This game has basically everything I like in a puzzle game, which is that the puzzles make you think, it's a smooth UI/experience, and it's utterly /adorable/. I've always struggled with learning katakana and hiragana so learning the kana this way combines my favourite past time (video games!) with learning Japanese (something I've never gotten around to doing). The backgrounds are a visual experience, and the music is also incredibly. I'd highly recommend if you like puzzles and want to learn kana.
Really sad to write a negative review for this because I love the concept of the game and it's visually lovely to look at. My kana skills are rusty so I thought it would be a great way to get back into the swing of things but the language learning aspect is definitely secondary to the puzzle aspect. Which would have been fine I enjoy puzzles! But sadly my progress was lost Twice, which made me lose all motivation to continue. There's a lot of potential here that I just won't be able to experience. I might revisit the game in the future and update the review, I generally only write reviews for games I complete so that the game gets a fair shot but after losing multiple worlds' worth of progress I just don't have it in me to continue.
Highly recommended for learning Japanese!
This is one super cute puzzle game! I love the music and the artwork, it's very calming and chill to play. I also started recognising some of the characters after only playing a few levels. The puzzles can be quite tricky to get gold on too, so it's very satisfying to get them perfect. Highly recommend!
The game seems like it has a good premise, but it's a bit broken and doesn't always seem to save your progress, which is annoying
Is what it says it is and does a good enough job at both things it sets out to do; be a decent enough puzzle game and teach a jump off point for learning Japanese.
It’s a decent game with beautiful pixel art.
The gameplay remains entertaining even if you already know the Kana, thanks to the engaging puzzle element. However, there’s no visible option to quit the game (other than using Alt+F4), and exiting that way doesn’t save your progress. Having to redo the same puzzles just to return to where I left off wasn’t enjoyable. The lack of an exit button and broken save system really hurt the experience, so I’m giving it a 5/10.
An excellent little puzzler and good tool to assist kana memorization
This is an aesthetically pleasing game, and a completely fine puzzle game. Teaching hiragana is secondary to the puzzles. The UI feels lacking, I don't even think there is an exit game button. I don't think you can even resize the window or choose resolutions.
