Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0/day in the week to Jul 24 → 0/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
A new sensation is spreading through my whole body... it's kind of... kind of a KAMUI FEELING!

Game old as the streets but aren't they all in this genre. Still worth it though? After a completed run the answer is a clear YES. But this game is advanced class again. If unsure and new to the genre don't start with this as this one is demanding as it requires lots of memorization and just plain good reading ability of what is going on if you intend to work towards that 1CC. It feels like there is in every level something that wants to plasma beam zap you to oblivion as you juggle with the main mechanics of the game: A weak main gun, a bullet canceling lightning attack that fires straight constantly as you reload it. Then there are enemies moving below you that you need to send missiles against. If you dont then they will later come up to your level and swarm you. Even bosses sometimes are multi-story enemies where the top is dishing ammo at you and you fire missiles on the bottom part all at the same time. With this kind of cocktail you get some of the most memorable, hectic. b*lls to the wall experience in the genre that will stick with you and it takes some 30minutes to do a run too. But it's not easy, early on you get the 'how am i supposed to manage this?' -feeling with the missiles which is of the type where you press down a button, a grid appears and automatically targets what is inside the grid. Longer you press the more it targets but at the same time your movement speed drops so pure positioning in this game is even more important than usual as you need to survive this lock-in and deliver shots with the lightning gun. So a very good game in my book. I will return back to this title some day for sure it is so crazy and memorable and price is not an issue. Visually you have the usual drawbacks again: Small screen yada yada. I could not even get fullscreen on this one so that usual stuff is there again. 8.5/10
Kamui is more or less a fangame of Rayforce, which is one of the coolest games ever made. Incredibly, Kamui also happens to be one of the coolest games ever made.
Αποκαλυψις (Apokalypsis).
That Greek noun is where we get the term Apocalypse . And when you hear either that or its adjective form what comes to mind? Perhaps the zombie apocalypse and/or post-apocalyptic genres of fiction which may also include some or all of the following:

death and destruction caused by war so numerous like never before;
scorched earth and burning skies;
natural disasters way more severe than any other time in history;
mutant organisms created from and/or for the catastrophe;
great famine with fresh and clean water also scarce;
cults and/or radical individuals rising in fame promising deliverance through them, claiming to be the way, the truth, and having the light thus conquering those who are ignorant, stupid, desperate, etc.; And finally
the end of the world as we know it?
Well if some of those you thought, then I partially agree with you. The real question is, did it at all come across your mind that there was anything apocalyptic about KAMUI? So what is to be said about that word in what it actually means associated with the list above? Apokalypsis can be translated into unveiling, disclosure, or revelation. That last is the English title of the final subdivision (“book”) of the Bible where it gets its title from. When the layman throws out that term referring to a time like that above, it is likely they might not know anything of Revelation and be instead referring to something eschatological [Εσχατος (Eschatos: last, extreme) and -λογια (-logia: the study of)] in an uninformed, sensational way with unrealistic expectation of survival. This other term is referring to the following events leading to the end of days which Revelation certainly has a lot to say about but it is more universal in that it can also refer to the eschaton according to other religions.

At first I was planning too do an all-in-one analysis of this game to be posted on Reviews. Here I would have given an interpretation of KAMUI’s theology along with the cross referencing of other works of fiction besides RayForce (1994) which is getting some mention by others. But because of the character limit and suspicion of Rules and Guidelines, the analysis will have to be moved to Discussions and possibly continued elsewhere in the future. All that I say regarding this games analysis will be highly focused on Christianity’s sacred text. For now I can only give a brief mention of the primary work of fiction that influenced KAMUI. Although there are other works of fiction that also can be found in KAMUI its actual main influence is from another Apocalyptic work of fiction being
Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) and its finale movie, The End of Evangelion (1997). The legacy of Evangelion has left such a mark on the industry though not in the way its director Hideaki Anno wished for.
Thanks to his work, more Japanese fiction in the form of manga, video games, and other anime took much influence, many in a disgruntling way. This I can very much agree with however there are certainly few exceptions KAMUI being one of them. Along with the other works, their theologies adapted into KAMUI will also be examined which may sound like focus is diverted to them but in the end it will make sense.

Forced to shorten what I had wrote down Here I will be saying what I could about KAMUI trying to make it sound mostly like an actual review except I have included terms that will be seen again in the analysis so when needed, refer to here. Two KAMUIs are playable, the one according to the story which I will refer to as “Panaffil” and the Mass Production Model encountered in the latter half of the game, unlocked by completing the game in all three difficulties, and which I will refer to as the “MP”. Three weapons are equipped on both, each with notable differences. First is the standard, unlimited, full automatic firing, only upgradable weapon done by collecting green POWER UPs and downgradable by losing a life. MP’s shoots more rapidly but remains firing only vertical where as Panaffil’s eventually produces diagonals but is still concentrated straight. The second is that which everyone who is familiar with RayForce probably made the first comparison with KAMUI to and which I will refer to as “FIRE”. Both games have two planes of attack, the top being where you always are as well as where your first and KAMUI’s third weapon hit. Then there is the lower plane where this homing weapon goes. The three most significant differences of RayForce’s lower plane attack is that you have to place the reticle on your intended target and you start off with a quantity of five with a maximum of eight by collecting laser power ups. KAMUI’s version produces a large reticle on the entire screen followed by a small one on each chosen target when discharged, selection depends on where player is positioned, and depending on how much charged it is will determine how many bolts discharge at once multiplying the score you receive from destroyed targets. The issue I have with this though is the amount of points that FIRE gets compared to the others has a huge difference. How the two differ is that Panaffil’s multipliers maximum is X16 and MP’s is X12. And finally the third weapon which is not present in RayForce and is officially called Lightning Katana assuming that name refers only to the one Panaffil has. Both I will refer to as “SWORD”. Like the other entries of the trilogy, there are methods for guarding most enemy attacks and this is KAMUI’s. But as you play you would realize SWORD’s use is more offense emphasized for Panaffil and defense for MP, both with a lightning splash effect similar to FIRE but on the upper plane when using SWORD against some enemy attacks that can be guarded. Both FIRE and SWORD have limited use measured in the LIGHTNING bar on the bottom left of the screen. This bar has two measurements moving contrary to each other. From the left and colored green is the charge level of FIRE which empties upon use, constantly recharges, and that recharge can be sped up by preparing to launch FIRE but can not be canceled forcing it to be in your next attack. Opposite is red colored heat level of SWORD which cools down from max heat faster than FIRE fully recharges slowly. Both of these move against each other meaning if FIRE’s charge level is full but you use only SWORD the bar from right to left will turn red depleting FIRE’s charge making the player have to think economically or use both simultaneously.

There are unlimited continues with SCORE reset. You are given three lives with different amounts of SHIELDs. Panaffil X4, MP X2. Both can be maxed to X8 although I have never attained this because there is an imbalance of POWER Ups than SHIELDs where if you exceed the former you get a trivial 10k points. When losing a SHIELD it is easy to spot with Panaffil but hard to with MP. RayForce implied that it is a one player game but is two, at first I thought it was wrong to make KAMUI only one with how I applied Revelation but turns out I was in error unable to explain here.

Although it is not a complete foundation, I hope that this was sufficient in getting this game to be viewed in another way. As for continuing a stand alone review, I will probably not make extension for what I couldn’t say because the real interest should be on what I have to say in relation to the aforementioned above. I had wished to finish all of it before this Autumn but couldn’t due to the complexity of the subjects along with the difficulty of composing. For now I have to start with this but it shouldn’t be too long when I post about the games parts one by one so stay tuned because they will eventually come but for now
Happy Feast of Trumpets (Yom Teruah) 2024.
KAMUI is basically Taito's Rayforce, but combined with ChoRenSha 68k and other similar early bullet hell titles - faster-paced, more manic and with more, game-altering resources to manage. The big gimmick that distuinguishes it from either of its predecessors is the huge frickin' laser beam that you can use both as an offensive and as a defensive tool. Don't go in thinking that you'll 1CC the game in your first try just because of this almighty bullet-wiping beast of a weapon, though: using it slows you down, it's on a cooldown timer that seems incredibly short at first but WILL bite you in the ass in later stages, and has an incredibly narrow area of effect that extends to the bottom of your ship but not its sides, so you better learn how to dodge and misdirect enemy shots if you want to survive the game's five stages. The boss battles are KAMUI's highlights and the major progression walls you will face when striving for a 1CC, requiring a fair amount of memorization and skillful dodging of thick, but not screen-filling bullet patterns through classic shmup maneuvers (streaming, micrododging, short misdirection) if one wants to emerge unscathed from them - which is essential for survival due to how stingy the game is with HP recovery item drops, despite first impressions (there are no life extends available either!). Presentation-wise, KAMUI is gorgeous for 1999 doujinsoft standards - certainly more impressive than the first few Windows Touhou games, which, may I remind you, started coming out a whole three years after this game's release -, but all of its graphical tricks and setpieces are pulled almost directly from Rayforce, with the exception of the boss battles - which is one more reason for why they are so incredibly memorable. The soundtrack however is wholly original, opting for a more cinematic flair akin to Radiant Silvergun and Sokyuugurentai's (within the limitations of fairly standard MIDI instruments), and very very memorable. Overall, KAMUI gets a STRONG RECCOMMEND from the STG Skunk! Personal Challenge Level: Medium-Hard Time dedicated: 40 hrs Winning Run Score: 12,432,070 Personal Best Score: 13,795,640
Kamui. ALLTYNEX Second. RefleX. The history of both this game and its two counterparts, together forming a sublimely-crafted trilogy of JP shooters, is fascinating. I wonder what Siter Skain, the original JP indie team responsible for developing these in the late 90s, are up to now. Lots of comparisons to Rayforce and Layer Section, and that is understandable - just look at the ship, even. But the reason I like this game is that it took me right back to Soukyugurentai (or Terra Diver for some of you). That game became one of my favourite STG games and I think Kamui is actually closer to this in terms of cinematic presentation, music and satisfying explosion SFX. It is tight and a glimpse into an era of top-tier Japanese style shooters. They don't make them like this anymore. For anyone confused about the order in which to play the trilogy, for learning curve you can go Kamui > RefleX > ALLTYNEX Second (Kamui is the hardest to master and the others have a higher level of polish). This is the order in which they were chronologically developed, with Kamui being 1999. Reverse this order if you actually wish to experience the story in chronological order. ALLTYNEX is first in this regard. That is because it is technically a remake of the original ALLTYNEX released in 1997. Confused? For a while I was, too. The game shows its teeth by stage 3 and is out to to slap the yellow off your teeth, but it's a doable 1cc with some practice. Once you get past the initial 'what was I supposed to do about that BS?' and 'no idea what is going on here' thoughts, you'll be okay. You will. Because the game is so good it just tempts you right back into an abusive relationship you just can't escape, where a symphony of violence awaits you alongside much pleasure. One of the PC's greatest.
